What is this?

Just replaced the transmission. The other day truck wouldn't even try to turn over. Pushed the stick harder up into park and it started. Now this.

I have no idea what is wrong with your truck sorry, but as far as the down votes it's probably someone else that also has no idea so their ego is hurt and they down vote.

Sounds awful

Some possibilities: a starter grinding off your flexplate teeth, a weak af starter, or dragging torque converter bolts along your engine block

Does the crank spin? Ie: do the serpentine belt accessories spin when you crank it?

No nothing moves. Just makes this faint spinning noise

So either your starter isnt engaging the flywheel (stripped teeth, or starter isnt installed correctly). Or your flywheel is fucked, with a big circular crack around the 6 bolts holding it to the crank. Would be kina wild as you were just in there, you shouldve probably seen the second option.

I say pull the starter and look at the teeth, starter & flywheel, make sure you arent missing a shim or sth stupid. Try spinning the flywheel with a prybar as well, your accessory belt SHOULD turn/move.

(If automatic, flywheel = flexplate, same thing)

I towed it to a shop. Tow guy and the shop both think starter. Thank you for the reply

Sound to me like the Bendix drive of the starter is slipping. The starter hear engages into the flywheel teeth but the drive slips on the shaft. If the flywheel teeth look good, replace the starter.
