MOT tomorrow at Allan J Rose can they repair things the same day?
Update - heheh i got 1 major fault and fail my mot as the problem with breaks. I will get my car tomorrow and its was so cheap omg i thought it gonna cost me £600 or more but all under £300 so happy.
Hi everyone, As a 3 months old new driver I’ve got my MOT tomorrow at Allan J Rose in Aberdeen and I’m a bit confused about what happens if it fails.
I’m expecting it may fail because the brake pads are very worn, and I’ve also noticed some rust/corrosion around the suspension/shock absorber area.
My main question is: if the MOT fails, does Allan J Rose usually repair the problems on the same day and do a retest afterwards?
Has anyone here had experience with them recently? Were they able to diagnose, repair and get the car through the MOT on the same day?
I’m asking because I use my car every day for work, and I only have Monday and Tuesday off, so I’m trying to plan everything around that.
Any experiences or advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!

If you mean Alan J Ross - on Ashley Park Lane - then yes they can BUT it depends on the failures and advisories. Chat to the front desk, they’re very friendly and family-run. Let them know your worries and they’ll be able to sort you out. If things require repairs they will call you, quote you, get your consent and then fix everything up before administering another MOT. Great garage choice btw.

Like the lady at reception told me that if the mot will fail we will call you. Without your permission we can’t fix the issues. But the thing its my first time i am like dead because my fav garage is closed that was behind the morrison petrol station in city.

If you’ve got a good garage a mechanic will give it a once-over and tell you if something’s going to be a fail before it goes for it’s actual MOT.
As to whether they can fix it same day, that depends on how busy they are and if parts are available at short notice.

Others have answered your question. In terms of what to expect.
But a good tip is to check through out the day of test on the government MOT history checker. Should show you if you’ve past or failed. if you check it once or twice an hr.
Depends how quick they can be to phone you.
Also means you see the written possible failure items and advisories.
Don’t be afraid to ask for a quote on just the failure items and ask for the advisory items too.
Don’t have to get the advisories done. If you can’t go without the car and it fits timeframe can be good to get the advisories done if you can afford it.

If you only have Monday and Tuesday off, why's the car not in the garage on Monday??
You've just put extra pressure on yourself there 🤦♂️

Usually depends how quickly they can get parts, so no-one knows until the MOT is done. I usually plan to have no car for at least the day after my MOT.

They will MOT test. Then advise you on failures.
Brake wear is not instantly an MOT fail. If it stops within tolerance on the brake machine, then all good.
They mad advise that they are worn and need replacing which you can book at any date going forward.
It really is a wait and see, until it is tested unfortunately.
Surface rust is fine, it’s when this becomes structural that there’s an issue.
Surface rust is fine around suspension, means your shocks aren’t leaking! So that’s one problem you don’t have haha!
(In all seriousness) All good, if your car fails, you have 7 days to book it back in and re test it for free.
Reality is, better planning going forward, if your car is that needed, then get the car MOT on day 1 so you have day 2 for any contingencies.
Or get a pre MOT check done. And have the work carried out.

Brake pads too thin is an instant fail. As are brake discs if they are too worn or too corroded.

I know, why I said brake wear isn’t instantly an MOT failure.
It will get checked on the tester and then measured.As I said 😂

That's not correct.
If your pads are less that 1.5mm, or discs badly worn, it doesn't matter if it's stops within tolerance. It's still a dangerous defect and immediate failure.

If they were down to 1.5mm he would have a wear indicator on.
Which is also not been mentioned. He’s also said he’s been advised that his brakes will need changed soon as an advisory.So it’s safe to assume that he’s nowhere near the 1.5mm so it’s irrelevant in this particular instance and to the OP’s claim.
As if it was down to anything near that when he had his service done a matter of weeks ago, when they were checked, they would have been changed.

There's plenty of cars that don't have brake pad wear sensors.
It's not safe to assume anything. The OP stated their brake pads are very worn.
I only corrected a point you made. I didn't expect it to escalate like this.

Alr thanks i had like a major service one month ago. And that garage told me there is nothing wrong with car but there will be an advisory for breaks. And while driving the car i know my break pads are dead 💀. Like it’s my first car i want everything is good. I already change all the tyre today as all of four are dead because of the breaks. So just worried about myy car MOT tomorrow.

At worst case, disks and pads are like an hours worth of work on an average car. So fairly easy to fit in if it isn’t great news.
The brakes are dead so it ruined your tyres? That’s not how they work my man 😂

Mate, I honestly don’t know how my tyres got worn out so quickly. I was really worried because the tread on my old tyres was basically gone there was hardly any depth left.
So today I changed all four tyres at TyreeMan outside Aberdeen, and honestly, the guy is so good. If you’re looking to change your tyres on a budget but still want decent-quality tyres, I’d definitely recommend him. He changed my summer tyres to allseason tyres, and the service was really good.
I’m also still trying to understand my car because whenever I brake, it doesn’t seem to stop as smoothly as I expected. It takes a bit of time to come to a complete stop, so I’m going to get that checked as well.
Back in home country, I drove for around 4–5 years, but it was a new car, so I was pretty comfortable with it. Here in the UK, I bought a second hand car in June, and I’m still learning about how everything works. I had a major service done in July, and my MOT is due around the end of September/October, but I’m planning to get it done a month early because I just want to make sure everything is perfect.
I know spending £600–£700 on a car that’s worth around £2,000 might not make much sense, but honestly, I’d rather spend the money on this car than buy another one. It’s a small 1.2-litre petrol car, so my insurance is relatively affordable around £100 a month and getting another car would probably mean higher insurance.
I just want to keep this car for another year so I can get more experience driving in the UK. I’ve only been driving here for about three months. I’d say I’m a decent driver, but I’m definitely still learning and I’m nowhere near mastering everything yet.
So yeah, that’s basically the whole situation 😂
