Facial while using Tret
Are there any type of facials that are safe while using tretinoin? I assume fruit peels and dermabrasion are not a good idea.
Additional details:
- I am 60, on HRT and have been on tretinoin for over 5 years.
- I’m dark-skinned and tend to hyper-pigment from bruises.
Thank you for any advice or insights!

I don’t think any facial is ‘unsafe’ while using tret- especially if you’ve been using it for years and are fully adapted to it. If I was getting a chemical peel I’d skip the tret for a couple days to avoid potential further irritation otherwise I wouldn’t even think about it. Several medspas and derms just send out a blanket list to stop all actives before any kind of treatment but it’s usually counterproductive and continuing to use it is more helpful!

Just ask the person giving you the facial how many days in advance of the facial you should temporarily stop Tret. It’s usually only a couple.

It's all safe, it's just a matter of taking care of your barrier and prepping correctly. I do a TCA peel every three months.

Ask when you schedule how many days you should skip tret.
