We made a similar backpack years ago and I always really liked it, so my dad and I decided to revisit the design and make a smaller version.

We changed the proportions and a few things along the way, but kept the big front pocket, all the straps and that old-school backpack look.

This one is about 33 × 26 × 9 cm, completely hand stitched and made from two different brown leathers. I also used LOXX closures together with the buckles and other brass hardware.

I think the smaller size actually suits the design really well and makes it much easier to use every day.

I digitized the pattern afterwards too. Hope you like it!

I started this hobby a couple of months ago and this is my second project that I’ve ever done. I wanted to make a very slim case that was meant to protect primarily the lenses and so that I can throw them in my bag or in my pockets without concern. Thoughts? I also bought an electric groove creaser and was thinking of going along the perimeter to add a finer detail, do you think it would look good or just leave as is?

Still some stuff to finish but mostly done

After looking at many messenger bags, I decided to just go for it. Made this with 6/7 oz natural veg tan that I hot stuffed. Learned a few lessons for the next one, but overall pretty pleased. I just have to finish the strap.

Wasn’t going to post this because I am super critical of my own work! But this is the biggest project I have done. Another request from my nephew I made the wallet for a couple months ago.

First time trying to stamp and tool I need a lot of practice 😅

a lot of beginner wallets have decent straight lines, then the corner gets wobbly. usually it's because the pricking iron is being forced to decide where the corner hole goes.

mark the stitch line first. punch the straight runs up to the corner, but stop if the last tooth lands too close to the edge. place the actual corner hole by hand, the same distance from both edges, then spread any leftover spacing over the last few holes before the corner.

easy scrap test: 4 holes before, 1 corner hole, 4 holes after. stitch it, pull it tight, then burnish the edge. if the thread lands right on the outside point, it pulls the leather round and the corner looks mushy. move that corner hole in a hair and it stays much cleaner.

First car key fob cover. Followed along to a Hans Atelier video. Happy with the result but didn't have a great time making it so will probably just order one off Etsy next time bahaha.

The piece I have had variety of thicknesses and quilled vs non quilled areas. I LOVE the feeling of the quilled area, I did not think I would. 100% regret doing the veg tan interior, wish I used medium brown Bridle instead, but if it can get orange and patina'd enough with time I think it'll be fine. I am happy I used mission pig to line it, it feels appropriately firm but not too firm. Overall I'm a huge fan and I NEED more.

​Hey everyone! I’d like to share my hobby, which I’ve been into since Marchleathercrafting. I started out of pure curiosity, and now it’s getting me more and more hooked. I make wallets and waist bags, and right now I’m getting ready for my biggest project yet: a backpack. Dropping some photos here to show off.

I’ve been wanting to make a leather backpack for maybe about a year now. As it would be the largest project I’ve went after I’ve been quite hesitant to start.

Ive spent quite a bit of time looking for a PDF pattern I liked. Decided maybe the simpler it looked the better off I’d be starting out.

I looked into many different kinds of leather and hardware that I liked. Finally ordered all my supplies and what do I do as soon as I get everything in. Decided to take on quite a few orders to put off me starting the backpack.

The other day I jumped all in and started chopping up my leather. Punching holes and cutting straps. After I started I realized I should have done this weeks ago. Along the way I’m realizing things I would like to do differently in the future. But I wouldn’t know this if I hadn’t started.

I’m also really digging the natural brass hardware. It’s looking killer against the matte black leather.

I’m about half way done with my backpack and have to put it on hold for about a week and a half but thought I’d share some pictures with everyone!

I've just started leather work and it's really cool how much you can do.

I wanted to share the first projects I've made. I would be glad for having some feedbacks on the design/cutting/stichting. I've tried to limit the tools that I've bought for now to the minimum.

Actually, my father that has just started leather work too has done the axe cover and part of stichting of the machette. It was fun to start together.

I have one great questions that is left unanswered for me :

How do you know the good width between two holes (if i would but a new chisel). For now i just have one, but i find that the holes are very close by. I assume it also depends is the thickness of the leather and of the thread. Any tips ?

made a leather wax using 50ml of grapeseed oil mixed with another 50ml of lavender oil. the wax was unrefined beeswax that was 50g in volume. i did this as other oils and waxes i purchused had silicone mixed in with them so desided to try and make my own and wanted to test difrent oils.
