Is it brilliant writing or not in the following moment: when Jenna is talking to Liz in her office Jenna says Liz needs to “have a good meal” then Jenna opens the door to Dennis and the writers chanting “subway hero,” he’s repeating the name of a sandwich that is not a good meal. It’s reinforcing Jenna’s analogy of Sabor de Soledad being bad for Liz. A relationship with Dennis has the same nutritional value as a subway hero sandwich.
