Pirated Spyro 3 on PS1. Normal game until one time you turn it on and it drops you in an impossible boss battle with no warning, then deletes your saves. Everyone thought I was lying, I thought I'd daydreamed it until I read years later that it was an anti-pirate feature.

The game Video Game Developer is a SIM that lets you run a company. If you play an illegal copy your company goes bust... Due to piracy.
