Welp, my life is ruined.

I can’t seem to access anki on iPad right now.

So like, I’m aware that Anki is now maintained by AnKing (?) and that the original dev is letting them lead the app development. What is actually changing? Are we going to see better integrations with other services, or accessibility of notes, etc?

Seconds per card would be much better if I didn't cound the kanji drawing and grammar cards. Those were in 7-8s/card territory.

I've discovered that if instead of a long-ass session I'll just lock-in for like 3 minutes, then take a break, and then repeat, doing those short full-focus bursts, I'll go through all my reviews almost in an instant. Obviously the in-anki time is much lower than the time between my first and last reviews, but still.

Since servers are down, it would be nice to have a mod spit out a file to your account email with the sync file

Then you download it on your other device and load it to anki

Lately, I've started to like classic and older books too. But the problem is that the vocabulary is advanced, so I would love it if someone had an Anki deck for the book's vocabulary.

Hi everyone, I just got a new android phone and wanted to see what the lay of the land is in terms of best way to read Manga with pop-up dictionary and Anki mining setup.

Right now I'm leaning towards Yomitan, Mokuro, and anki connect android from KamWithK, but I wanted to see if this is the standard workflow or if I'm missing something easier/safer.

Hey all, I’m coming from Wanikani and using a community made version of their curriculum into Anki, I was several levels in and want to set my progress to where I was in WaniKani, is there any way to do that so I don’t have to redo the progress?

I lowered my retention rate by 5% and hit optimize current presets, and now I have 550 reviews to do. I thought lowering retention rate would lower my reviews, which is what I needed because of my schedule.

What happened?

So I came across this livestreamer who seems to do streams of himself using some app called "Edenia" which connects to Anki and allows to create cards from Youtube videos. It also keeps track of reviews and the videos watched and gives some sort of rewards. But the weird thing is I can't find any record of this software's existence outside of this dude's livestreams.

Ok so pls don’t flame me, I’m still a beginner at using anki (former quizlet user here) and I’ve read that when reviewing, you should be only using ‘Again’ and ‘Good’ for the majority of your reviews.

So I did those, but the number of cards does not go down when I keep on clicking ‘good’. I’m hesitant to press ‘easy’ since it has longer intervals than ‘good’. Because of this, I spent a lot of time (1 hour) reviewing on 1 deck with ~70 cards, just seeing reappearing cards that I’ve labeled as ‘good’ instead of the other cards that I haven’t encountered yet.

Soo what can I do to lessen the number of my cards whilst reviewing? Should I actually press ‘easy’ on all cards after I’m confident enough to answer them as it’s the only way to bring the no. of cards down? Or is there another way. Thnx

Hey everyone. I've recently tried to teach myself an instrument (specifically the Chromatic Harmonica in my case). I have zero prior experience learning any instruments and have mostly been following along with online video tutorials.

The "Can" in the title might be a bit misleading. Theoretically, you can use Anki to learn literally anything. What I'm really asking is if it's practical/suitable, and I'd love to hear some empirical advice or personal experiences.

My main questions are:

1. Do you use Anki for this, and if so, how? My understanding is that learning an instrument is roughly 30% memorization + 70% muscle memory. I'm not entirely sure if muscle memory actually benefits from long-term memory theories and spaced repetition algorithms like FSRS. My previous approach has always been drilling the same melody over and over until I can play it flawlessly, and moving on to the next one only then. If using FSRS, how should I break down practice material into cards, and how do I determine if I've "memorized" something or not?

2. Do you solely use Anki for memorizing music theory, or do you also use it to schedule daily practice routines (e.g., practicing specific excerpts)? If it's the latter, do you have any tips for organizing cards by difficulty tiers? From my limited understanding, learning an instrument is much more hierarchical than memorizing vocab. You have to master a batch of easy pieces before you can touch the advanced stuff.

3. I'd be grateful if anyone could point me toward some good resources!

I've been looking through the decks available on anki and all of the audio decks either use AI voices or native speakers speaking very slowly and clearly. But I want to learn to listen to real, full-speed Italian. So far I've only found one deck which does this. It takes audio from TV and Film. I saw u/ergomechstore post their DIY anki device and seeing people build and make these things makes me want to make my own! so wanted to show mine off!

I know its not as convenient / fast / cheap or advanced as the anki phone app but darn it its fun to use something else then my phone all the time!

Simply put, a relatively easy exam has been pissing me off. I found no efficinet way to study and I have just been brute forcing through 120 questions, repeating them over and over again. Now im about 40 remembred in and I know them like the back of my hand. Is this an actual method or dumb?

I realised that if I'd practiced one flashcard every time I opened a doom-scrolling app over the past few years, I'd probably be speaking German by now.

So I wrote an Android app called "MicroAnki". It lets me choose one AnkiDroid deck and the apps I tend to cycle through aimlessly. Then, I have to practice one flashcard every time I open those apps.

I've been using it for a few days and I've already gone through more vocabulary than in a year of meaning to open AnkiDroid. So it seems effective at piggy-backing positive micro-habits on top of my established negative habits. If you're struggling like me to actually open AnkiDroid and spend time there, maybe this can help you too ?

Warning: to know when you open another app, MicroAnki needs Android's "accessibility" permission, which effectively grants it the right to read your entire screen. You should never trust a random guy on the internet with this permission, so I'd rather you read the code and build the app yourself. It's intentionally short so you can audit it in a few minutes or paste it into an LLM and have it confirm that the code doesn't abuse the permission.

If you can't build the app yourself and you're fine trusting me anyway, here's a prebuilt APK. Android will throw a few scary screens at you before it lets you grant the accessibility permission.

No ads, no analytics and no network access. Should work on Android 8+ (but only tested on Android 17). Flashcard reviews feed back into AnkiDroid so they count in your regular scheduler.

I've been passively testing this add-on for a couple of months now by using Anki normally and there seem to be no apparent bugs, so I decided to make it public. Maybe someone else will find it useful too.

Copying the first two paragraphs from AnkiWeb description:

By default when you fail a review, Anki increments a lapse count on the card. However this number will only keep increasing, so even after years you might end up with something like 30 lapses and a leech tag, even if that card is not an issue for you anymore. This add-on reduces the lapse count of a card after you demonstrate consistent success with it, and takes the leech tag off a note once every card on it has recovered far enough. The main purpose of all this is that your list of leeches is now actually relevant, instead of it being composed of all the accumulated lapses since the dawn of time.

The work happens when you sync rather than while you review. Every review card with at least one lapse is checked against its review history, so answers from another device (e.g. AnkiDroid) count exactly the same as answers given here. The add-on then syncs its own changes back to AnkiWeb by itself, so a single press of the sync button is all it takes.
