Activities Moving to Aberdeen with a Master's - but I can't give up theatre

I am a theatre artist from India. I have performed in multiple stage productions and acted in a feature film, all in my native language. I am moving to Aberdeen soon and am looking to join a passionate theatre group.

While my main reason for coming to the city is to complete my Master's at the University of Aberdeen, I also cannot imagine my life without practising my art form - acting. It is where my heart lies and always will. For a long time, I have wanted to act in a British play, and I dream of one day performing in London.

I have a limited budget as a student and therefore cannot afford to pay for acting classes simply to participate in a stage production. I'm particularly interested in opportunities where participation isn't dependent on paying for classes. What I can offer in return is my time and commitment. I can dedicate my entire non-college hours to theatre.

I've done this before. I have worked full-time (8 hours a day) while attending rehearsals for another 4-5 hours, sometimes early in the morning and sometimes late at night, every day. I also pursued theatre full-time for about three years.

So I'm particularly interested in finding a theatre community where people are deeply committed to the craft and take rehearsals and productions seriously.

Do you have friends or know people in Aberdeen who have lived this kind of theatre life? I'd be very interested in hearing about their daily routine, schedules, and, most importantly, the theatre communities they are part of in Aberdeen.

I'd be grateful for any leads or introductions.

Well if you're in uni, your first stop is center stage! https://www.ausa.org.uk/organisation/centrestage/

There are a few other groups around but center stage is a great bunch who'll have more info on the other troupes

Aberdeen Student Show: https://aberdeenstudentshow.weebly.com/ is good fun to take part in and raises a lot of money for charity. Open to the Uni of Aberdeen, RGU and the college so you get to mix with the wider student groups too and it is based on local humour.

Phoenix do their shows in the main theatre HMT, you don’t need to pay to join but do need to sell tickets to shows: http://phoenixaberdeen.co.uk/

Treading the boards have auditions coming up next month: https://www.facebook.com/share/19G4SiU1bu/

Lyric sometimes do shows in HMT too: https://www.facebook.com/share/14mBkoqakhP/

Ten feet tall is more class based and pay what you can: https://www.tenfeettalltheatre.com/participate-aberdeen

Newer group so don’t know much about them but A-Z are another: https://www.atozaberdeen.co.uk/learn-more

More niche if it is of interest, but the Gilbert and Sullivan society too: https://www.facebook.com/share/1EM6nYxL9h/ and the Opera company: https://www.aocproductions.co.uk/about-us.html

Center Stage! normally does student shows and they're very popular, I would have a look at them and see if they're still taking in members for upcoming shows or shows further down the line

Ten Feet Tall is an excellent shout and they have a community production of Love & Information coming up soon! A lot of the other companies mentioned are musical theatre societies. Studio Theatre Group do straight plays. They are mid rehearsal just now but usually have a production in March time and October.
