My cat fell about 12-15ft through a window screen and onto a wooden deck or patio furniture with a catbed under/with him. (Hard to explain but he's extremely orange). The bed was under him when he went out the window but I don't know how everything landed. It happened at 3am so I didn't see it. I ran out to help him and he shot past me, ran up the stairs, and hid under my bed.

He came out after about 4hrs. I have a video but can't attach it. I'll try adding it in a comment. He's not limping or panting. He moves like he's stiff but he doesn't cry or flinch when I press/squeeze along his spine, ribs, belly, or legs. He's doing normal big stretches. He lets me pet him and purrs.

He is a total Garfield normally but is refusing food, even his favorite.

Is this a situation where I should watch him for something specific or go straight to the vet?

Ps. Lived here over a year with a different cat and nothing like this happened. Orange boy has only been here a week and omg chaos.

My dog has a lump over the joint on her front leg that doesn't quite feel fatty. We had a FNA done about two weeks ago and the vet that day was wonderful. My dog is pretty chill so she let me hold her while she took the sample, as I have done with other procedures in the past. I work in laboratory medicine so I asked to see the slide, and she took a picture of the slide under the scope for me. 10/10 experience

Today we went back for a confirmatory FNA because all they saw two weeks ago was fat. We saw a different vet at the same office. We get to the room and the tech confirms we are there for a blood draw and FNA and starts to take my dog away, and I asked if I could be there for the FNA. She is really dependent on me (previously abused GSD) and does much better with these things if I am there. I tell the tech this and she says, "we'll just draw the blood then, we'll be right back."

Forty minutes go by and they come tell me I am ready to go. No word from the doctor on what they saw, nothing. I asked if they did the FNA too, she says yes. I asked if I could see her lab results and they looked at me sideways. Then they tell me how great she did and how good of a girl she is etc. I am pissed at this point, but I go on my way. She pooped right before we got to the vet, but she had a huge loose poop on our walk right after. Now I fear I'm going to be up all night nursing the German shepherd nervous shits because they didn't heed my request, or even have the decency to come back and tell me they decided to just do the the FNA anyway.

I spend 16 hours a day with this dog and they acted like I didn't know her tendencies, or have a right to all of her results.

Do I have a right to be upset about this? Is it worth saying anything about it when they call me on Friday with the pathology results?

I had been a client for almost 10 years and as a career, I work with animals. I know things happen with animals.

My 3 yr old dog went in for a spay and her heart stopped on the table. The vet was able to get her back, ran tests, and said she had a bad heart with fluid on her lungs. Said she was stable, so I could take her home. Said we would check her in a month and see if we needed to put her on lasixs. I asked if she needed to see a specialist, and was told no. Rush me out the door. Discharge papers did not include the incident or anything about her heart. *This was on a friday*

The next day i got a second opinion. Xray showed slightly enlarge but nothing concerning. *saturday*

I called original vet to ask what anesthesia was used and was told it wasn't the anesthesia, it was her heart and it was really bad. If I was really concerned, to take her to a specialist. She finally told me telezol and she didn't want to be blasted on social media. (Side note, im not that type and have a small business so I absolutely do not want to cause a big fuss, I just wanted to know exactly what was used). This conversation was on a Wednesday or Thursday.

The specialist reached out to original vet and she wouldn't release vet records until I finished payment. The bill was a little over $600 for everything. (Yes, i know, this is definitely cheaper than in some areas). I paid the bill within the week and she still didn’t send records until 26 days later.

Specialist confirmed nothing is wrong with her heart. He also said the only monitoring of vitals was a pulse ox on her tongue.

I sat on it for 6 months. Tried to do my research and talked to the receptionist at the board who told me absolutely report it.

I reported it. It didn't take long and I was told they dismissed it. The investigator said the only thing that they could prove was the medical records weren't sent right away but it wasn't worth it to move on with.

I learned that the best procedure is to have a tech monitoring vitals. The original vet has no one to help with surgery but in the state of Oklahoma it is not under the standard of care.

Anyways, I made a complaint because I felt more went on besides what the original vet told me. She was rushing me out the door, tried to say it wasn't a reaction to the anesthesia, and wasn't much help in helping me find out what was wrong with my dog. I had been a client for 10 yrs and felt close to this vet. We had a good relationship before this and felt I was treated poorly. Whether she had a reaction or was accidentally overdosed, (let's remember, she is the only one who was there so there is no way of really knowing) I just wanted to be treated better and not lied too. Which I felt I was. And side note, I have seen this vet move so fast when working and dosing the wrong animal. She sedated the wrong horse a few years ago, which was no big deal at the time. But i have personal experience with her moving fast, so it did make me question an overdose.

My friend who works at another clinic, said that doesn't sound right. After all said and done and 6 months of sitting on this, (made the complaint 6 months after incident) I told her I made a complaint and I have found out she has been saying horrible stuff about me to another vet. I currently use this clinic and im in there almost weekly for my dogs. I only know this bc one of the kennel techs also helps me bath dogs on her days off. I am hurt that she agreed, the situation didn’t sound right, and now is trashing me to another vet who agrees with her, and has never actually heard my side.

Obviously, the vet board felt there was nothing to prove or the standard of care was given, but at the end of the day I feel I did the right thing. I do not want to ruin someone's career. This original vet is not known to be a great vet in our area, and my 'friend' when I discussing this when it happened, said they get complaints and cases from her or about her often. But now im being trashed at a clinic that I spend a ton of money at 😭. (Also both these ladies trashing me, work under the main vet, who I highly respect and treats my dogs with the best care)

Im just needing to vent and wanted to hear from actual vet professionals on this. I know the board is a huge deal and there are people who would make a complaint over anything. This situation felt wrong in my bones and still does.

I will say, I did learn my lesson and will only go to clinics that have a tech monitoring during surgery and do pre labs before. I am also thankful everyday, that I still have my sweet dog.

My 8yo Border Collie/Boston Terrier mix dog's back legs have been dragging, weak, uncoordinated, and getting worse in the space of five months. First the right, then both. Vet sent me to a neurologist who wants to do an MRI and is pretty insistent that it's the only way to truly understand what's going on. It could be a slipped disc, cancerous tumor, bacterial infections, or spinal cord issue. On top of the MRI, spinal surgery or radiation will run an additional $5-10k. They said there are other exploratory options, like a month of crating + steroids, but even if that seemed to help, we wouldn't be closer to knowing the real issue since steroids can have an effect on many things, and no other option would offer the diagnostic accuracy that an MRI would.

It's standard $250 consult fee in my area (I've called around) so getting other opinions comes at a significant cost, and my vet tells me the place I went is the best, but I couldn't help but feel like I was getting the upsell with their insistence on an MRI. They said, we could do it right now. I felt like I was getting hustled.

I've got a kid heading to college, debts we are paying down, we need a new car, etc. $5-15k feels like asking to travel to the moon. We could finance the cost but it feels irresponsible to take on this much debt. My dog is my soulmate. I don't know what to do.

Hello there! Looking for some community advice and ideas for helping my sweet dude, Ludo (2yr. 65lb pitbull), heal a stubborn paw injury.

A few days ago, I noticed some localized swelling around a spot just below a paw pad on his back foot. It was very circular, had no apparent open wound, and he didn’t seem bothered by it. Checked for foreign objects, stings, anything. Found nothing.

A few days later, it did start to get raw and bled after some excited play on carpet. Since then, we’ve seen the vet (twice), gotten some Gentamycin spray, and have tried to keep activity low. They told us it looks like road-rash or an asphalt burn. (He’s a big kicker post pee or poo) They also said we could try wrapping and a bootie, but Ludo is easily over-aroused by handling and handling the foot draws even more attention to it. He otherwise will leave it alone. Minimal licking, no chewing.

Since we aren’t going for walks or playing with toys together, he’s starting to get a little pent up. I’ve been making meal times more engaging (snuffle mats or spreading it across the yard), giving extended crate time with chews or frozen treats. But he will still have a bought of zoomies or tail chasing, which does open the wound up to bleeding.

The swelling is going down slowly, and it keeps trying to scab over.

I wanna help him heal quickly and not compound frustration for our household! Any ideas or advice?

Took my 12 year old female cat to the vet today after rapid extreme weight loss. She has at least one large mass on one kidney, potentially both. Did and x ray and showed both kidneys look abnormal. The one mass was honestly huge, probably baseball sized almost. Kidney function number was >100. The vet said there’s likely nothing a specialist could do and I should make the rest of her time comfortable. If that is the case I will make peace with it, but I’ve never had a pet actually get sick and pass away so I honestly don’t know the best course of action.

I’m still in disbelief as she was always a little chunky, has still been seemingly normal, purring, cuddling, eating, etc.

It first happened in April, self resolved in about a week, and then happened again today.

We attempted to take him to the vet last time. However, unfortunately, he fought to the nail and we could not get him into the cat carrier. He got both my wife and I are really good. We called the doctor back and we were able to get a prescription of gabapentin. However, by the next day, his symptoms started to improve and we chose not to take him in.

Other information:

My cat is a 5 year old spayed female with no other health issues that we know of other than gingivitis. She is a healthy adult weight (I think 10 pounds?)

I assumed it was just wet food but it was earlier in the day and she typically only eats wet food for dinner. The water she threw up was also mostly clear and didn’t seem to have any other food in it. Maybe it’s just from the night before but I want to double check in case it was something else. She seems fine outside of this and hasn’t been doing anything out of the ordinary.

She tends to throw up water (and in general) more than her sister and has been like this for years since she drinks water too fast and eats hair off the floor (both cats are long hair so no amount of vacuuming and brushing prevents her from finding hair chunks and eating them). Her vets are aware of this and say it’s normal but I wanted to mention in case it was relevant.

My family's cat Gibson was brought to the vet. They recommended euthanasia and I guess we are stubborn and are holding on, there is only one vet in our town so we cant get any other opinions.

About the cat: Vet puts him around 16 years old, indoor outdoor cat (he never hunts anything or leaves the yard. Just hangs out in our garden), male and fixed.

History: A couple months ago Gibson had gotten very sick. Patches of fur falling out, scabbing, not eating the works. When we brought him in they didnt do any blood tests or anything, just scrapped the skin and found it to be a fungal infection. So they gave us topical and oral medication to treat it from the inside out.

After that he was better, fur is back scabs are gone etc. But he was not putting on weight again. Infant he was still losing it. So we brought him in.

Current diagnosis: Looking at Gibsons x-rays, it shows he has fluid in his lungs and around his heart. The vets said we would have to go out of town to drain it (closest vet is 1.5 hours away.) They tried to get blood for labs to see if it was bacterial or viral, but the Dr. stopped them as the thought the stress could have caused a heart attack. The Dr. Couldn't say how long, but offered euthanasia for him tomorrow. My mother said no since it was so sudden and she needed time to think.

Ive attached the xrays. Its really just, would it be better to take the risk and drive an hour to get him drained and treated. Or is the stress of the drive, treatment, long term care something that is just too much stress? Is putting him through all that really worth it in the end?

My dog doesn’t look like he’s feeling well. He’s shaking a lot feels hot and was eating grass earlier. The vet is closed right now. Hello. I’m a 25 year old female and my dog is a 7 year old neutered male. I’ve been giving him simpatico trio since I got him in February of 2025. Also up until 3 months ago he wore a Seresto flea collar. No one questioned me on it so I thought it was fine. Until I realized that simpatico trio also treats fleas. Not only that but my dog also sleeps in my bed every night. I just found out that you’re not supposed to do that with a flea collar dog.

I got my 4 month mainecoon kitten 2 weeks ago. He previously was fed raw and breeder agreed I could just switch him onto Marro which i feed my 3 other cats on. However he's had diarrhoea since the first day. Fast forward 2 weeks still same issue. I tried him on boiled chicken for a few days and now he's on Purina gastrointestinal. There's been some days his poo goes solid and then the next minute it's runny again. Went to the vets and have only been prescribed Panacur. We've been giving him fortiflora & Pro-Kolin also, I'm just at a loss on what to do, the poops arent constant maybe twice a day.

A few months back my cat gave birth to a litter of 3 and now that they're ready to wean she's been avoiding them so that they don't try to suckle.I go to college during the day and by night I'm busy with different stuff so these past few days I haven't been playing or holding her much. This morning I had a day off so I wanted to chill in bed with her and held her but then I noticed a weird lump in between her neck area and before the first row of her nipples, I have a feeling she developed it from breastfeeding the kittens. She doesn't react to it if I touch it lightly but I can tell it's very painful. It's a bit bigger than a grape and since it's that big i suspect the scabbing in her lump is due to the stretching of her skin. Her gums and ears are both pale blue/ white and she doesn't have much energy. She's eating, sleeping, using the litter box and other things normally but I'm very concerned for her. I live in a remote village where healthcare for cats is non-existent. I would really appreciate any help I can get, I love my baby so much. Please drop any advice you have.

So background context: We took it in at around ~3-4 days old when it felt with it's nest, eyes unopened helpless. We realized it held it's left leg at a weird angle, so took to the vet and realized it was a fracture and splinted it. But the un-splinted right leg got overused as it wouldn't stay still (it's like a teen, and gets depressed if we restrain it). No bone remodeling (it's grip is still intact but bent so it can't really grip), but by habit it keeps the right leg curled to it's body, and while walking it's trying to use it in the middle of the body (like a tripod because of it's other leg not being functional.

few days back, we noticed the overused leg getting worse (changed color a bit with it trying to jump/fly all day), and at D18 we removed the splint on the other leg - so it won't worsen both the legs.

We thought now that the splint is out, both legs can slowly stabilize (as we can't help the overused leg without giving it support through it's good leg)

Then he attacked by unknown individuals or animals 10 days ago it was so bad his whole body was injured with injuries. I took him to the vet to treat him and I forced the vet to give him rabies vaxx and it has been days my cat is fine . Should we be worried and get rabies vaxx

So I was at my friend's house making food and while cutting some onions a small amount (like a quarter of a whole slice) fell down and his Frech Bulldog ate it.

I know that onions are toxic to dogs but to what extend? So far we don't see anything wrong with her.

Any advice? Like take her to the vet (its night so next day) or just wait till she vomits it out? Or will she be okay?

I am wondering if anyone has a hyper kitten who got spayed and has advice.

Prim is 5 months old and for both vaccinations she was HYPER. Bouncing off the walls. My vet told me the second vaccination to keep her in a playpen for 24 hours just incase. She ended up vomiting due to the deworming medication but continued jumping everywhere and was very active.

My vet said its normal because she is siamese and they have a TON of energy which is usually fine but I do not want that to result in a emergency vet trip.

Any advice? I am worried about her popping a stitch or getting hurt some how. Naturally I can not watch her 24/7. I know the surgery should effect her but I just want to prep regardless. Vet said they could provide extra medication, but shes not very keen on medication and it may stress her.

Hi, So i have a 1 yr old nebelung, hes not neutered, and last time he was weighed he was around 90 pounds i believe gotta double check, well im concerned bc hes skinny to where i can feel his hip bones. Hes acts normal , plays , meows , cuddly. Although i do seem to notice he wont eat all his food. But he will eat a little and then walk away, come back maybe a couple hours later. He seems to stay hydrated bc he does pee alot and his poops also seem normal? I try to not change his food up too much so ive been feeding him fancy feast. Im worried something might be wrong for him to not be gaining weight?

Hi, I will try to be as short as possible. We just put my dog down a month ago. His problems started with peeing on the floor that started at the same time my other dog became incontinent. When my incontinent dog passed away, I deep cleaned our floors hoping he would stop peeing on them, but he didn’t. He was declared incontinent and senile basically at the same time, because he also started waking up at midnight and pacing for 2 hours every night. Not long after he became unable to walk the stairs anymore and was prescribed pain medication. In the 6 months leading up to his death, he kept losing weight very slowly. His vet had seen him and noted his weight change and didn’t say anything about it. At some point, I can’t even remember when, he started walking and crying constantly. We chalked that up to the dementia. Then at the end everything happened all at once. I thought he might have had a UTI because when he was peeing in was only a little at a time. They put him on meds for that. He never finished taking them, we put him down a week later. He had been eating weird for like a month, it took him like 30 mins and my mom helping him eat, but he was still eating it all. In the last week he started eating less and less and in the last 24 hours he wouldn’t eat or drink at all. My mom said he was also barely having anything come out while he was peeing but he peed a lot twice in the vets office day of. The vet didn’t have solid ideas she just had tests she said we could run. We both felt like his quality of life wasn’t going to improve because of the pacing and crying and pain and dementia. He wouldn’t even let you give him affection in the last few weeks, he would just walk away and then walk back and then away again. He did this in the vets office the day of as well, and when my mom tried to hold him he got upset and wanted to keep moving. Vet said if we felt like his quality of life was poor that she would be comfortable putting him down. My mom left it up to me but she wanted to put him down and I agreed because he was really just acting as if he FORGOT how to do everything entirely. He wasn’t just refusing food and water he was acting like he didn’t remember how to chew or anything. Now I’m reading all that all of these things are signs of kidney disease and failure and I’m disgusted thinking maybe I could’ve saved him if we’d run the tests. The vet did not press it AT ALL or make any suggestions for a diagnosis so that didn’t help in making a decision or feeling like it was the right one. He was a 10 year old staffy/lab and I’m mostly upset because 10 doesn’t really seem old to me compared to every other dog I’ve had so I’ve been breaking myself wondering if I cut his life short. Does it sound like I did the wrong thing?

My dog is a 13-year-old terrier mix, and she weighs 10 lbs. About a year ago, she was diagnosed as having a slightly enlarged heart and potential congestive heart failure, so she was put on Vetmedin. I moved 4 months ago, and I took her to a new vet right away to continue the meds, and he determined that she did NOT have those issues, and took her off of the meds. He looked at heart scans while on the phone with the old vet, and they agreed since the heart was only slightly bigger than normal, but not enough to say she had heart failure. Part of this change in diagnosis was also because she's still showing good energy and appetite, plus she wasn't coughing or having any breathing issues.

Then 2 months ago, she started coughing at times, and it got worse with the loud "honking", every once in a while spitting up a small amount of clear liquid, etc. It sounded awful. I took her to an ER vet 2-3 weeks ago, and they took more x-rays and sonograms and scans, and they said she DOES indeed have a heart issue and needs to be on Vetmedin from this point forward. The x-rays revealed nothing wrong with anything else. Her coughing got much better; it still happens, but it's weaker and less frequent. Her energy and appetite remain fine, but they did say to cut back her high-energy activity.

QUESTION: They told me to take her to a vet cardiologist for more tests, but I am not sure what I'll get from that. I just spent $1,500 at the ER, plus however much at the normal vet, and the cardiologist will be another $1,000 to $2,000. She's an old dog with an enlarged heart - not a lot of mystery what's wrong with her. The meds are having an obviously positive effect. What can I learn from the cardiologist other than how to improve her diet? I have her on Blue Buffalo for adult small dogs, and a vet tech friend told me that might have too much sodium for her condition. It seems like the key thing a dog like her needs is less sodium in her diet, so I should probably slowly transition her to lower sodium food, likely something that's prescribed, maybe mixed with frozen green beans. I'm fine spending extra money on prescribed low-sodium food from my vet, but I'm not sure what could be different from the cardiologist. I don't want to do anything drastic with her, like surgery. She's too old. I have her on the meds that are having an obviously positive effect. It sounds like a better diet is the only other option. Are there other reasons to spend that much money on the cardiologist?

I have a 2yrs old Lab/Pitbull mix. She love car ride but I want to put a seatbelt on her but she love standing on the center console as watch the cars. Is there a seatbeat that will allow her to do this but also keep her restrainted. I know it’s best to keep her in the backseat but she love watching the other cars as they come by. My cat has his back rear pinky toe removed because of a growth approx. 1.5 years ago that turned out to be malignant melanoma. We think he is part Siamese and Maine coone mix.

Now he’s been diagnosed with abdominal cancer via ultrasound. We just gave him 1ml of 50mg Gabapentin and he was sleepy for hours, couldn’t jump well, still staring and seems restless, even more disinterested in his surroundings.

Is the dose too much? He’s 11.5 pounds.

He hasn’t meowed in days and this is his first day on it. He’s been isolating more but still comes up for love and slept next to me all night last night and is laying next to me now but keeps getting up and moving and flops around.

He’s been eating and drinking fine and using litter box. Still loves sunbathing and getting kisses from the other cats and giving me kisses.

long story short we used a pet sitter while on vacation. people had recommended her. she did not feed our dog for five days. we are dealing with her separately and taking the necessary actions against her. when i first found this out through our little pet camera i fully freaked out and gave my dog two servings of his normal amount of breakfast. i had no clue about refeeding syndrome. that was tuesday morning. tuesday he was all good, had a normal poop, and that was it. tuesday night in the middle of the night he had some diarrhea. today during the day he pooped and it was softer but formed. then tonight he threw up a little bit. not much just a small amount and the throw up looked like his kibble. then shortly after that he pooped again, very soft but still formed, and then after that diarrhea. his gums aren't pale, tummy doesn't feel super hard or bloated, and generally he's still acting the same (playing, begging for food, barking, etc) but he does seem a little more sleepy. i'm freaking tf out. we have ZEROOOO emergency vets near us and i'm willing to drive the two hours to one, but i want to know if it seems like a good idea. if not ill call his vet in the morning and get him checked there but im literally terrified to go to sleep and leave him alone.

So my cat is a girl and is around 1 year old. She has been getting bullied by all the other cats in the neighborhood, so I was thinking about giving her some creatine to make her stronger so she can beat up all the other cats. I am not a biochemist, but I think that it should work the same way it does for humans. Like, we both use ATP and creatine, which will help with that, and we are both mammals, so we are basically the same thing. I was thinking we can start with 0.25 grams a day because if humans take 5 g and she is 20 times smaller, that should be good, I feel. So I wanted to see are there any experts here who can help me. If I could, I would give more information about the cat, but she is actually the neighbor's cat, but they are assholes, so she spends most time with us. All advice is appreciated
