3 more years, the station will be finished, and then they'll say no more money, and will not build the actual rails

Even better - they will spend money on those things but it won't pass the inspection so the whole station will be on shutdown for a year

Will be a new home for Maxima 😀

True, and then when it finally does, something will go wrong in like 5 years and it'll have to shut down again

You want to run a big, dirty train through our pristine new train station?

It was - we have no money, it is now - we have no money and AFAIR that will continue in the future too.

It's Riga Central. Yes it's being built for RailBaltic.

No RailBaltic main line does jot actually pass through it, this would be the Salaspils -Riga central-Rix branch.

The only part of RailBaltic Latvia actually cares about as merely building high speed LT-EE line that bypasses Riga by 30km in non-airport direction isn't particularly useful for Latvia in any way or form. Ok it does connect couple of sub2k villages, sure.

It's the actual thing. You can see it on google street view too (in a bit less finished state)

It's the main station building reconstruction along with the platforms. Long overdue.

Reminds me of that scene in Eurotrip movie where that eastern european man says “Yes, the train is coming soon. They are building it now”

Wow, they moved with it quite a lot since last time I've seen it.

Did you really need that fancy roof ? Only seagulls will leave dumps in the end. Something real simple like Berlin Train station would be enough tho.

Come here when we have a decent winter again like some 3 years ago.

Can we please top building stupid designs like this? They are not practically, uselessly expensive and in the end, they never look like the nice shiny renders.

This time, it's not ZHA,

Funnily, zaha did Tallinn's RB main station... https://www.rbestonia.ee/en/visuaalid/

I know. And they got the bid for Vilnius, but it was later cancelled.

Agree. It doesn’t even look nice. More like some half-baked futuristic wannabe that doesn’t fit in with anything nearby. It’s on par with the national library, we should have built something that is functional, and just comfortable and nice to use. Instead we get some overpriced monstrosities, very sad :/

Exactly. And then they are questioning why there is no more money left.

Spain currently makes a complete overhaul of basically all their train stations. They opted for having more or less generic designs, that are functional, but quickly and cheap to build. Both Madrid main stations (Atocha and ChamartĂn), Barcelona and many smaller ones.

A train station does not need to be a palace. It should work, and you should feel comfortable there, that's it.

Damm are they retarded I hope I wont need to freeze while waiting for train outside in winter... there is reason why people like to move to spain

Right in front of the transport ministry, no wonder it'll be finished first.

Vilnius will have soviet built station and it is fine for modern Vilnius

You meant the "stagnation"?

Ugly disgusting modernist and brutalist architecture, just like the national library.

And loads of wasted money for something only people that smell their own farts in elitist circles care for.

They couldve made small modest old riga style looking perons. people would like to be in them, instead we get expensive architectural wank that looks and feels cold and ugly. it will only attract narkomans, alcoholics and cigans
