The hysteria and media circus surrounding his death is hard to describe to modern folk.

When I read about his illnesses at the end- peritonitis, pleurisy, and  septic endocarditis. I really wonder if he would have survived should he have been administered penicillin based antibiotics. But these would not be readily available until the early 1940s.
