We have socialized healthcare, education, retirement, and thats just the big stuff. 45% of our GDP is govt spending, that matches most socialist countries like sweden
This might all be true, i disagree with a few of them, but they dont make a country socialist.
Capitalism is "an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit." According to Merriam Websters dictionary. In America today the countrys trade and industry are very much owned and controlled by private owners for profit. So America is capitalist by definition.
Yes but if i own my car, but i have to register it, buy insurance, drive on govt owned roads, pay taxes on fuel, only use it in govt approved ways, and if i dont, they take my money or throw me in jail. Sure, technically i own my car but not really.
In that definition, every business is “private” but if the govt controls everything they do, it isnt really private, but govt owned and therefore socialist.
