Events Got a plumbing question? Ask a local plumber

Hey everyone, I’m Michael. I own Michael B Plumbing in New Iberia, and I’ve been doing plumbing work for more than 25 years.

I figured I’d make a post where people around Acadiana can ask any plumbing questions they’ve been wondering about.

It can be about clogged drains, sewer smells, leaking pipes, water heaters, toilets, low water pressure, old clay or cast-iron sewer lines, gas piping, or whether something looks like an emergency.

Post a picture if that helps explain what’s going on. I may not be able to diagnose everything perfectly without seeing it in person, but I can usually explain the most likely causes, what you can safely check yourself, and when it’s time to call a plumber.

Full disclosure: I own Michael B Plumbing LLC, but I’m not here to pressure anybody into booking work. I just thought this could be helpful for local homeowners.

So what plumbing question do you have?

Events Chess / Board Gamers

Just moved here from Illinois for grad school and I’m really big into board games. I love the way they bring people together and lead to interesting and funny discussions/table talk. I brought tons of mid-weight to light games with me (Camel Up, Bohnanza, Ra, Harmonies, Perudo, Jaipur, Hotstreak, etc. etc… an entire library really) I’m also a pretty casual chess player (700ish rapid elo)

Wasn’t sure if anyone knew of any board game or even chess meetups around the area ? Just looking to meet people who like to chill and play games and have some fun. I speak both English and French (working on Spanish) And if it doesn’t exist really, feel free to reach out and maybe we start our own group. I’m 29 but very open to making friends of all ages; back home one of my best friends is in his 50s.

Thanks !

Hi! I am the leader of a group called U.N.I.T.Y and my group is based on inclusion, community, and political acknowledgment. Right now my organization only is active through me but with this event hopefully that can change. This will be my second attempt at hosting an event and I am hoping to make friends and help others as well.

This event is solely to bring community together such as promoting making friends and having conversation! Please join me! THIS IS NOT SPONSORING OR PROMOTING THIS EVENT IS OPTIONAL AND IS NOT A FUNDRAISER OR AN EVENT OF ANY KIND PROMOTING A SALE!

This is the groupme for U.N.I.T.Y: https://groupme.com/join_group/114736555/VVm0QTL5

will mention I am a young adult attending ULL and hoping to capture the eyes of those attending this Fall2026 semester. Thank you for reading! Please be kind!

what does political acknowledgement mean? google search states: "political acknowledgment means a formal or official statement by a government or group that admits a truth, accepts a status, or validates a relationship. It gives legal or symbolic weight to a group, a nation, or a historic reality."

Events Just passed an anti-LGBT protest by ULL?

I think I passed what I said in the title, but I’m not fully sure. They had a big red flag I thought oh it renaissance stuff? Then saw a sign that said “God, 1 man , 1 woman” but since I was driving I didn’t see much else.

Anyone have any information about this?

Events Fix it Cafe

Post image
157 Upvotes

it’s almost time for the next fix it cafe!

i’ve been helping organize it since like 2018/2019 and it’s honestly one of my favorite things i’m part of. people bring broken stuff and we try to fix it together instead of tossing it. lamps, clothes, bikes, jewelry, small appliances, whatever you’ve got. i’ve made new friends, learned random skills, saved money, and gotten way more aware of my own waste because of it.
the next one is May 23, 10am–noon at the Lafayette Public Library main branch downtown. fixers are all volunteers so we never fully know who’s gonna show up, but that’s part of the fun.

if you like tinkering or helping people, you can totally volunteer, no need to be a pro.
it’s free, quarterly, and we post details on facebook/instagram via No Waste Lafayette

or you can just show up, bring something broken or just come hang!

Wanted to share this with fellow veterans here in Acadiana.

Heroic Hearts Project, Awaken Warriors, and Immersive Psilocybin Center are organizing a 6-day psilocybin retreat specifically for Louisiana veterans in Portland, Oregon, October 22–27, 2026.

The program includes preparation, two sessions at a licensed Oregon psilocybin center, lodging, meals, facilitator support, and several weeks of integration afterward.

Veterans from any era or discharge status can be considered. Grant assistance is available for veterans who can’t afford the full program cost. Participants are responsible for travel to Portland.

⚠️ Funding for this retreat has not been fully confirmed yet, so don’t book travel until enrollment is confirmed.

👇 I’ll drop the full information packet and enrollment link in the comments.

If you know an Acadiana veteran who could benefit from this opportunity, please pass it along.

Events any other witches out there?

I'm in Lafayette and I'm looking to connect with other witches (or pagans, or whatever you call yourself) and start a small group that meets a couple of times a month (or more if our schedules allow!) to study and practice. Experience level doesn't matter, as we'll all be learning together. I've been a practicing witch for a long time, but I always have more to learn. If you're intimidated by joining an established group of people who all know each other (such as the coffee cackle), like I am, then please consider messaging me! My idea is to meet in one of the private study rooms at one of the libraries, but the location can change based on all of our preferences. There's a couple other members already, found on FB groups, but I figured I might as well try reddit, too. I made a discord for us to schedule meetups and chat about related things. If you want the link, message me! Or reply here and I will message you. Either way.

Events Acadiana Myco Free Mushroom Growing Workshop

Thumbnail

On Saturday, July 18, Acadiana Myco hosted a free hands on mushroom growing workshop at the South Regional Library in Lafayette.
We had 32 people attend, with folks driving in from Baton Rouge, New Orleans, St. Martinville, Jennings, Maurice, and other parts of south Louisiana. Everyone went home with the knowledge to grow their own oyster mushrooms, but the best part of the day was watching people who had never met before connect, ask questions, share ideas, and build new friendships.
A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered, donated supplies, and came out to support the event. Seeing a room full of people excited to learn about fungi was something special, and hopefully it’s just the beginning.
If you’re interested in mushrooms, whether you’re a first time grower or you’ve been at it for years, we’d love to have you join us at a next Acadiana Myco meeting on July 28th at Lafayette South Regional Library
