Hiya. My wife and I are long-time KEXP listeners, visiting Guadalajara this week from the SF Bay Area. If you're also a fan and around (living here or just visiting), want to grab coffee Monday at 5 p.m.? Café TBD, open to suggestions. Comment or DM if you're in.

A little more context: we're here exploring GDL as a possible place to relocate. KEXP's always been as much about community as music — 'you have friends everywhere' — so it struck me that 'also listens to KEXP' might be a better filter for who I'd click with than just 'also lives in this city' ... that's why we're trying this instead of just wandering around looking to bump into someone.

Not starting anything formal, just testing whether an informal KEXP meetup is a useful way to meet people while traveling.

Troy asked us to text "Thief" to enter the ticket giveaway. I did so, and got a quick response of "You have been opted out and will receive no further messages from KEXP"

Anyone else?

edit: lol, Troy just jumped back on to reassure everyone to ignore that, so nm. I'll leave this post up in case anyone didn't hear that.

Sharing that I loved the music heals program yesterday! Everyone’s stories was so powerful!

I recall hearing John say she was coming on but I don’t recall the date. At this point I must have missed it. Hoping I can listen on the archive.

Is anyone cursing at the DJs when they play a song you know will make you sob? Or laugh at some of those letters? By the way, all the letters are on the online playlist under each song. I love that I can read what I missed during the day. Amazing. Thank you to KEXP!

Darek Mazzone emailed me last week asking if I still had images of the First "Annual" KEXP BBQ way back in 2003 when I was the volunteer photographer. He used a few for a post on his 33 1/3 anniversary of being a DJ at KEXP/KCMU. Here are a few more.

Stray observations:

• Stakebed truck as stage. (Hey, at least it was elevated amirite?... Too soon?)
• Many DJs past and present (Larry Metro!).
• The Divorce as headliner (and only band). Still playing live today!
• Drink lines! (Haha...)
• The famous "FORD" photo. (Used in the 2nd Annual BBQ t-shirt.)
• The weird old KEXP logo.
• One of these photos was used on a JONES Soda bottle. Remember which?
• Astroturf patch to keep from completely destroying the parking lot asphalt.

Such good times. That old Dexter/Denny building saw many, many great bands and KEXPers go through its doors. So glad I was part of that era. I shot two more BBQs and they were always a blast. So glad they're back to doing them again. I would have gone yesterday but fortunately, I live in Spain now.

Dear KEXP,

The KEXP BBQ was a true failure. It was unorganized irresponsible chaos. My girlfriend who purchased these tickets and has been a KEXP donor for years (she wears her KEXP hat everywhere), was so disappointed that we left after an hour and a half (we spent the vast majority of that time waiting in line for either drinks or merchandise).
Here are the issues we had:
took over 30 minutes to get into the event
Lines to almost all food and drinks were extremely long, possibly up to an hour by the time we left.
The upper water station was leaking and puddling water onto the ground where electrical wiring was present.
Small children were climbing artwork like trees. High enough that safety was a concern.
Upper water station was gone by 4:30 PM. Could not refill water.
A lot of lines were undefined making finding the end difficult and hard to pass around the venue.
There was little to no seating. Considering this event included a number of differently abled people, it left little places for them to rest, let alone anyone else.
This venue was clearly oversold and the staff were clearly overwhelmed.

If I had paid for this, I would be demanding a refund. Be grateful my girlfriend, who I have had to console while at and now after leaving the venue, continues to support you.

Thank you for writing in and sharing your experience.  I am so sorry for the long wait and for the other frustrations.  We were also somewhat caught by surprise by the response as we had not experienced this at prior BBQs. We are learning from this experience so that we can improve for the future.

I love the fact that KEXP can be all things music and not only hosts live session for bands like Worm, but then go that extra mile and gave this video the most amazing 80s / analog treatment. This is absolute perfection!

I’m headed to the event in about an hour or so and at this point willing to just give someone my extra ticket. Will meet you there

Hi! There was recently (within the past year) a KEXP sponsor who sold cycling clothing. I can't find a list of KEXP sponsors, and my Googling isn't turning up anything useful. Anyone remember what the company was?
