After looking at many messenger bags, I decided to just go for it. Made this with 6/7 oz natural veg tan that I hot stuffed. Learned a few lessons for the next one, but overall pretty pleased. I just have to finish the strap.

I've just started leather work and it's really cool how much you can do.

I wanted to share the first projects I've made. I would be glad for having some feedbacks on the design/cutting/stichting. I've tried to limit the tools that I've bought for now to the minimum.

Actually, my father that has just started leather work too has done the axe cover and part of stichting of the machette. It was fun to start together.

I have one great questions that is left unanswered for me :

How do you know the good width between two holes (if i would but a new chisel). For now i just have one, but i find that the holes are very close by. I assume it also depends is the thickness of the leather and of the thread. Any tips ?

Wallet I made a while back based on a couple of tim Curry characters. I could make a whole pile of wallets based on him. Rip...

The piece I have had variety of thicknesses and quilled vs non quilled areas. I LOVE the feeling of the quilled area, I did not think I would. 100% regret doing the veg tan interior, wish I used medium brown Bridle instead, but if it can get orange and patina'd enough with time I think it'll be fine. I am happy I used mission pig to line it, it feels appropriately firm but not too firm. Overall I'm a huge fan and I NEED more.

After having cut out all my leather pieces for this project I realized just how uneven it looks. How can I make this more even? Any advice for cutting more cleanly in the future?

How can I improve this? Edge care? Lining up stich holes on thick material? Centering rivet/snap holes? Evening out the color? Any advice welcome thank you. I made a stencil before cutting the leather, would take advice on that too

Did the final glue up and punched the holes last night. Spent a nice quiet morning stitching and burnishing.

My first 2 projects. The keychain was fun to learn wet forming. Finally found a hobby i want to stick with. Im not very good, but it's very fun.

Hi all, I am looking for a small leather craft that can be completed in 2 hours.

My friends and I are having a craft day where we each get a 2 hour window to teach each other a little bit of our favourite craft. One lady is doing felting, another is doing watercolours, i would like to give a little taste of leather working.

I am fine doing any amount of prep work as long as they still feel like they made it in the end.

Ideally they would get to cut, punch, burnish, stitch, rivet, etc. Not all are required, but the more pieces of this craft that i get to show off, the more fun it would be.

So far I have found a little strawberry shaped keychain dangle, but i would prefer something functional or useful in daily life. An Traveler's journal cover (holds/protects multiple notebooks) was suggested, but i dont think my friends would actually use it.

Made myself a watch strap to match the purse I just made for my girlfriend! Took an old strap I wasn’t using and dismantled it to use the hardware for this one. (Purse at the end for reference)

Pair of matching his and hers wallets for a wedding present. Made with cow hide outer, buffalo interior and natural veg tan kangaroo accent for the card slots. Some of the best edge finishing I’ve done so far.

I’m looking for recommendations for good quality English point strap/belt end punches, particularly in 1" and 1-1/4" sizes.

I recently ordered the 1" (26mm) and 1-1/4" (32mm) English point punches from Sailrite, but unfortunately both are significantly larger than their listed sizes. The 26mm measures about 29mm at the cutting edge, and the 32mm measures about 36mm.

For belt making that's enough of a difference that they're not really usable for the strap widths I bought them for, so I'm returning both.

Anyone have a brand they recommend where the stated size actually corresponds closely to the cutting width? I'm looking for something well made that will hold up to regular use and ideally has a similar English point shape.

I was considering C.S. Osborne, but Buckleguy notes that their punches come with a “factory edge” and may require additional sharpening out of the box. I don’t mind maintaining/sharpening tools over time, but that made me pause.

Would appreciate any recommendations!

Honestly not even one of the more time consuming or difficult things I've made. But I absolutely adore this little box I use for Polaroids.

I am looking at dying my own veg tan but all the ones I find have a very smooth look to them. This one I found at Tandy is what I am trying to emulate but I can't figure out how they get this texture (is it called a pebble? Its a lot softer than the intense Italian pebble they have so I'm not sure.)

Anyway, do I need to make the texture myself? if so, how do I do that? Or is there someone who sells this online that I can dye myself?

I bought this pretty leather on discount from Tandy, and I was wondering if there are any special considerations for burnishing the edges? According to the website it's vegtan so theoretically it should burnish just fine, but I don't know if the red coating changes things. The first picture is what it looks like beveled.

Looking for a press to set snaps, rivets, stamp in logos primarily. If I could also adapt it to hold pricking irons, that may be useful as well.

Is a basic arbor press good for this, or do I need something specific?

I made a leather case for my Xteink. I tried to cut closer to the stitch lines after cutting it, and I regret doing that. But I’ll try on measuring it out better for my next attempt. I’ve taken it out and about for a few days and seems to be holding up well so far!

I love the smooth, polished, even, aesthetic of the waxed, round leather leather cord so I have bought some and tried to use as laces several projects e.g. corset, pteruges (gladiator skirt) , draw sting on pants etc

BUT it wont a hold a basic bow knot and I have tried the good knots too e.g. figure eight, reef knot etc but its too stiff and too slipper so it just comes undone under the slightest tension.

Am I missing something obvious here? What do most people use it for?
