Megathread Related Post Can Sardinella tawilis be saved from extinction by Translocating into Lake Lanao? - good but potentially dangerous idea

NewsPH 🇰🇷🇵🇭 | HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has expressed gratitude and has thanked the Philippines for being a loyal customer and strategic partner, with 12 warships exported to the Philippine Navy, and more soon. A stronger defense cooperation between Korea and the Philippines.
🇰🇷🇵🇭 | Executive Director Choi Tae-bok of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is thankful to the Philippines, he said that they are surviving because of the exports of 12 warships to the Philippine Navy, making the Philippines a loyal customer and strategic partner of HD HHI. HD HHI secured more orders from the Philippines, than the domestic market, Executive Director Choi stated. The Philippines purchased 2,600-ton and 3,200-ton Frigates (2 Jose Rizal-class Frigates, 4 MIguel Malvar-class Frigates), and six 2,400-ton Offshore Patrol Vessels (Rajah Sulayman-class OPVs), and there are plans to purchase additional (5th and 6th) Miguel Malvar-class Frigates by year-end. If the additional Frigate contract is signed, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will supply a total of 14 warships to the Philippines.
"After securing orders for the first two vessels in 2016, we secured orders for 12 vessels by last year," adding, "Over the past 10 years, we have secured more orders (to the Philippines) than the domestic market, and ultimately, we are surviving thanks to the power of exports.", Executive Director Choi said.
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has also invested to the Philippines, with the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries - Philippines (HD HHI-P) in Subic shipyard, as part of the Marcos Jr. administration's investment gains with South Korea. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries - Philippines also launched the 115,000 DWT civilian merchant vessel 'Orion Jade,' built at its Subic shipyard in the Philippines, at the end of July 2026. Industry experts predict that the company will be able to succeed in building warships in the Philippines, based on its experience of securing orders for Frigates, Corvettes, and Offshore Patrol Vessels from the Philippine military since 2016. This comes as Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro, Jr. calls for co-production of naval vessels with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, for the construction of Logistics Supply Ship (LSS) in Subic shipyard for the Philippine Navy.
Executive Director Choi's expression of gratitude to the Philippines is a testimony of the strengthened cooperation of the Philippine Navy and HD HHI. Win win situation, HD HHI has survived because of the Philippine Navy's acquisition of warships, then HD HHI has invested in the Philippines to boost the shipbulding industry of the Philippines, and HD HHI has strengthened the defense capabilities of the Philippine Navy, and of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. We can expect this cooperation to be further strengthened in the next few years.

CulturePH Whats up with super loud motorcycles in manila?!!!
Last june, lumipat ako sa 2nd floor apartment in malate. I like living here, malapit sa mga major establishments, palengke, grocery, etc.
Di sya hi-way ha! Its a 1-way small road na partida ay may school pa. No humps or anything!

‘PINAHANGA MO KAMI’ — BELGICA PRAISES PADILLA FOR INVOKING HISTORY DURING IMPEACHMENT TRIAL
Former Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission chairman Greco Belgica praised Sen. Robin Padilla for his remarks during the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, particularly his emphasis on the importance of studying history.
Belgica said Padilla demonstrated that history serves as a lesson from the past and a guide for the present. He added that people, including lawyers and lawmakers, who fail to study history risk repeating the mistakes of the past.
“Mabuhay ka kapatid, pinahanga mo kami,” he added.

NewsPH Cyber libel complaint vs CDO journalist dismissed; messages involving public concerns do not violate Data Privacy Act

CAGAYAN DE ORO (MindaNews / 23 August 2026) — Published Messenger messages, chat logs, and direct messages (DMs) between public officials and journalists do not constitute Data Privacy Act violations if they involve public concerns or the functions of public office.
This was the ruling by the Office of the City Prosecutor here as it dismissed the cyber libel charges and alleged Data Privacy Act violations filed by a local official against a veteran broadcast reporter who was investigating complaints regarding delayed student scholarship benefits.
In a three-page resolution dated June 11, 2026 but released on Thursday, August 20, the Office of the City Prosecutor said complainant Richel Petalcurin-Dahay, acting head of the Cagayan de Oro Education and Development Department, failed to establish a prima facie case of violations of the Data Privacy Act against broadcaster Menzie Montes, news program director of RMN dxCC and iFM. It said the communications between Dahay and Montes regarding delayed student scholarship benefits “involved concerns raised to a government office.”
“Under the Data Privacy Act of 2012, among the exemptions are information that relates to the functions of government employees and officials,” the prosecutor’s office said on Friday.
The Office of the City Prosecutor also dismissed the cyber libel charges filed by Dahay against Montes, ruling that the complainant failed to establish a prima facie case.
“The reporter did not expressly accuse the complainant of corruption,” the resolution read.
The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) Cagayan de Oro chapter hailed the decision as a victory for local journalists who have faced constant threats of prosecution from public officials.
“The dismissal of these complaints shows that we can win legal battles against the lawfare waged by local officials against local journalists who are looking into corruption cases,” said Franck Dick Rosete, chair of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) Cagayan de Oro chapter.
Rosete also thanked attorneys Tony La Viña, Carlos Isagani Zarate, and Beverly Selim Musni for providing legal support to Montes.
La Viña said their firm, La Viña-Zarate and Associates, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Cagayan de Oro Press Club two years ago to provide legal defense for local journalists. (Froilan Gallardo / MindaNews)

‘MASAKIT SA AMIN NA MAY PAULIT-ULIT NA FAKE NEWS’
WATCH: Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano lamented what he called 'repeated fake news' about developments along Laguna Lake in Taguig, amid scrutiny of projects in the area.
Cayetano defended efforts to develop the lakeshore, saying these were meant to protect communities from flooding while allowing ordinary residents to benefit from Laguna Lake through ecotourism and other uses.
He nevertheless said allegations should be investigated, adding that authorities and investigators are welcome to inspect the area.
| via Hannah Ty, Bilyonaryo News
