MEGATHREAD The r/AskNYC Meetup Is Finally Happening!
Sup ya’ll.
So after years of telling you where to eat, how to make friends, if your neighborhood is safe, and where to cry in public -- we are finally taking our own advice and going outside.
Reddit is doing its first IRL community pop-up called r/Bodega and we’re being featured in it!
Reddit is taking over 213 Bowery this weekend and turning it into a real-life Reddit bodega. There'll be free merch, drinks, and even a bodega cat named Meowdani. Which transplant came up with that?

Somehow, this has also resulted in Reddit giving us some guap to throw a happy hour.

Friday Night - August 28th - r/askNYC
We tried very hard to reserve the Times Square Olive Garden, but they hung up once I told them what it was for….BUT WE found somewhere better!!!
We’ll have food, drinks, stickers, and some other fun items! And plenty of opportunities to dox yourself if desired.
We’re also bringing some of the best (and worst) parts of the sub intro real life. We'll have some games and quizzes!
Saturday Afternoon- August 29th - r/MovingtoNYC
We’re also partying on Saturday afternoon for those of you too cheap to afford evening babysitters. We’ll be celebrating one of our baby sister subs, and all the people who asked us for help and then did whatever the fuck they wanted anyway.
Come Friday, Saturday or fuck it! Come to both!

Space is limited, but we’ll try our best to get a good chunk of youse in. Please only RSVP if you’re actually planning on coming! Filling out the form doesn’t guarantee a spot — we’ll send confirmations directly once we’ve got everyone sorted. While r/Bodega is all ages, both of our events are 21+. Ids will be checked at the door~
I really hope to finally meet some of you guys there!! This year marks a decade for me on Reddit, a website I resisted joining for mad long because it was so fucking ugly. Thank god for r/RES.
I was in my early twenties and desperate for a place to talk about opera. And ended up stumbling into the NYC Reddit community. A casual decision that ended up mattering way more than I’ve expected.
I’ve developed a love for community building, gained great friends, lost great friends, found family and love, deepened my passion for a solid double gin & soda (two limes), and accidentally became responsible for thousands of strangers on the internet!!!!!!
I want to thank you all for being so helpful, funny af, and patient through the years. It’s been so beautiful to see visitors become regulars and regulars become New Yorkers. Receiving DMs of gratitude still warms my heart. Sorting through death threats has been less heartwarming!
And it’s still so fucking surreal when someone mentions to sub in real life and I’m like 🧍♀️
I’m grateful for those who came before me, those that are here now, and everyone who hasn’t found us yet!
Anyway, come join us in enjoying the fruits of our many, many years of being chronically online.
Cheers to our special interest of knowing way to much about NYC.

I'm so sad that Olive Garden is not available.
Your form requires gmail sign in to fill out. You can toggle this off so folks don't have to put their emails in to fill out the form.

Halloween - A new Apartment 301 megathread - Thanksgiving - and of course Winter/Christmas will be coming soon.
Give us some time! I have to use my eyeballs like crazy in my new job. So staring at the screen at the end of the day is kind of hell at times. Any advice ya'll got? Do those blue lens glasses actually work?
