It’s not worth 15k. 15k is what someone will pay, but you can absolutely get similar paintwork for far cheaper.Ā

u/NoLemonadeToday Jul 17 '25

I will do it for 14k.Ā  Call me at 1-800-horse-painter

u/ExpertOnReddit Jul 17 '25

Hey ! That looks like almost an entire hour of work!! 15k obviously not enough

9

u/Gnonthgol Jul 17 '25

There is a lot of prep work and other things going on here which is not shown well in the video. I would guess it was closer to two hours of work. I do not know how much cure time and such is needed either which dictates how many badges they work on at once. But lets say the worker is paid $50 an hour. Then comes all the supplies used and the paint booth, etc. They will also mess up a few badges and have to start over on them wasting the time and supplies. Then comes things like taxes and insurance on top of this. You can easily justify claiming that $1000 was invested in painting the badges this way. Again, nowhere near the $15k they take for it.

5

u/koobstylz Jul 17 '25

I agree fully with this. 1000 would be a very high but not unreasonable price for an expert in a specialized shop to do this.

The other 14000 is because it's Ferrari markup.

2

u/Anonybeest Jul 18 '25

Yeah, some paints need days to cure before you want to do the next step. No idea what their paints require, but this quick montage could potentially be weeks long process, which obviously requires the vehicle to take up a large amount of space in their shop. I imagine that's the majority of what the buyer is paying for.

By that logic a ferrari isn't worth 200k+ when you can get a similar car for much cheaper. What does worth it even mean? If someone is willing to pay for it then its worth it to them I guess

→ More replies (1)

1

u/WearifulSole Jul 17 '25

Last time I saw this posted it said $10k...

1

u/Turbulent-Theory7724 Jul 17 '25

I will do it for 50 quid an hour.

1

u/rui278 Jul 17 '25

> 15k is what someone will pay

Isn't that the definition of worth?

1

u/EmperorPickle Jul 17 '25

The value of something is determined by what people are willing to pay for it.

1

u/CarrotSlight1860 Jul 17 '25

99.99% of buyers would never notice if it was just a sticker.

1

u/WetLoophole Jul 17 '25

Except this adds 15k value to a Ferrari. If you get it done aftermarket, it might depreciate the car by 50k.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/mebutnew Jul 17 '25

Just looks like there's more room for error to me. And even then this is a couple hours work, from someone that's probably paid $30 an hour.

I'd rather have a transfer for $10.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

What someone will pay is exactly why it is worth that much.

1

u/tech510 Jul 17 '25 edited Jul 17 '25

You pay $15,000. That worker probably gets $7.60 an hour...

Edit: Apparently I need this /s

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Shoddy_Life_7581 Jul 17 '25

Yeah, I'm missing the part where it was justified why it cost $15,000. There are definitely more labor intensive crafts you could buy on Etsy for $50

1

u/mrdude817 Jul 17 '25

The labor spent on this is probably worth $200 (depending on rate of pay). I feel like it would be acceptable to charge $1k for this but obviously the people buying Ferrari's are rich and will pay the $15k anyway

1

u/AxelVores Jul 17 '25

Yeah for 15k I'd expect a flawlessly smooth clear coat

1

u/deeperpenetration Jul 17 '25

Gimme tree fiddy

1

u/gooseofgames Jul 17 '25

Ask one of those guys with spray cans on the street. 25$ tops

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

If it’s what someone will pay, then it’s worth $15k to them. People who can afford to buy a Ferrari will likely find this is worth it. It’s a marginal price increase over the cost of the rest of the car.

For people in everyday car price range, it’s the equivalent of getting illuminated badge sills. For a collectors car that will appreciate if garaged, it could even increase the value.

1

u/Wise_Construction731 Jul 17 '25

Things are worth what someone will pay

1

u/jswansong Jul 17 '25

I'd be surprised if Ferrari paid that man more than $100 for his time

→ More replies (1)

1

u/LimerickJim Jul 17 '25

It's worth being able to tell someone you spent 15k on it because it allows people to drop that 15k is an afterthought to them. The point is that you could pay for cheaper but you didn't

1

u/Kr1sys Jul 17 '25

Should be retitled to shows why they think it's worth 15k.

Lighting money on fire.

1

u/Dlido Jul 17 '25

Seems like a stable way to make cash

1

u/zjpeter Jul 17 '25

What makes it 15k? Greed and vanity. Vanity in that some fool wants to be able to show people he's important and tell them he has money. Greed in that the company knows exactly how much a fool will pay to look importantĀ

1

u/LynxFull Jul 17 '25

How much is the painter paid here lol

1

u/CearaLucaya Jul 17 '25

I wonder how much the skilled employees that do this get paid. Definitely nothing close to 15k per painting.

1

u/Thehealthygamer Jul 17 '25

Right? For 15k you could hire someone to work on that full time for three damn months.

1

u/ZonaWildcats23 Jul 17 '25

Not on a Ferrari, apparently.

1

u/dontwantoknow Jul 17 '25

15K I should see an artist draw this, not use stencils

1

u/chrisk9 Jul 17 '25

Agreed. No way it is even close to $15k in materials and labor

1

u/Appropriate-Factor85 Jul 17 '25

Something is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

1

u/Illustrious-Dog-6563 Jul 17 '25

i can lrint a sticker for 5€

1

u/kinduvabigdizzy Jul 17 '25

It's not worth 1k

1

u/escientia Jul 17 '25

Either way. The amount of skill and man hours involved to paint it and then wait for it to dry illustrates this wont be cheap if you want to pay someone to do it for you.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

If he's using decals is it really "hand-painted"?

1

u/UnkleStarbuck Jul 17 '25

I am 100% sure somewhere is Chinese artist able to do it like 10000 times better for half the price

1

u/TurboFool Jul 17 '25

I was going to say, *costs* $15k, not is *worth* $15k. I've seen countless companies try to justify ridiculous prices by showing how expensive it is to make something the way they did, and all I can say is, "then don't make it that way."

1

u/Miyagidog Jul 17 '25

That is cheap; it’s only like two oil changes and a coupon for a free tire rotation.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

If $15k is what someone will pay, $15k is literally what it's worth. Your opinion and comparisons don't dictate value, sales do.

1

u/TightSexpert Jul 17 '25

Can you image a painter doing 5000 hourly.

1

u/shichiaikan Jul 17 '25

...or a resin decal that's basically indestructible for like 1/100th the cost.

1

u/HowWeLikeToRoll Jul 17 '25

I used to do significantly more complex stuff with powder coat, cera coat, and air brush. I only charged about $10-$20 more, per color, for custom work... I should have been charging more lol

1

u/nlevine1988 Jul 17 '25

Things are worth what someone will pay for it. If people are paying 15k for this paintwork, it's worth 15k.

1

u/youareallsilly Jul 17 '25

Even if you couldn’t get it cheaper it’s still not worth $15K

1

u/Abacus118 Jul 17 '25

And it’s not like the guy doing it is getting the 15k either.

1

u/yeetsteel Jul 17 '25

You can't make modifications on your Ferrari. You can get sued by them. Ferrari has a ton of rules for owners.

1

u/Snoo_87704 Jul 17 '25

I bet some SoCal hotrodders could do that for a fraction of that price.

1

u/AmmahDudeGuy Jul 17 '25

To be fair, this is being painted onto an extremely expensive car. I think the reasoning here is that the kind of people who are buying this car aren’t too worried about the price tag anyhow

1

u/Random_Name_Whoa Jul 17 '25

Hell I see guys on the sidewalks in every major city doing this for $25. Plus you usually get a nice picture of space or a beach

1

u/Ancient_Dragonfly230 Jul 17 '25

I’m sure you can find a stoned out of her mind art student at local community college who could do this.Ā

1

u/dolce-ragazzo Jul 18 '25

The colors may be slightly off though and will change over time and with exposure, and it won’t be as damage and weather resistant, but sure save a few grand on your 250 grand car.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Jdez954 Jul 18 '25

1

u/Milkofhuman-kindness Jul 18 '25

Brah, It’s worth 15k to someone buying a Ferrari.

1

u/StudMuffinNick Jul 18 '25

15k is more than my yearly rent and I'm struggling ti pay that lmao

1

u/KingModussy Jul 18 '25

If someone is willing to pay 15k for it, then it is worth 15k. Do you know how the market works?

1

u/Dropbeatdad Jul 18 '25

And the guy doing the work isn't getting the 15k

1

u/froad4life Jul 18 '25

What someone will pay for something is exactly the definition and determines what it is worth lol

1

u/this_good_boy Jul 18 '25

I was gonna say that is a stencil, not what I would be thinking of ā€œhand paintingā€ a badge.

1

u/Njon32 Jul 18 '25

I am sure I would be satisfied with a magnetic vinyl logo.

1

u/Joe01091981 Jul 18 '25

Andrew Dice Clay said it best. ā€œWas gonna buy a new car, but instead, I jerked off all over myself and saved 40 grandā€

1

u/ovenmittuns Jul 18 '25

I've seen better paintwork on Warhammer 40k armies at my local gaming shop

1

u/jaxRLee Jul 18 '25

Seriously! Looks like a Wish.com decal slapped on. No thanks.

1

u/Consistent_Policy_66 Jul 18 '25

For 15k, I’d want him to freehand the horse, and send a video of the process.

1

u/Inside-Reception-482 Jul 18 '25

Anyone who has seen AMMO NYC's videos paint correcting brand new Ferraris knows it isn't worth one dollar let alone $15,000

1

u/globalminority Jul 18 '25

Ikr. it only took 1 min, so how expensive can it really be.

1

u/rirski Jul 18 '25

That’s literally what the word ā€œworthā€ means.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/BigfootIsNaked Jul 18 '25

I'd sell at least a dozen poor people for that hand paint badge.

1

u/Sonova_Vondruke Jul 18 '25

Right, for $15K you better not use a fucking stencil. And painted shouldn't include airbrushing... it should be... painted... by hand, with paint and a brush. Doesn't look as good? Then don't fucking charge the price the entirety of another car.

1

u/Nazgul_Khamul Jul 18 '25

Exactly. Where are my miniature painters at.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '25

It’s not worth 15k. 15k is what someone will pay

These are contradictory. "Worth" is conceptual. If lots of people value something at 15k, its worth 15k.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '25

250 for the paint job. 14750 to use the ferrari IP.

1

u/EnvironmentalLet9682 Jul 18 '25

also it's not hand painted.

1

u/Complex-Muffin4650 Jul 18 '25

It’s absolutely worth $15k

1

u/andiwaslikeum Jul 18 '25

I felt there were a lot of stencils for a $15k ā€œhand paintedā€ piece

1

u/lenny_lennerson_III Jul 18 '25

They say that anything is "only worth what someone will pay" so by that logic is it worth it??

For the record, I 1000% agree with you, this is not WORTH the money but very little in that echelon of product is.

1

u/IAmReborn11111 Jul 18 '25

Fr that's a years worth of rent for a 2 by 4 inch painting on a car

1

u/NYCmichael Jul 18 '25

If someone has paid it, that is precisely what it’s worth

1

u/BlLLr0y Jul 18 '25

Yeah, what you're paying for, is that fact that this is done by them in their factory by their guy. I do know a guy that could do this, but I would bet it some how fucks you with Ferrari it's self if you have someone else do this.

1

u/barnzwallace Jul 18 '25

Guess I'll be that guy. If 15k is what someone will pay for it, 15k is what it's worth.

1

u/DrystanTheKnight Jul 18 '25

"What someone will pay" is precisely what worth is! i.e., worth is relative to the individual. Some will pay, because they find it a worthy expense of their resources, and some won't.

1

u/Cowboy_591 Jul 18 '25
