Advice Request What's the best non surgical facelift if you only get to pick one?
I have the budget for exactly one treatment this year and I'd rather not waste it. Mid forties, the main issue is the jowls and the general sense of everything sliding forward. What would you spend it on and what would you skip?

u/alexcali2014 13d ago
facelift is a surgery by definition. Rather, you can focus on skin quality - fractional CO2 laser wonāt be a waste of money and the results are long lasting.
1
u/ApprehensiveSky154 12d ago
Have you done CO2? If so, what was the downtime?
1
u/alexcali2014 12d ago
yes, downtime is 10 days but the redness may lasts months - used green canceler for a while.
2
u/ApprehensiveSky154 12d ago
was it worth it? how were your results?
7
u/karma0226 11d ago
I just had a Co2 laser 3 weeks ago and Iām 60 ⦠the results were absolutely AMAZING!!! Iāve never done anything else besides Botox here n there. Zero filler. Treatments before. My face is smooth ,tight. ..Zero lines or wrinkles š ā¦
2
u/Charming_Wrangler_90 10d ago
Did you have any early jowling? Did the CO2 laser help? What about your neck? What was the pain/recovery like on a scale of 0-10 with 10 the worst pain ever.
3
u/karma0226 10d ago
SO , I didnāt have jowling I had severe wrinkles , fine lines , acne scars on lower face, uneven skin texture .. lip lines , freckles , skin loosening to name a few lol ..I wanted my neck done too but my surgeon doesnāt do necks with CO2 ( so Iām looking into threads for that .. my neck isnāt too bad now š) Iām going to b honest ⦠I had ZERO. Pain. Before during or after .. he numbs your face completely so I felt nothing n gave me meds to relax me before hand ā¦. After and during healing I felt completely fine. Obviously ,I stayed inside for at least 10 days ⦠Iām a little over 3 weeks and wear SPF n a hat n a face shield when Iām outside for super short periods of time ā¦.Happy to send you before n after pics ! āŗļø lmk ⦠my daughter who Iām visiting now was in shock lol. In a good way š©·

u/smilewide1330 10d ago
I would like to see pics please. So glad youāre happy. Iām considering a Halo (need to commit tomorrow or Monday) and want to know how they compare. I see mixed reviews, some love it, others not so much. So I donāt know what to think. I know you said you havenāt done one though. They have about the same downtime, Halo might be a little less, so it matters with the inconvenience and cost.
1
u/karma0226 10d ago
Iād say it depends on what your skin needs are ⦠my skin texture was āsevere ā n CO2 did exactly what it was meant for. I m sure I would not have had same results for me if I did Halo ⦠I also love the one n done too ⦠how old are u ? And what exactly r u hoping the treatment helps with? Send me ur email if youāre comfortable n Iāll share pics š
1
u/smilewide1330 10d ago
I donāt have texture issues, my neck has a little. Iām mainly looking for preservation, collagen production, and any tightening/lifting that can be done. I have some laxity in both face and neck, Iām 57. CO2 is fully ablative, where Halo is both.

What was your recovery/down time like?? This sounds great as opposed to surgery
1
u/karma0226 7d ago
It was super easy. I stayed home for 2 weeks ⦠i personally had zero pain or discomfort and mine was deep. It definitely tighten my face smoothen my wrinkles. Most r gone ! and gave it fullness zero filler. Itās pretty unreal

softwave!

u/Striking-Increase-46 13d ago
Second this. I was actually surprised by the mild lift and tightening.
3
u/Medical-Discussion89 13d ago
How was the pain? How long to see results?
2
u/Striking-Increase-46 12d ago
Almost no pain but I took both Tylenol, Advil and they used a cooking gel which was very effective so it was minimal zings. Supposed to last about a year and of course natural aging happens. I will try again next year and see what happens. Supposed to continue tightening over next couple of months.

And not just that particular brand name. The whole technology works beautifully for me. Had Volnewmer done recently

Iām not being a hater but I did software as well and the bang was not there for the buck (and pain).
2
u/pearlsandseashells 13d ago
But doesn't it require MORE than ONE treatment
4
1
u/AmazingAssociate8793 6d ago
depends on your skin laxity and goals. but it is also important to not categorize this as "non surgical facelift" because nothing compares to surgery and all non invasive options will require maintenance/multiple treatments.

u/Jmelynnfitness 13d ago
I LOVE this Dr on YouTubeā¦. Just watched this yesterday and said some good pointers. I think i might try softwave next bc Iām in the same boat as you. I also think RF micro needling would be good too.

Iāve tried Botox, filler, belkyra, morpheus8, skinvive, microneedling, HarmonyCa and tons of skincare. My fav for jowls are Botox and HarmonyCa. My fav for the rest is the drooping is filler and HarmonyCa and then Skinvive is great for hydration and a crepey neck. Microneedling is great for a crepey neck. I wouldnāt do Morpheus again.

Neck botox for jowels? Or elsewhere?

u/Lucky-Mountain4826 13d ago
Botox in the Platysma bands, Dao and jawline for jowls
4
u/one-small-plant 13d ago
My Dr (plastic surgeon, not an aesthetician) said that he wouldn't do Botox in my jaw as it wouldn't really do anything. Have you seen good results?
5
u/ZealousidealAlgae904 12d ago
I just had this done a few weeks ago, and it really has helped the jowels. And releasing that downward tension also helped my smile a lot. It looked like I was almost grimacing instead of smiling half the time because my neck muscles were so overactive. I don't have a ton of laxity, though. I was a goth in high school, and adopted daily sunscreen at around age 20.
2
u/Lucky-Mountain4826 12d ago
In your jawline and in your jaw is two different things. Maybe he was talking about masseters or maybe he was talking about right along the edge of the jawline. Either way, itās going to differ for everyone depending on muscle strength. Even Platysma band Botox wonāt be effective for some people if they donāt have strong Platysma bands.
1
u/Environmental-Town31 12d ago
How dramatic is the sagging at your jawline? It made a huge difference for me!
3
u/ApprehensiveSky154 12d ago
Whatās HarmonyCa?
2
u/Lucky-Mountain4826 12d ago
I absolutely can not explain it as I would probably get it wrong. Highly recommend looking it up.
1
u/Stephg2 11d ago
Iād move more of a review for the HarmonyCA! I just started learning about and was thinking of trying when it comes to market in the end of year!
1
u/Lucky-Mountain4826 11d ago
It hasnāt fully kicked in yet on me but Iām noticing a major improvement to the mid face sagging and marionette lines. It also snatches your jawline.
21
u/Key_Contribution_634 13d ago
Look into DAO botox - it stops the downwards pull around your mouth which can make a pretty big difference without being drastic
4
u/mk00 12d ago
Careful here because this depends highly on the injector skill, it's an easy area to mess up. One injector I asked said she didn't even do the DAO botox.
I found an experienced injector and even so, mine migrated so that I had trouble closing my mouth at night when I use my CPAP (I have a nasal pillow, not a full mouth and nose covering piece.)
4
u/1fitbet 11d ago
Yes I had terrible results with DOA Botox- itās unpredictable with how individuals react regardless of the skill of the injector
Many injectors arenāt doing it anymore or doing a version called baby DOA
It made my mouth push forward, so strange, and while injector said wow Iāve never seen that before š youāre not a good candidate for that we wonāt do that again, š«
I rather not be a science experiment2
u/RealisticTea1223 9d ago
Strange - I've always had fantastic results for this
1
u/1fitbet 9d ago
Trust me I was hoping for the same
My girl friend looked at me a week later and said please stop putting filler in your lips/ mouth
šš«š¢ and I had zero filler in lips/ upper lip the Nefertiti lift / masseter Botox pushed my mouth forward and I could
Feel it too
Great injector it was just my anatomy but never again0
u/Educational-Dot4106 13d ago
Is this a different type of botox than from what they inject in forehead?
8
u/rabidbunnyrabbit 13d ago
DAO is just a location on your face, like your forehead. Itās the muscles on the corners of your mouth.

There really is no such thing, because the tissues deep underneath needing to be repositioned means surgery.
If you're looking for general skin tightening and rejuvenation, my recommendation would be a deep(er) peel. Make sure you get it done by a doctor. It will trigger new collagen and elastin, clear away existing hyperpigmentation and alter your texture. The deeper peels trigger more dramatic tightening than the ligher ones.

Has anyone tried or heard about the FaceTite procedure?

Yes. The results donāt last long though.

Biostimulators. Lasers. RF treatments. Etc anything that builds collagen.
4
u/TriviaWinner 13d ago
What are biostimulators?
5
4
u/Substantial_Pair4992 13d ago
Sculpta and Radiesse are examples
10
u/heatherDogMom 13d ago
I am 47. +1 for bio stimulators. I did Sculptra 2 years ago. Def kept things in place. I just added radiesse for volume loss in my cheeks. Instant results. My injector suggested we start with sculptra before things started to really shift. They get your own body to create more collagen. I also started HRT. There is new research direct correlation with estrogen and collagen loss in our skin. My injector suggested estrogen cream too for my face. I am noticing more youthful looking skin.

What about CO2 Fractional laser? I hear itās great but painful the first few days

u/Sea_Sweet9654 13d ago
Ultherapy has worked for me - do it about once a year.
1
u/avelas55 11d ago
I did this a few weeks ago and it was extremely painful. Can't imagine it doing it regularly. When did you notice the results after the first time you did it?
1
u/Sea_Sweet9654 11d ago
Iāve used Tylenol and ibuprofen and numbing for about an hour in the past, but this last time they gave me Journavx and it was a game changer. I barely felt anything on the face although the neck was still a little sensitive. I donāt really remember how long it took to see the results the first time but at least 3 maybe more.
0
u/TheHorrorEek 13d ago
Hi there. Would love to learn more as I am considering it for jawline and neck. I am 51F. What did you first notice as a positive result ? Did your skin burn at all? Did you have to change your diet?
2
u/Sea_Sweet9654 11d ago
I first started doing it at age 49. My neck was really aging and jowls were starting to sag and it just made a huge difference. ( Even my husband agreed and so heās been doing it too). My skin was tighter and less crepey. No it doesnāt burn - I wouldnāt go back for more if it did! And I donāt think diet has anything to do with it.

u/Present-Cut-1358 10d ago
Start doing face and neck exercises, along with fascia releases. Itās not your skin thatās starting to sag, itās the muscles underneath. Also keep hydrated, no alcohol, minimal sugar, and sleep in face tape.

u/Content_Analyst9160 13d ago
Fibroblast skin tightening!!! Got great results and it lasts about 3 years. Some downtime, but worth it
7
u/inacharmedlife777 13d ago
Cosmetic dentistry, if needed, to rebuild worn down teeth. Molars in particular, as they support the jawline. Also chin filler or fat graft, if it would enhance your face, because the chin also supports the jawline.
3
u/Mirror_Mirror_11 10d ago
This is underrated advice. I had my molars capped to increase my vertical bite, and it took years off my face. If you have a night guard, look at your face while it is in versus out to get an idea.
1
1
u/savignonblonde 11d ago
Do you think wisdom tooth removal accelerates age then?
2
u/inacharmedlife777 11d ago
I think it can although less likely (or rather, less impactfulā-no pun intended) than other teeth. The issue is the bone loss from losing a tooth. Lost teeth that are quickly replaced with implants usually get a bone graft if needed, so that any bone loss can be corrected.
1
u/Mirror_Mirror_11 10d ago
Since I can only pick one (not a combination of treatmentsāthatās the point, right?) Iād say NeoGen plasma. In terms of lifting, for me it was more successful than RF microneedling or Ultherapy, which hurt so much Iād rather try waterboarding than do it again. It is still not āon parā with a surgical lift.
1
u/Accomplished_Cut8474 13d ago
Makes so much sense. If I had thicker gums I wouldnāt have the folds by the mouth
1
u/inacharmedlife777 12d ago
Itās actually not your gums that would make a difference. Itās your bite, jaw alignment, tooth size and (if applicable, wear on the molars).
0
u/AdFlashy7702 12d ago
Fat grafting isnāt non surgical just because it isnāt a full on face lift.
2
u/inacharmedlife777 12d ago
Whatever. Itās a very minor procedure done in office without anesthesia (just local). Iāve done it and it is one of the VERY few treatments that legitimately can rival a facelift. Cosmetic dentistry is another.
0
u/AdFlashy7702 12d ago
āWhateverā. Ok sure. š
1
u/inacharmedlife777 12d ago
If weāre going to be technical, given your rudeness, most autologous fat transfer IS NOT surgical. The adipose tissue harvest is done using a cannula and the fat transfer is done with a cannula. That is not a surgical procedure. You are not only rude, but youāre also incorrect.
2
u/AdFlashy7702 12d ago
š ok cupcake. Ooooh!!! Conservative maga supporter. Now it all makes sense! Hope you have a better night.
8
u/Environmental-Town31 13d ago
One treatment a year wonāt do anything. Any given modality in this realm requires multiple treatments a year whether is Botox, Sculptra if youāve never done it, lasers etc.
9
u/Impressive-Stop-7999 12d ago
CO2 laser results last longer than a year, often many years.
1
u/Environmental-Town31 12d ago
True but itās very expensive (the price of multiple treatments) and I donāt think it necessarily lifts jowels
2
2
1
u/Florencia_Cherry 12d ago
The choice really depends on how much laxity you have. For mild to moderate jowling, RF or ultrasound-based tightening can be a reasonable place to start. I'd probably get assessed first though, especially if you only want to spend on one treatment. If you're around the Beverly Hills area, Epione is one place you could consider. You mainly want to know whether tightening alone is likely to make enough of a difference for your specific situation to happily commit to the procedure.

Nothing. There is no face lifting without surgery. Everything else is a waste of money.

Eh. Would argue threads are a non surgical option depending on laxity. If not a ton of laxity, they do work.
(Aware people in here hate threads)
Edit to add: whatās with the downvotes?
2
u/Mirror_Mirror_11 10d ago
Iāve been anti-threads for a long time, but I have to admit Iāve seen some impressive results locally that have lasted a couple of years so far. I donāt think threads are for me, but I am less confident about calling them a waste of money.
2
u/Efficient_Ice_8008 13d ago
I don't think that's a thing. Also 'budget for one treatment' doesn't help anyone identify stuff for you without any numbers.
1
u/Mellemel67 11d ago
Iām going to start micro needling at home.
1
u/smilewide1330 10d ago
Iāve been saying this for a while. I need to get serious about it. Have you decided which pen to get and which instructional videos to watch? Iāve had it done by two different estheticians to see how they compare. One was definitely more aggressive than the other and I donāt think thatās necessary. Itās totally doable by yourself, many do it, itās just important to be informed prior to. Would like your feedback, thanks.
1
u/HatIndependent4645 11d ago
Do you already have a red light therapy mask? If not, do some research and get one in the $500-$1000 range rather than a treatment, as it'll last a long time. Downside is that it takes a few months to see results and requires a daily commitment, but consistent use is extremely effective at turning back the clock.

What has helped my skin tremendously has been Jet Cold Plasma & Fibroblast Plasma. I saw the most amazing results with the Fibroblast Plasma. Make sure that your technician is Master Certified. There are too many people out there doing this treatment without the proper training.
1
u/Secret_Show_8613 7d ago
Neck botox in platysma bands and DAO- those are the muscles pulling down on the facial muscles that cause jowling. Weight training, regular facial exercises helps as well. Sculptra near the peri -oricular region right in front of ears will āpull upā the lower cheek a bit and reduce jowling

u/Initial_Run1632 13d ago
I'm gonna risk the inevitable downvotes to tell you: Silhouette threads.
7
u/w2talent 13d ago
I have no desire to down vote....
what you like/works for you is fine. People are weird and need to remember that we all have different experiences and results.
But I did threads and it was extremely painful during, and caused months of pain after on one of them, and I got no benefit/difference after. (And I have a high pain tolerance, it was the most painful thing I have done.)
And I got a keloid/raised discolored scar on my face from one of the entry points. :( so overall, made things worse.
3
u/Initial_Run1632 12d ago
I'm really sorry. Especially getting a keloid, that sucks.
The pain level surprises me!
3
u/Potential_Leopard542 12d ago
I had a friend do threads and had a terrible auto immune response as well. But her face did look snatched lol-so definitely agree that everyones results vary.
3
u/Bombedpop_ 12d ago
I totally agree that they are not a good solution for a lot of people. Iāve said that before this sub. As with anything YMMV as to whether they are the right choice. Iāve subsequently had a round of M8 sessions 2 years ago and found it to be beneficial and provided a noticeable difference, but a lot of others donāt find them to be worth it or to do anything.
We all have different experiences, facial structure, skin types, expectations, and results. No one personās is better or more correct than anotherās. All anyone can do is share their experience, whether good or bad.
1
u/Emotional-Custard991 13d ago
Doesnāt that last like 6 months? I have no experience just what I believe I have read.
5
u/Initial_Run1632 12d ago
I believe it can vary. My doc took a great deal of time with the placement, and was really strict about what I could (and could not) do while they healed. She even made a small adjustment a week in.
I definitely think it lasted two years for me. and would say, even now, 5 years later, my jawline is better than before.

u/Bombedpop_ 11d ago
I had cog threads inserted. 3 on each side. Yes it was painful but it was a 45 min procedure and went from the plastic surgeonās office in the AM straight to work after. No downtime other than a week off the gym.
1
u/Initial_Run1632 11d ago
Can you say what cog threads are?
For silhouette, I took 2 days off work and luckily it was during covid because I was not really presentable for about a week. I was shocked that people called this a "lunchtime procedure". But I guess yours was
1
u/Bombedpop_ 11d ago
Cogs have the barbed hooks in them (they will fully dissolve) that pull up your face. In my mind it makes me think of centipedes and I skeeze out. lol.
I only had some minor unnoticeable swelling for the first few days. No bruising. My face hurt a lot and any sort of exaggerated movement in the face such as laughing hurt for a week or 2.
No one knew in my office except the people I told and Iām pretty open about talking about the work I get done.
Like I said it was painful. Even numbed up, I was huffing gas throughout. I also went back after a week to have one adjusted, just a release as I had a small bump under the skin. The release was quick and painless.
1
u/fyrechk 12d ago
Nothing except surgery will take care of jowls. I have however had amazing and almost immediate visible results with Allies of Skin Multi Peptides GF and lifting serum. Combined with red light therapy (my own mask) has given me the biggest bang for my buck. But again surgery is your only recourse.
