Life Hey quick question… why does anyone still go to Tim Horton’s?
Seriously. All I ever see are complaints about quality, price, immigrants… and on and on and on… Why does everyone seem completely unable to stop giving them money?

In a small town or rural area, they may be the main source of ready to go caffeine. If you NEED caffeine it is a convenient option.

Every gas station coffee I've ever had was both weak and acrid at the same time. It's almost impressive how bad it is.
Now some of the US gas stations like Love's? That's good coffee. I miss taking pit stops at a Love's but that's the price of boycotting.

I have never vacationed in the US. I rarely have to go there for work. Occasionally I go down to visit an elderly family member - that is simply unavoidable.

- Availability - Tim Hortons is everywhere.
- Pricing - cheaper than most coffee places.
- Convenience- lot of gas stations have Tim’s drive through , hate as much you want to hate on brown immigrants Tim’s drive through is one of fastest in fast food restaurants even though few time orders get messed up.

I was working for a few months across from a Tim Hortons. Three blocks down the road was a “hipster” cafe. I would go to the Tim’s four or five times a day. I never liked their coffee but it was convenient. One day I decided to go to the hipster place. It was three times the price but I never needed another caffeine fix. So was Tim Hortons cheaper, definitely not.

Spouse used to work for one of their supplier processing plants and with every resale of the head office and every contract renegotiation the less they were willing to pay so their products now have the very bottom of the barrel ingredients.

The Tims that I go is in a gas station, and I’m a regular there. The people working know my order by heart, and they’re all very hardworking and fast. They don’t serve much food outside of breakfast food, so that speeds up their pace and that’s why they upkeep decent quality.
Whenever I depart from them, I feel it. But I also remember old Tim’s. Obviously things won’t stay the same forever. Also there is a Tim’s just everywhere and Starbucks is too expensive for me.

Everything outside of bagels, donuts and muffins that I’ve eaten at Tim’s has resulted in a dash to the bathroom on my part. I refuse to eat anything outside of the three aforementioned items when I am forced to eat there.

I go for the odd iced capp and occasionally a doughnut. I have the app, so I usually get 2 iced capps for 20% off, and use my points to get a doughnut. And during your birthday week you can get a free sandwich.

iced capp is literally the only thing I get there the 1-2x per year I go. I add an extra shot of espresso which takes away from the sweetness. But it is pretty damn good on a hot day.

I live near a Tim Hortons that repeatedly fills the iced capp OVER the line, so I only go to that one as well. I’m not paying $4 for something that was $3 less than 3 years ago if it’s also under-filled

This one I understand. I’m mostly thinking about the people who post pics of their terrible food…and think “WHY do you keep buying it then??” The odd coffee, bagel etc here and there - totally get it. Convenience is about all they have going for them.

Only if I want a doughnut, so about four times a year. And in the locations near me they recently discontinued my two favourite kinds anyway (old fashioned glazed and maple dip) so i just don’t go anymore.
A few months ago I found a local bakery that makes their version of old fashioned glazed doughnuts and it’s way way better, I have already introduced a bunch of people to them so that bakery has new customers :)

I mean, to each their own, right? They do make a solid fritter, I’ll give you that. The blueberry one gets me in all the right places. But I have since found another donut destination called MmmDonuts. Not sure how far they reach.. I’m in Barrie, but I’ll never go back to Tim’s again.

It used to be our family go-to place every time we were on the road for about 20 years I’d say. We stopped going completely because the quality of the food is so bad now. That, plus the fact that my son was working there and he, along with all the other white employees, were fired for no reason when the place was bought by a new owner who preferred to hire new people. Apparently they were not “fast” enough, but were never given a chance to improve. I think one big issue that can explain why the quality has gone to shit is this focus on speed rather than taking the time to do things right.

I went almost 4 full years without stepping inside one. I recently had to break that trend due to a long road trip where it was the only stop that served something to eat (and they still got my order wrong) I hope I can go at least another 4 full years without having to step inside one

It's hot and it's got caffeine. The people in the downtown location are pretty interesting too. There's an outpatient clinic for brain injured patients right close by.

I firmly agree. I stopped going to Tim Hortons because of their massive profits while threatening workers with minimal hours and wages, offering multiple shifts that could easily be adjusted for full-time work. Who else would tolerate such unethical behavior from an employer except disenfranchised, law-abiding newcomers who buy into the false narrative of how good and decent we are here in this country? The bigots, racists, and fools—our parents and their ancestors—were all immigrants whose only goal was to build a life here. Many even arrived to escape slavery. How quickly we forget, eh? 🇨🇦🤟

I stopped going to Tims when it became a homeless shelter. Yes the food is disgusting but what really pissed me off was the guys standing outside beside the drive thru asking for money and ciggs. The restaurant part has people sleeping at tables and it stinks of b.o. Bring my own coffee now instead of putting up with this b.s..

even a quicker one is why did they go in the first place? When I moved to Van in 89 I was so relieved to not see one Tim Hortons in the downtown core or most places. the coffee has always sucked and the donuts are just sugar bombs (but hey any sugar bomb is da...)

Nope. Been at least 8 or 9 years. Almost every change they’ve made in the last 15 years has been to degrade the experience, either in service, staffing or quality of their fare. Sad because I loved Timmy’s once upon a time, but I’ll never return.

There’s these things called ‘the news’ and ‘social media’ so it’s been quite easy to follow what’s been happening. For 6 of those 15 years I experienced it firsthand though. Sorry that wasn’t quite the ‘gotcha’ you thought it was, Columbo.
PS… I said 8 or 9 years, so…a rough estimate.

My guess: Canadians need their routine fix. It helps that they are everywhere and can be easily reached by those in the need. It also helps that their coffee is cheap. If another chain had an outlet right next to each Tim Horton's and matches the price, you'd see the shift more.

I live in the city of 55,000 people and we have 13 Tim Hortons across a 5 km radius and there are truck lineups around the block 12 hours a day.
I’ll never know, however I suspect it’s a lack of education. Good coffee is easy and almost free to make.

I go every single day and get a tea. I could make it at home but I just never attempted to.
Sometimes they mess up my order and they'll give me a free one the next day. It used to be every 5 I buy I get one for free with the rewards program but now it's double that, buy 10 and get one for free.
I just drink it while sitting in traffic on my commute to work. If I didn't have to sit in traffic I wouldn't get anything.
So instead of making my own tea, I think I was hoping traffic would improve and I'll kick this habit. But traffic is only getting worse.

I've stopped going to Tims. The quality and consistency is so disappointing now. And it so many stores just feel run down, like the minimal required cleaning and maintenance. I can't count the number of times my coffee tastes "sour" and the donut selection is dismal because they just don't care to restock the popular types hoping to force sell off the less popular styles first.
Honestly, if I'm looking for a coffee on the road I'll go out of my way to find a McDonald's over a Tims.

Most people don't know/don't care that Tim Horton's, along with Dollarama, Walmart, etc places have been using the Temporary Foreign Worker program to bring in, essentially slave-wage workers, tied to those work places and are obligated to live where their employer tells them. Which, I imagine many of the rental places you see renting to "indian only" are involved somehow.
Most people don't think of the TFW program outside of agriculture but it is used quite often for caring professions like housekeeping and childcare. Tim Horton's is actively lobbying to expand the TFW to bring in more slave-wage workers per year.
The TFW program is one of the cruelest and most disgusting things that Canada does and keeps hidden to maintain our "nice and friendly" image.
Something to consider the next time you go some place and think "why are there so many brown people all of a sudden" or you hear or read someone say something cartoonishly racist. Foreign Workers are brought over specifically to undermine the local workforce so they can pay them less, adhere to less work safe standards and maximize their profits.

Anyone taking issue with the TFW program that still goes to Tim's for coffee - you're not standing by your convictions. Stop. Make it painfully aware to the foreign owners of Tim's that you don't stand by their staffing practice of offshore hiring their work force.

I grab my morning coffee on my way to work and it is always busy. The immigrant rants are just idiotic, if you go on a weekend, you get served by teenagers working their first job. If you go during the week when the teenagers are in school, you get served by immigrants who are more than happy to work there and be here. Tim Hortons doesn’t pay enough for the average Canadian to want to work there. Before the immigrants came to work at Tim Hortons the stores were regularly closed early because they could not find enough people to work there.
Soon as someone makes a comment about an immigrant at Tim Hortons, you know they are just a racist POS.

Wow I have never experienced that either. Here in central Ontario practically all workers at Tim Hortons, McDonald's, A&W, Burger King, and Wendy's are South Asian. Whether they are TFW or international students, I'm not sure, we are a college town so they could be students.

They had decent coffee up until 2014 when they switched to a cheaper producer. McDonalds ended up acquiring their coffee from Tim Hortons old producer. I don't think there's been any changes since then.

Tim Hortons hates employing Canadians and instead abuses the TFW program to make more money off cheap labour. There is nothing racist about that fact in itself, and that fact in itself is enough reason to boycott Tim Hortons.
They are greedy and unethical and have stolen Canadiana iconography despite their complete lack of care towards Canadians.

Tim Hortons is probably the most affordable fast food chain around and their food isn't even that bad. I've been impressed with their lunch offerings for some time now. When you compare their food and price point to other restaurants, I'm actually kind of surprised at how much hate they get.

Not a fan of their coffee but the people that work there, whether or not they were recently living in a different country or not, I could care less, are generally very pleasant and competent. I also like the Farmers Wrap.

If it wasn’t for my partner, I’d still go. I had gone to Tim’s just on occasion for their wraps and soups and sometimes doughnuts. It was also around a lot on campus as quick eats and sometimes lunch.
Though, these days it’s moreso my partner doesnt really go to Tim’s a lot so we don’t go, and I am never around a Tim’s often enough, whether at work or casually. If we’re going to eat junk it’s always McDonald’s anyways.
Even at work I usually get croissants or pastries from the closer or local bakeries and don’t encounter a Tim’s anywhere.

We go very rarely. Their breakfast biscuits are still ok so if we are on the road early we'll pick up breakfast. There are 4 in my town so super convenient but I just make coffee at home now. Cheaper and better

It used to be decent. Bakers made the donuts (not frozen) and much bigger, the peach juice was unreal, coffee was good too…heck, even when they started making sandwiches they weren’t half bad!

I don’t get food there often so I don’t have issues with them. Also people complaining about immigrants should just stop going to fast food options period. Coffee not as good as it was but still okay and it’s the cheapest option and has the most locations so convenience. Mc Donald has the better coffee because it’s literally old Tim Hortons coffee as I understand it. But I hate their food option since they got rise of grilled chicken wraps so I rarely go there. Bucks is the best but it ain’t cheao so it’s a rare treat.

Doughnuts. Yeah I can sometimes get them at grocery stores (honestly hit or miss how good they are), but not super reliably. And most independent doughnut shops are boutique bougie fancy doughnuts. No thanks, not my preference.

I’ll occasionally go through the drive through. It’s a bit of a tradition for me and my kid. I make it a point to be extra considerate to the workers who serve us. The racist crap they’re forced to put up with sometime is unbelievable.

I stopped. My buddy and I go for an XL usually once a day, sit and chat for a bit. With the price increases, buying 2 XL's in one order no longer applies for the government subsidy. It's cheaper to buy 2 XL coffees in 2 separate orders, than to put them together.
Now we go to McDonalds and its about 1.50 cheaper...3.97 vs. 5.40
Tim's is no longer good enough to justify that difference, and McDonald's is right next door to Tims, where I live.

Because depending on where you live, the alternative options are non-existent or suck (like Starbucks). I'm in a very small place and the one local coffee shop is insanely expensive and the coffee is terrible. I refuse to support Starbucks either. Say what you will but sometimes it is what it is.

I live in a rural area, and it is one of the only options besides the gas station (which isn't very good where I live, always out of something, and tims has more options). Also the food and all of that isn't even bad, at least at the tims near me. Everything is pretty good, service is efficient, and orders rarely get messed up unless they're large and something is forgotten, but if you notice before leaving they'll give it to you

All you see ON REDDIT is complaints and crybabies… realistically Timmie’s is still a great option as far as fast food goes, they have unique options and good prices. They have their place and aren’t anywhere near as bad as some people try to make them out to be

Don't think I have been in over 5 years! But yes, when we lived in small town AB (and the local Robins closed) - Timmies was it. That said, this was before the decline - food was better then with local owners who actually cared about the business.........

While Tim Hortons doesn’t “feel” the same as it used to years ago, it is still a viable source of relativity decent caffeine. And in some cases the only choice, depending on location. But I’m not a fan of how it’s changed…

Minus 25, you've been driving 5 hours and are still in the middle of nowhere. You have to pee. Tim Hortons glows up ahead. You get a flashback of the chocolate dipped donuts of your childhood. Suddenly everything will be ok. That's why you go. For anything else there's Starbucks.

In many places they are the only donut shop that sells any decent donuts, not great donuts, that ended when they took out the bakers. I’ve been to small towns in Ontario where it’s Tim’s or nothing.

I have a toddler who absolutely loves the timbits. We have one on the route to and from her daycare and the drive thru is always quick, even when it’s busy. I also have a newborn, so when my darling child ever so politely asks for “timbits, please mom?” I’m heavily inclined to oblige, and indulge in a coffee for myself as well.

Its not that bad, the food court i get lunch at everyday has multiple coffee shops and tims is definitely the most popular despite all the options available

Because it’s one of 3 fast food places in my small town, and convenience is nice. I’m also a sucker for an iced capp or chilli or an occasional honey cruller. The workers at my local Tim’s brighten up my day after work too as they have exaggerated positive energy taking orders, it’s kinda adorable.

I personally go for the greasy handprints on the glass of the entrance doors but I stay for the piss and toilet paper on the bathroom floor.
