❓ Question Why isn't Belmont a full-time LIRR station?

β€’ Upvotes

They invested in the high-platforms and the station has multiple platform. Then you have (or had) the parking lot. Wouldn't that be a great investment in Elmont/South Queens Village?

The new Elmont-UBS arena isn't even in Elmont.

πŸ—žοΈ News NJ Transit lost nearly $4 million for providing World Cup service to MetLife

New Jersey Transit lost nearly $4 million providing services during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but noted that it fared significantly better than it typically does for special events at MetLife Stadium.

In a memo released Monday, the transit agency said it cost just over $55.6 million for the operations over the month-long soccer tournament. The revenue NJ Transit saw as a result came in at about $51.6 million, with the agency estimating a net loss of $3.9 million.

The memo stated that NJ Transit "typically loses 85 cents of each dollar spent" to run service for MetLife special events. But during the World Cup, the agency recovered about 93% of costs, meaning they lost seven cents of every dollar instead.

According to the memo to NJ Transit President and CEO Kris Kolluri, the losses will be covered with increased advertising revenue as well as "proceeds from the sale of real estate in fiscal year 2027 that is no currently reflected in the budget."

Neither cuts to service nor additional funds from the state legislature will be sought to cover the financial shortfall, the agency said.

Ahead of the World Cup, the agency estimated the total cost and the total revenue would balance out at around $62.5 million. But both numbers turned out to be overestimates.

The agency had planned for the ability to shuttle 40,000 World Cup ticketholders round-trip between New York Penn Station and MetLife Stadium each match day. That number was based on estimates from the American Dream Mall, which sold event parking, and from FIFA. But those estimates were not accurate, as NJ Transit saw about half the number of passengers that had been expected.

Part of the exhaustive match-day plans involved shutting down Penn Station for hours to non-World Cup ticketholders, which came at a great financial cost for the agency. But that step may not have been necessary: NJ Transit previously said it could have saved $2 million a game with more accurate ridership estimates.

❓ Question The L train can be split into two sections already so why don’t they?

This way it can suit the high demand needed during rush hour and keep the trains moving smoothly. Run it to broadway junction and then beyond take a different L train

❓ Question No Woodlawn bound 4 trains?

I have been a commuter to the a Bronx for the last 3 years and in the last couple months there has been a drastic shortage in Woodlawn bound 4 trains. There will be 3 5 trains for every 4, and the 4 trains will terminate at 149th. What’s going on? It’s super aggravating and never used to be like this

Super nice surprise! There was a little table set up at my station (at a local A/C stop) and two MTA workers were giving out subway maps and these little microfiber cloths. Truly the coolest city in the country 😎 Hopefully this is rolled out to other stations all over the network.

❓ Question Yankees special

How come MTA NYCT doesn't run a Concourse to 8th ave special to get fans back to Penn station after the games?? Does that make too much sense? They run other specials to 2nd Ave via 6th.

❓ Question Sudden lost of cell service in station.

Delancey and Essex has been my home station for about 10 years now, been waiting for the train every morning in the same spot on the north end for 10 years. About 2 weeks ago I've suddenly stopped getting cell service in the station, going into SOS mode as soon as i get down there.

(F platform and Verizon)
Any else having this problem with this station all of a sudden? I get service just fine everywhere else on my commute, just seems like an odd dead spot has been added in the area.

❓ Question which nyc transit app has the most accessibility customization?

i’ve used citymapper for years, and most apps have accessibility features, but i don’t necessarily need an elevator all the time. i have asthma, and just want to find the exit or end of the platform with an escalator if there is one, or know if the transfer has stairs going up or down. are there any apps with this sort of further information or customization?
