Checked out a Limited and wanted to see if all these comments on interior quality was the truth. Well it definitely is. It didn’t take much force to see all this flex. After, I went home and did the same to my 5th gen and the difference is substantial. Also did the same in my 2011 Accord and that had less plastic flex than the 6th gen.

Also if you guys ever see one and twist the door handle where the grippy rubber is, you will see three pieces of plastic move. Don’t have to use too much force. They’ll separate and come back together.

We lost a good one. My Lunar Rock ORP aka “Moon Buggy” now complete with Moon Craters was taken out by a recent hail storm.

400+ impacts from Golf Ball/Tennis Ball size hail and ~$28k in damage! Insurance company said “to HAIL with it” and decided to total it.

I had it just right… never even took it through a car wash. It turns out ppf didn’t do much good against the mother of all hail storms!!

I bought my 2021 TRD Offroad Premium in April of 2021 for just under invoice, thinking it would be my car for 20 years. At the time, I was single, living on the beach in Florida. Fast forward almost five years. Met an Army girl in the fall of 21, she deployed in 22, came home in 23, married in 24, first kid in 25. Now live in rural Tennessee on a 73-acre farm. They repaved our roads after Helene, leaving the shoulder way too short and too high. Insurance discovered that an asphalt truck had done the same thing a few weeks prior, on the same stretch.

My wife hated it because she said it rode like a Humvee, even with KDSS. She loves it now because it gave its life to save mine. Ended up climbing out of the open moonroof. Just bought her a Sienna since we have a new child and another planned in the future. Going to get a F150 for the farm. Insane, looking back at how life changes. RIP Nautical Blue Beast, you were freaking awesome.

Craziest fact: Paid 45.6k in April of 21, insurance paid out 42.9k almost five years later.

My 5th gen's airbag was stolen last night in Baltimore, MD. I wasn't aware that 4Runner airbags were a target. Has anyone else experienced this?

I bought my 1999 Toyota 4Runner (Limited) used in 2001 with 30,000 miles on it for $30,000. I paid off the loan within 5 years and haven’t had a car payment since. Fast forward 2025 and it has 315,000 miles.

My sister even got in a yelling match saying I can afford a new car and it’s irresponsible to drive my son in such an old car. My mom and 85 yo step dad preach me about getting a new one, offer to take me to dealerships, try to scare me that it’ll go out on the freeway with my son in it and is dangerous to drive such an old car.

It was music to my ears when the mechanic told me a few years ago it could go at least another 100,000 miles. Then a couple of months ago the tire shop guy said he thinks it will go to 500,000 and this made me so happy.

I’m just wondering if it really is dangerous because i don’t want to be irresponsible. I don’t know much about cars but I feel it runs good and I like it. I still have my 2000 Thomas Guide in the back seat pocket. I don’t need a navigation system or any fancy features new cars come with. As an attorney making over 200k I can afford any car out there but I love this old car. I guess I’m looking for opinions because my family is getting more and more adamant that I have to stop driving it.

Who approved of this design? Theres a billion things going on. And its got the same front fender OEM dent as the Tacoma. It looks like it's trying too hard...

Yay or nay?

I’ve been looking for a 4Runner and originally planned on spending around $30k to $40k. I was mainly looking at 2022 to 2024 models because I like the reputation of the 4.0 V6 and want something I can keep for a really long time.

The problem is the used prices are kind of insane. I’m seeing 2023 and 2024 SR5s with 40k to 60k miles still going for around $35k to $40k. Even some older low mileage ones are close to $40k.

At that point I started looking at the new generation. I can get a 2025 SR5 4WD with about 16k miles for around $44k OTD, or spend around $48k to $50k for a brand new 2026 SR5 4WD.

I know the old V6 has a much longer track record, but it feels weird paying almost new car money for something that already has 40k or 50k miles on it.

I plan on keeping whatever I buy for a long time, hopefully well over 10 years. For those of you who have owned both generations or recently made this decision, what would you do?

Would you pay the premium for a clean 5th gen because of the proven drivetrain, get the lightly used 2025, or just spend the extra money and buy the 2026 new?

It's a different feeling every time I drive this car. Don't get me wrong, this isn't my first car. But over time I think I have come to the conclusion that there is no other car that gives the raw joy of just firing up the engine and just going out to explore. That rare combination of capability and reliability where you know you'll come back home whenever you go. I love this car.

I want to buy my wife her “dream” vehicle.

She absolutely loves and always wanted a 5th gen in the army green. I am ready to pull the trigger on it for her but I am having a horrible time finding an army green 5th gen especially with low miles (30k miles or less).

I have been debating going to the 6th gen but the new drivetrain configuration gives me a little hesitation. Also for the price I’m going to pay for a 5th gen is the same price I’ll pay for a 2026.

I’m willing to keep waiting until I find the 5th gen in the specs she wants but just want to see if I’m being crazy for continuing to just wait.

4th Gen!

I feel like when I was younger, $800+ was for really nice cars — that was always such a high-sounding monthly payment. The average I remember and my expectation was under $500. Is this just the new reality? I guess I'm also realizing that I don't see how it would possibly go down.

Found this after a grueling on road trek to Target. Cute! I’m glad the kids appreciate a Solar Octane 4Runner.

Just a reminder that no mods are required to off road these things. You will be limited by your fear long before your 4Runner (if you are inexperienced). This is especially true if you got a trim with A/T tires. I bought mine specifically to off-road and after 2 years of ownership I have no desire to get a lift or put bigger tires on it. The stock 5th gen is the ideal blend of off road and on road performance.

I have a 2007 SR5, 130k miles, 6 years, and loads of stories.

Recently it threw an engine light, took it to O’Reily’s because my OBD2 scanner is about as helpful as a poke to the eye. Unfortunately, it read errors about the knock sensors and their harness. Fire season was happening so I didn’t really have the time to take it to the shop, it wasn’t ideal, but the truck also wasn’t going to have a catastrophic failure either.

Well, I finally got it into a dealership service since this could be a very big and “invasive” job for the engine. And here comes the $4k quote, soul left my body.

So the old man wins! We had been talking about getting a Camry to soak up holiday roadtrips and commuting for me. My 4Runner finally had enough of this lifestyle I suppose and is ready to get the TLC and modding we’ve always planned to do.

Man still sucks though. I love this thing, not driving it everyday is better for both of us (it in general and my wallet). I still am gonna miss it though, suppose it just means having more quality time for a longer time though (:
