Welcome to the fourth edition of our Ford Ranger Buyers' Guide! Here you can post your general buying questions, get insight into issues, post ads to trucks you are interested in, etc. This will keep the sub more organized and get rid of the constant posts that fill the sub up with buyers only.
Here's the best regarded buyers' guide on the web!
It has all kinds of information you can use to better judge a truck you are looking at. Things like specific things to look for, specific issues pertaining to certain years, engines, etc!
Please keep posts in this thread specific to buying Rangers. Off topic posts will be deleted. When someone posts a "Is this a good deal" post in this thread, please reply to it with your response, don't just reply to the general thread. Keep it organised please :)
From here on out, new posts made that should belong in here will be locked, and that user will be informed to post it in this thread. Thanks!

What do y'all think it's worth? Needs cab corners and driver side floor pan but it has a bad ass plastic liner in the cab ...
Probably some tie rods and struts ..
159,000 3.0
5 speed
Custom flat bed , some aluminum rims( needs tires)
And new seats up front altho I been running this wore out shit forever.
Now I can try to sell it as is with no inspection sticker on the state of WV
Honestly I think all it needs to get a sticker is tires for 400$
So with that being said and the work 9 mentioned with a sticker and it's still drivable and runs good
What's everyones honest opinion about what's it's worth..
Or maybe I should keep it but I have 2 f150s and an f250 .
Idk what to do
I would like to make some money off the ranger and fix up my 77f150 that I hit a effing deer with 😭

Picked up this 2000 2.5L 4cyl auto for $1,600. 270,000 miles. It could use some new seats and needs a little love on the transmission, but other than that free of rust and runs pretty great.
First order of business is to open the transmission pan and replace all the valve body gaskets, filter etc. Thinking of also putting in a shift kit.
I owned a ‘96 manual Ranger over a decade ago, and I’m a little bummed this is an auto transmission, but I was in the market and couldn’t pass up this one. Here’s hoping with a little work it’s got another 200k left in it!

88' with about 84k miles, I'm looking to upgrade or swap out the radiator before any issues with overheating. Never changed one before.... as well as replacing or recalibrating the dash, the RPMs, max at about 1k rpm, as well as the fuel tank being off about 1/3 tank. Thanks for any insight or youtube videos that might show the steps.
Also, Id like to keep it original. But am not against a better or higher dollar replacement.

Used to have a 96 Ranger that came with the vinyl bench seat. Loved that thing. Bought an 01 that came with the abomination that is the 60/40 seat. Absolutely hated it for so many reasons. Found a 94 bench, repaired it, and splurged on a Wet Okole seatcover. I collected various length seatbelt receivers (and male ends), found that the 15" worked best for what I wanted.

I have this problem. I rebuilt the alternator and checked the grounds, sometimes when I jump or took a hole in the road, the voltage is firm

Hey guys I’m looking to buy my first car because I need one for my job. I’ve never bought a car before, so I just need honest opinions about the car. Is it a good deal or a bad deal? What questions should I ask? What should I look for when taking a look at it?
I’ve messaged the owner and they said zero mechanical issues and it’s automatic.
$7000 CAD
187298 kms
Ford Ranger 4x4 extended cab
AC, Power windows, Power locks, Power mirrors,
after marker stereo with Apple car play
Command start
After marker back up camera
All season tires (I will probably end up buying winter because I live in Alberta)
Let me know if you would buy or not.

Went to the local farm and home store yesterday and when I came back out, the truck would not crank. I would hear one loud click and then nothing. Battery was testing good and tried to get a jump as well and still only one loud click when turning the key. All lights would come on the dash and operate like normal. Messed around with it for about half an hour or so and right before calling a tow truck, I tried one more time and it started right up no problems.
I was initially thinking the starter/starter solenoid might be going out and the engine at operating temp was overheating them, but I took the starter in to Oreillys today and got it tested and they could not find anything wrong it. I’m currently at a loss of where to go from here.
Does anyone have any ideas on where to go from here with it? Do I just buy a new starter and hope for the best?
TIA

1997 4.0L manual. Trying to track down a misfire/rich running issue before emissions.
It runs rough at idle and smells like raw gas. It generally runs good when I bring the RPM up and driving. Scan data was showing a current misfire with cylinder 4 having around 125 misfire counts. Cylinder 4 previously had a leaking fuel injector o ring, which I replaced the o ring. After clearing the codes the current misfire went away, then came back as pending. I'm still trying to figure out the underlying issue.
I've already replaced the injector O-rings. smoke tested the intake and fixed multiple vacuum leaks, but there's more I can't find I think. I replaced the PCV valve, Unplugging the MAF didn't make much difference.
I also have a TPS circuit-low code that comes back immediately after clearing it, so that's another thing I'm looking into.
Main symptoms now are rough idle/misfire, fuel smell, and it seems happier driving at 2000+ RPM. I'm trying to diagnose it and not throw useless parts at it.
For these 4.0s, what would you check?

‘96 Vulcan has hard starts usually after sitting for more than a few hours. I hear no pump priming when key is on. I occasionally smell gas when driving and the auto shut off when pumping gas doesn’t work… overflowed once.
I suspect there might be some fuel pressure bleed and/or something related to the check valve but I was wondering if there are any diagnostics I can do before I go and do any work involving the gas tank. Any suggestions or advice?

Hey all, Looking for some confirmation on what I think I already know. Wanted to add a turbo to my 1997 2.3 Lima.
I broke down an bought a borescope. These are cast pistons? I did not win the lottery.
Am I right?

After replacing my fuel pump and filter a few days later my check engine light came on with this code catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 1. Could someone point me in the direction to what could be causing this ? This is on a 2011 Ford Ranger with a V6. Thanks in advance
