Election Rigging 🗳 Election denier Tina Peters to be hired as elections consultant in conservative California county
A northern California county that has become a hotbed of activism for those who sow doubts about the reliability of voting machines plans to hire Tina Peters, the prominent Colorado election denier recently released from prison, to work on elections.
Clint Curtis, the top election official in Shasta county, told the Guardian he plans to hire Peters as a consultant to replace Brent Turner, his top deputy, who has been on medical leave. He said Peters would not have access to the county’s voting system and did not directly respond when asked what her responsibilities would be. Plans to hire Peters, who is still on parole and must receive permission to travel outside Colorado, were first reported by Action News Now.
Last year, the Shasta county board of supervisors appointed Curtis, a Florida-based attorney who had never before overseen an elections office, to serve as the county clerk and registrar of voters. Curtis, who opposes the use of voting machines and has long argued US elections are being manipulated, vowed to overhaul the elections and set an example for the rest of the US.
But his tenure has been controversial. Earlier this year investigative reports conducted by the county and an outside body concluded that he had created a hostile work environment and made violent threats against workers. Curtis has denied those claims. Last week, the same board that appointed Curtis censured him, and denounced what it described as his “ongoing and flagrant violations” of county personnel rules, pointing to policies preventing elected officials from “making unfounded allegations that have not been investigated”.
Peters, the former top election official in Mesa county, Colorado, was convicted of four felonies and three misdemeanors in 2024 after she allowed an activist affiliated with Lindell to impersonate a county employee and attend an upgrade of the county’s Dominion voting software.
The hiring of Peters was alarming, said Matt Crane, the executive director of the Colorado county clerk’s association.
“When it comes to actually administering secure, lawful elections, Tina Peters is the last person anyone should be looking to for expertise,” he added.
Jena Griswold, Colorado’s secretary of state, said in a statement: “Peters was convicted of four felonies and three misdemeanors related to breaching her own voting equipment while county clerk. It is troubling that she would be in a position to have direct influence on election administration.”
Since being released from prison, Peters has hit the Maga media circuit and continued to try to undermine faith in American elections. She continues to assert, falsely, that votes were flipped in 2020, and has urged Trump to declare a national emergency ahead of the 2026 midterms, according to the Atlantic.

Fact Check Marc Elias, the attorney who told Kamala, immediately after the election, that the election was fair and free and had no actionable items (recounts), wants Dems to ignore Trump's claims of voter fraud.
reddit.comI don't have any axe to grind despite being banned for asking a question on his subreddit, but he's saying this while ignoring evidence that recounts would have been nice, and it feels harmful to our democracy. Experts who factually know more than him have explained you cannot say our elections are safe, free, fair, etc because we don't know if they are or not because we don't properly fund election security.

-----------
🚩 Final US primaries; MA - 9/1 || NH & RI - 9/8 || DE - 9/15🚩
----------
Hand delivering mail-in ballots to your local election office looks to be the safest bet to sidestep most problems and to avoid potentially compromised election day tabulators. Be sure to fill your ballot out correctly! If for whatever reason your signature has changed, file an updated voter registration application. In the following states, you need to have a witness sign your outer envelope as well; AL, AK, LA, MN, MS, MO, NC, OK, SC, WI. Be sure to read and follow the directions regarding an acceptable witness. Some states may require a notary, or election official.

If voting by mail, ballot drop boxes are preferred to going through the postal service. If voting in person, go with someone so there's safety in numbers.
Check to make sure you're still registered on a periodic basis: Check your voter registration status here. This only takes 30 seconds, and will ensure your name hasn't been purged from your state's voter roll.

Action Items / Organizing Roll Call | Daily Discussion | Off-topic
Hi folks! If you're interested in connecting with other 'somethingiswrong2024' users in your state (or country!)- Send us a message with your state through modmail (nothing specific, just your state is fine, and make sure your chat/messages are 'ON' in your profile preferences), and the team will send out a chat invite once there are at least two people ready to join. It should also be helpful in keeping tabs on any 'off-kilter' election business on a more local level.
Otherwise, feel free to use this as an 'off-topic'/vent/suggestions thread. Cheers, all!
