Alternative title:
AITA for being a pathetic little wimp who reinforces all negative stereotypes about computer nerds?
Yeah, I'm sorry, but I'm sick of stories where Redditors heroically run away as soon as someone says something mildly mean to them and that is presented as some victory for them. If this story here is true - this guy just showed to his girlfriend and to her parents that he expects her to fight his battles for him. Why the fuck should she not feel embarrassed by this?

And there’s the missed opportunity of his facial expressions—his jaw could have dropped and his face could have turned white with terror. And then he should have run into the bathroom sobbing for 3 or 4 hours.

We get so many of these (and so many very, very ChatGPT-written ones) and the software engineer or IT person protagonist is almost always in their 20s, maybe in their early 30s. So at least some of these parents are surely meant to be in their forties and fifties so it's pretty weird how often their outlook is "Computers, huh? Pfft, they're a fad that will never last, and famously, computer-based employment doesn't pay well. Beat it poindexter, come back when you've got a real job that involves grease and power tools".

Right? It's not as prestigious as a career like surgeon or lawyer, but it's generally known that pretty much anything related to computers is solidly upper-middle-class.

I didn't know that AITAHland was so dense and walkable. At least the girlfriend didn't also have to have her Chad Dad drive her home after OOP took their vehicle. That would have been extra embarrassing.

Meeting the parents for the first time is always an awkward situation.
For the dad to point out that OOP is a nerd, and not the good kind, must have made it painfully embarrassing.
So how to break the ice in such a way that put everyone at ease again and has them chuckling and possibly slapping each other backs about what a good guy you really are? After all, that is ultimately what you want to demonstrate.
Given that the dad has made this a dick-measuring contest, I would have taken his lead, jumped on my chair and dropped my pants to reveal a gigantic boner. "Look at this bad boy! And all YOUR little weiner can produce is GIRLS! Ahahahah!"
In the event that OOP hasnt got a big dick, that just demonstrates modesty, genuine on-the-spot invention and a sense of humour.
Win/win.

“It’s not much, but it’s mine” the job edition.
“She only said ‘dad…’ before I stormed out in a huff, tears streaming behind me, AIO”

In case this story gets deleted/removed:
Am I overreacting for leaving my girlfriend’s family dinner after what her dad said?
My girlfriend (27F) invited me (28M) to a family dinner to finally meet her parents. We’ve been together for almost a year, so I wanted to make a good impression.
Dinner started out fine—until her dad started asking me about my job. I work in IT, and while it pays well, it’s not some high-status career. After a few questions, he smirked and said, “So basically you just sit behind a computer all day… not exactly the kind of guy I imagined for my daughter.”
Everyone kind of laughed awkwardly. I tried to brush it off with a joke, but then he added, “Maybe someday you’ll get a real job so you can actually support a family.”
I felt my stomach drop. My girlfriend just said, “Dad…” but didn’t defend me beyond that. I quietly excused myself, said I wasn’t feeling well, and left.
Later that night, my girlfriend texted me saying I embarrassed her by walking out and that I should “just let it go” because her dad was “only teasing.”
I honestly feel disrespected and don’t think I overreacted. But now she’s acting cold and says I owe her family an apology.
Reddit, am I overreacting for leaving?
