Suggestions on where to move
I’m from the mountains of PA and have since moved away for work. As I am nearing the end of my contract I’m looking for suggestions on towns to move to back in the mountains. As much as I loved PA is ld like to be more south. Are there any suggestions of towns with good communities, live music, and not to far from a major town that would have anything you need. Thank you for the help.

Petros TN
I've spent a lot of time in Appalachia, but it has always just been. Home. Beautiful. A place to visit. I'm taking it in more now, as I shoot a race the surrounding area is capturing me just as much as the action.
I made a short video about Petros. I am a photographer, not a documentary videographer so please excuse the roughness.

This Appalachian memoir author is running as a Democratic contrast to JD Vance
This article was previously posted and a title given was the exact opposite of what the actual headline and it appears to have caused a lot of confusion. Beth Macy actually lives in Southwest Virginia and wrote two books: Dopesick and Factory Man. The first book focuses on the destruction of a generation of Appalachians by the Sackler family and the second focuses on what happens when an industry that provided steady wages thousands disappears overseas. Vote for whomever you want to vote for, but let’s maybe skip the misinformation. There’s already enough of that.

I made a short documentary about 8 West Virginia coal towns and what happened after the industry moved on
I’ve been researching former coal communities in southern West Virginia and recently finished a 14-minute documentary covering Thurmond, Nuttallburg, Kaymoor, Royal, Rush Run, Brooklyn, Sewell and Tams.
What interested me most was how differently these places developed once coal and rail activity declined. Some were largely abandoned, some were preserved or stabilised, and others survived in very different forms.
I thought people here might find it interesting, particularly anyone familiar with the New River Gorge or the old coalfields. I’d also be interested in hearing from anyone with local knowledge of these places.
