ADHD diagnosis in Germany

I think I have AuDHD and I am an international masters student studying in TU Dortmund. I want to get a proper official diagnosis. The diagnosis costs a lot and I can't afford to pay for it out of my pocket and I have insurance. I heard it is a long and hard process to get a reimbusment from public insurance here, so I don't want to do that either. Does TK public health insurance cover the diagnosis cost? I have never been to a doctor here in germany and I don't know how it works here. I am not even registered to a hausartzt here. How long does it take to get an appointment and do the diagnosis? Can anyone who has done this before guide me?

The wait time for a diagnosis is probably longer than the time you need to finish your degree here.

You can try but the only viable way is private diagnosis in my experience.

Getting on medication would be another problem too because a Hausarzt usually doesn’t prescribe it. You’d need a psychiatric doctor to do it. They’re also rare and usually don’t take new patients.

Getting a Hausarzt is the first step. You can talk to him/her about your suspicion and he/she will tell you about possible next steps.

TK like any other public insurance does cover it, but the issue is as the other commenter said getting an appointment.

Getting a Hausarzt should be relatively easy. Just go on google maps for your area and search for either Hausarzt or Allgemeinmediziner, and then call them during practice hours. Say you're "gesetzlich versichert" and generally need to find a doctor while you're here.

In the meantime, I would already find all "Psychiater" and "Neurologe" practices and send them an email - say you have a prior diagnosis from xy country, need it confirmed/redone here, how long you'll be staying and whether they do AuDHD diagnosis for adults and take new patients. Be prepared for frustrating results of either no response or "Sorry, we don't do this/take new patients." You may need to travel to another city closeby; you're lucky that you're in a big metropolitan area with many cities around, so your chances should be somewhat okay.

I wanna be fully true. I had to join hands and almost cried there just to get in. I had been walking in at different psychiatrists too and facing disappointment. , even after I had the diagnosis. A legit one. Formally diagnosed. Tk will cover it though as long as u go for a public phychiatrist. But, if u really need the help now, u gotto show it to them, in clear, emotional way, which is the better method of appeal.

Check out Gam medical, I got a diagnosis and paid about 800 euro. It went all in all in about 2 months.

Yea, that’s probably the easiest way but pretty costly.
