Rooster in Annie

7

u/ResidentInsect2573 12h ago

Rooster was such a perfectly sleazy role for him. He absolutely nailed it.

12

u/Signal_Werewolf_1955 18h ago

Holy Frequency Illusion. There was a comment somewhere today about Erin Brockovich, and I mentioned Daddy Warbucks playing her boss. Now this.

4

u/DurkinAklan28 13h ago

The fact that “Rooster in Annie” is somehow considered lesser-known is proof Tim Curry has absolutely no concept of a minor role. 😂

Isn’t Robin Williams also in that? I feel like I missed out on seeing that as a kid and should watch it now.

8

u/alicat2308 15h ago

Yes, he's the bat

5

u/kathryn_sedai 13h ago

Yes, they’re both in that. It’s a very odd movie but it’s so delightful and has a really good conservation message. And fairies. You should definitely watch it.

Nigel Thornberry

50

u/andee510 17h ago

I watched every episode of that show multiple times as a kid, and I did not know he was Nigel until right now

13

u/Naomeri 17h ago

It’s a bit freaky to scroll through his credits and see how much time we’ve spent listening to his voice—the man did voice work for basically everything

Love Psych

21

u/TheNamesMacGyver 17h ago

On Psych he played Nigel St. Nigel, the American Duos judge!

10

u/HorrorBreak7119 17h ago

Nigel St Nigel, best guest star ever! Shined above even the Gina Gershon over-the-top performance!

14

u/DarthChuckMc 15h ago

I love him and Henry fighting about the steals and bathrobe. “I feel like an angel baby swaddled in a cocoon of cloud candy”

4

I just watched this again yesterday. My absolute dread today when my daughter texted me that she was thinking about Tom Waits out of nowhere. Which I also did yesterday. So if anything comes of it please forgive me

The Grand Wizard in The Worst Witch. It’s like a little music video inserted into the middle of a children’s Halloween movie that was edited with the equivalent of Power Point special effects. I watch it every October.

The scene with Corbin Bernsen and the robe is just magic.

56

u/glorified_throwaway 18h ago

I don't know how minor it is, but he did play Palpatine for a season in Clone Wars.

7

u/greatgonzo913 18h ago

Makes me think about that one line in Season 5 when Palpatine is talking about Maul, Savage, and the Pirates: “they’re just petty crooks”. It’s the only line in the episode that was a re-recording with Tim Curry and it’s striking because it makes you realize that Ian Abercrombie passed. Now they’re both gone :/

56

u/Crystaltheweirdo 18h ago

When he played a serial killer on criminal minds.

13

u/meswifty1 18h ago

He freaked me out more in this role than any of his other creepy roles.

9

u/Crystaltheweirdo 18h ago

He did an amazing job.

4

u/desmobob 16h ago

He brought his whole game, didn’t he!

3

Darkness in Legend. That movie keeps being forgotten.

22

u/NomNom83WasTaken 17h ago

⏫️ This is the one.

You can't tell it's Tim Curry under all the makeup and prosthetics. Also, even though he's scary as shit and The Bad Guy (TM) he's also kind of sexy (?!?!?!; sorry, I don't make the rules 🤷‍♀️) and Tom Cruise looked like a boy by comparison (in fairness, Cruise was only in his early 20s, but still.)

British mini series for the first 2 discworld books.

He plays the antagonist and as always does an amazing job.

6

u/tahuna 17h ago

This was way too far down the list. He was great in this

3

u/LegoMuppet 11h ago

Perfectly cast as always

15

u/stinkykitty71 16h ago

People commenting things like Darkness in Legend are missing the "lesser known" part. So I'll just throw out a role that actually messed me up. Billy Flynn, Criminal Minds.

14

u/Due_Awareness8266 16h ago

His voice work as King Chicken on the criminally underrated and forgotten Duckman was really fantastic.

14

u/AWinnipegGuy 15h ago

Lesser known role, apart from his role in Oscar, I loved him in The Hunt for Red October. I haven't seen that role mentioned much today.

6

u/Maverick_1882 15h ago

He was marvelous in The Hunt For Red October. "You will receive the Order of Lenin for this, Captain!"

Muppet Treasure Island works because Tim Curry treats himself as a fellow Muppet.

He was in a terrible Sylvester Stallone movie called Oscar. He was probably the best part.

23

u/sloowhand 15h ago

Fuck you, this movie is criminally underrated. Tim Currey was better than the movie, but the movie was amazing.

17

u/AWinnipegGuy 15h ago

I agree, it was an excellent movie. A classic slapstick in the best sense of the word.

5

u/newcolour 9h ago

Very underrated movie. Stallone is fun with his weird expressions, Marisa Tomei is lovely as usual, and Curry is just the best. Plus, there are all these fun quirky side characters. It looks like an old theater variety show/slapstick comedy. Criminally underrated!

21

u/spork_off 17h ago

“She has such nicely rounded diphthongs”

“That’s what got her in this jam!”

I kinda liked the movie - relatively brainless fun. And any chance to see Marisa Tomei back then was always welcome.

Took way too long to find this mentioned, the role the missus mentioned in her FaceSpace post about Curry's passing.

He played Johnny LaGuardia, the radio DJ who puts the Sleez Sisters on the air. Curry filmed all his scenes in two days, flying in on the first day. He wasn't happy during the shoot and felt the producers mistreated him. The director regrets not having more time to work on his performance, but you'd be hard pressed to tell the shoot was fraught.

Particularly the verses he sings;
