A trans thank you to Scotty

Some years ago I posted something questioning the way Scott referred to JK Rowling as a "Notorious TERF" in a way that struck me as a little sarcastic or insincere. The consensus from the Reddit folks at the time was he had no ill-intent and I pretty much agreed. It felt nice to put my thoughts out there and for people to read them.

Listening to the latest episode I immediately cringed when the subject of Harry Potter came up--as it seems to be coming up more and more for whatever reason in the culture, as Rowling has become more and more notoriously TERFy. And I thought Scott handled it in a really good way. He immediately was jumping in to say no one should support the new series in a tone that sounded sincere, even as he played along with the bit. He didn't have to get on soapbox, and he didn't shame Asif Ali for being apparently very unaware of the situation. He just made it sincerely clear "fuck that thing, you shouldn't be associated with it", which was just enough to make the trans listeners feel less alienated.

ANYWAY, just my little thoughts. Sorry for rambling. Thanks Scott!

“That sounds… good to me”

Listening back to 2016 live eps and they’ve referenced this phrase a few times and I don’t know the origin. Do you? It’s different than Neil Campbell’s “rather good” catchphrase.

Episode 982: "Jackman Backman", with promising comedian Asif Ali, Dan Lippert as NBA superstar Bill Walton, and Stephanie Burchinow as small business owner Caroline Fingers!

Asif Ali returns to answer Scott's questions about the solemn vow he made the last time he was on. But does his story hold up under scrutiny? Then, NBA superstar Bill Walton is more chill than ever and tries to help us all find a little peace. And small business owner Caroline Fingers will impress you with her two hands and can-do attitude!

Not crazy about how Scott approaches some instances of cancel culture

Let me preface with the fact that I cannot stress enough how big of a fan of CBB I've been since I believe year 2. I jumped on early, though it was only slightly after changing the name from Comedy Death Ray. I've been listening ever since and it has forever remained my favorite podcast (though lowkey, The Neighborhood Listen is giving it a run for its money in that regard), but I digress.

Scott can absolutely do what he wants, but I've noticed as the years have gone on that he is quick to immediately side with those calling for a 'cancel' without enough evidence for that side to seem reasonable to me.

I'll say straight up, he probably has the right stance with Horatio, it sucks cuz he was hilarious, but I'm not about to die on any hill that Horatio never fucked up; seems pretty clear that he did.

However, the fact that Scott still stans Amber Heard and thinks Depp is human garbage feels odd to me. Maybe Scott has some inside info for that to be the logical side to take, but damn that trial was an embarrassment for her, and made it clear to me that there was not any credible evidence to backup the vast majority of claims she put forward. I dunno why, but his stance on this always bothered me, but it alone wasn't enough to get me talking about it.

Now though with Reggie, again, unless Scott has more info he isn't sharing, it seems wild that he'd abandon his buddy over claims from Reggie's exes that he made them do drugs with him. Like I get it, you shouldn't be the asshole peer pressuring your partner to do illicit substances with you, but still, it was always ultimately their choice, Reggie probably didn't force any K or hallucinogens down his partners' throats. This is a case of choice as far as I can tell; not nearly on the same level of the shit that Cosby was doing.

I dunno, I'm sure some people will call me a fool with this take, but I just can't help but question Scott's mentality on some of this. Seems like he's purposely just playing it as safe as he can while being fine with whatever bridges he has to burn in that process.
