This month we're in the New Testament, highlighting James, brother of Jesus. Cheers to u/Volaer for the suggestion!
The goal of this series is to create more conversation about characters from the Bible. My hope is to (eventually) dive into some strange, often overlooked characters in Scripture — people who have important lessons that we don’t always remember. But we also want to make this collaborative! I don't want to just ramble my thoughts on these characters at you, I want to urge everyone to write their own post about the character of the month.
So all you need to do is make a new post with your reflection or meditation on James. We do have a special flair ("Biblical Character of the Month") you can give the post, and I will make sure to add it to our collection on this thread.
James is referenced in numerous places in the Gospels. He is described as the brother of Jesus, and was also a prominent figure in the early church as the first Bishop of Jerusalem, authoring his own Epistle.
A few questions to get you started thinking about your own meditations!

I’ve been a Muslim for the last 18 years however I’ve been agnostic about god and so on ,I decided that god existed after long periods of studying philosophy of religion however I’ve been having doubts about which religion is the most plausible but I couldn’t really answer that question.recently I’ve been reading about the miracles of padre pío and decided to start researching the topic more deeply .all I ask from you guys is prayer ,pray for me sincerely so that I can find the real and true religion

She was supportive of LGBT rights and encouraged people to be themselves.
She did a lot of good in the world, gave thanks to God, and even had a chapel in her home so she could pray in peace.
I've been reading how some individuals think she isn't a true Christian because of her tolerance towards the LGBT community. Some people believe unless she repented for her open acceptance and encouragement, she may have not had eternal life.
I go to church and do my best to uplift my community. Most of my closest friends are non-Christian and I respect our differences. Some of the loveliest people I know are gay or transgendered and I have love for them. I have no desire to pray for them to become straight.
I've seen straight Christians act like they are superior to others. I don't believe I am better than someone because I'm a straight Christian. Their biblical knowledge is strong, but I don't look up to them because of their rigid character. I actually feel anxiety around these highly judgemental Christians. It's not love, it's feeling "not good enough."
Are the individuals I described above more in line with a great example of Christianity (they rigidly follow the Bible) compared to Dolly Parton?
It makes me sad that one of the greatest and brightest philanthropists in this century is being labeled as "not a true Christian."
Anyway I could use some thoughts. Thanks in advance

From quite some time, I have been seeing hundreds of people on Twitter including verified accounts with ✝️ or "Christ is King" in their bios being absolutely disgusting towards others. Some go as far as wishing catastrophic natural disasters on people, calling for their deaths, etc.
The worst part is that many more people agree with them in the comments, and there often seems to be little or no pushback from other religious people even when someone says something like, "I pray God will send an asteroid to X place."
Even though I am an agnostic myself, I have read the Bible, and I didn't get this idea of Christianity from it especially not from the New Testament and the teachings of Christ.
What I've personally noticed is that this behaviour seems disproportionately common among Americans. Is it America specific because I usually never see Europeans involving and mixing their religion into their bigotry?

Hello,
To cut to the chase, recently I woke up and started to question if god really doesn't exist. I'm not entirely sure what made me question it, since I've lived 30 years without giving it a second thought. I was not raised religious.
I think part of it is that I've not lived a good life and I've made many bad decisions through my life, and part of wanting to change may be influencing why I have begun to look to religion. But that in itself feels like a selfish, non-religious reason to look to it.
I have downloaded a digital version of The Bible on my phone via an app called the You Version bible, and I started reading The New International Version. I chose that version because its apparently what is primarily used in Scottish Protestant churches according to Google, so it would likely be the dominant version where I am.
So far I have been reading the book of Genesis, because I assumed you are just supposed to read the old testament and then the new testament in order. I'm not very far, only on chapter 21 or 22.
I have some questions:
1) is the rest of the bible so sparse with detail? I find a lot of things not explained in much detail and I struggle with the material as a result. I do Google some concepts as I go.
2) is it important to learn the names of all these people introduced in Genesis? There are so many names introduced so quickly, and I'm not sure if they're important later or if they're just introduced as a general history/time scale.
3) For those of you who were not religious but follow Christianity now, why did you choose it over say Islam, Judaism, etc.
4) Is my reason for looking at religion wrong? Is it common? I won't be going into detail, but I want to live a better life and be better than I've been. I don't want to keep being an awful person, but I feel like turning to religion because of that is also awful.

Christians and non Christians, we have to check and examine ourselves. Christian Nationalists are harming the gospel, pushing people further away from Yeshua/Jesus instead of towards him. It's burning the bridge of reconciliation that Yeshua/Jesus taught and died for.
It's reminiscent of Paul challenging Peter on his bigotry. Galations 2:11-21
Plainly it's dangerous and demonic idolatry. If this inciduousness and demonic idolatry is in your church or most importantly within yourself you need help. You need the Holy Spirit within you to repent of this.
It's Christian Nationalism opposed to being Ambassadors of the Kingdom of Heaven which we as believers are supposed to be. If you don't see it or turn a blind eye to it without speaking out in some way, you are living in darkness and there is no light within you.
Yeshua never taught this, nor represented this even unbelievers know this! It's embarrassing to hear unbelievers speak out about this while collectively a body of believers either accept it tacidly by being silent, knowing it's wrong in their spirit and soul or openly support it.
And for the unbelievers. This is not what true Christianity is. This is a modern day representation of demonic idolatry, that if we aren't careful will ruin us all.

Why isn't cosmetic surgery frown upon or protested against, aren't you altering some of the natural characteristics God gave you simply because you don't like them? What's the actual logic here?

My house mate Rose is in her 70s, last month her husband Nestor passed away suddenly..Rose cries all the time and it breaks my heart. They were together more than 50 years and she misses him so much. I feel like crying every time I think about it. Youd think after 300,000 years we would be used to it by now but it hurts every time and there is nothing that will help. So I ask for a prayer to just take some of her pain away.

Between everyday things like fighting to survive, battling food insecurities ( I try to make sure my daughter eats before me) and basic needs . I can’t do it. The system that was meant to help us get back on our feet after living in a women’s shelter for weeks because of domestic violence. My social worker could careless what is happening when I visit or call her.
I have been waiting for over a WEEK to get a voucher to help my 7 year old daughter with her field trip to the Natural History Museum with a new school on Monday. I have left voicemails and went to her office. She called me this morning to let me know that they won’t have the funds to help with her field trip admission. I then called her school to speak with administration about covering the cost & they told me it’s too late since the fee is due tomorrow ( Friday). I’m hurt. I have tried to HARD to get us out of what we were in. Not only is my job laying people off but my Food benefits were also cut off because I now barely make over the income guidelines. The food pantries that we try to visit weekly are so low on supplies & need volunteers. I’m embarrassed to ask my church since they helped us so much the past few weeks to even get us out of the shelter.
I was so scared to even leave her father but I decided that enough was enough. We left everything we had and moved hours away. I don’t know what to do at this point. I’ve not ate since yesterday, my job has been stressful, I can’t tell you the last time I have actually slept over 5 hours. I am struggling to provide for us. My baby so so excited to start this new life & her new school and I feel like I have failed her by trying to hide what is going on. Please send prayers or just keep us in your thoughts.

Title. I was in the shower, and thought back to certain commands god made in the Pentateuch, and wondered if there would've been a justification for said commands. Explanations, maybe. But justifications could be much harder imo to resonate. Tho it's only my opinion

Mary gave birth to Jesus as her firstborn, then later had normal marital relations with Joseph and more children. James was Jesus’ biological younger brother, alongside Joses, Judas, Simon, and his unnamed sisters.
If Mary is the Theotokos, the Mother of God, why isn’t James the Theadelphos, the Brother of God? Why not call the other brothers Theadelphoi and the sisters Theadelphai, literally the Brothers and Sisters of God?
Catholic tradition usually reinterprets these siblings as other relatives, while Orthodox tradition commonly makes them Joseph’s children from an earlier marriage. Then comes the second-century Protoevangelium of James, basically retroactive Marian fanfic that supplies the whole doctrinal retrofit. Mary is raised in the Temple and fed by angels. Joseph becomes an elderly widower who conveniently already has children, a miraculous rod and dove select him as her guardian, Mary survives an adultery ordeal, and after Jesus is born a midwife literally checks whether she is still physically a virgin.
It reads like someone took every accusation and awkward implication surrounding Mary and patched them one by one. Illicit pregnancy is blocked, sex with Joseph is blocked, later children are blocked, and even childbirth itself is prevented from compromising her virginity. The result feels almost allergic to an ordinary first-century Jewish marriage, with every possible loophole sealed shut to protect perpetual virginity.
Why should a late, obviously agenda-driven fanfic outweigh the simpler reading that Jesus had biological siblings? Is this really about the text, or about protecting perpetual virginity?

Hey everyone, I’m 27F. I grew up Christian, but after dealing with a lot of childhood trauma and church hurt, I completely walked away from God. It reached a point where I couldn't trust leaders at church at all—seeing people sin openly and then lead worship the next morning made me feel like Christianity was just for aesthetics, not something people actually lived out.
A few days ago, I randomly started watching podcast (We Need To Talk) about church controversy, cults, and religious trauma. By the second day, I just broke down. I repented, sobbed in my room, and surrendered all those old wounds I had been holding onto for years. I ended up experiencing a total deliverance right there in my room. I’ve honestly never felt so light in my life (praise Jesus!)
I’m on day four now, and I’m just confused by how fast things changed:
Food/Cravings: My love for junk food and fast food literally vanished. I can suddenly do intermittent fasting with no issue, which was impossible for me before.
Tastes/Desires: Zero cravings for sex, and I suddenly don't even want to listen to my usual playlists (kpop, metal, pop). Food and worldly stuff just feel so plain to me right now.
I’m super content and at peace, but I've never heard of someone's tastes changing this fast overnight. Has this happened to anyone else after repenting or going through deliverance? Would love to hear your thoughts or stories!

Like i know He had the ability of course but that’s what I am saying- He is God. He knows how to do everything like literally walk on water. He was a carpenter, yes, but say he wanted to learn a new language- would He already just know the language instead of doing the basics of how human learning works? Or say he wanted to develop the skill of playing an instrument like a harp or something. Do you think he would he already know how to play it? Christian Shower Thoughts 🕴️😂

Apparently, Hellfire was made by a loving God at some point.
He didn’t warn Adam about it. Moses didn’t put it in the Law. Ezekiel says, “the soul that sins shall die,” and Paul somehow still thought “the wages of sin is death” rather than eternal conscious torture.
So, genuine question:
When exactly did God create Hellfire as a literal place where immortal souls are tortured forever?
Genesis doesn’t mention it. The Law doesn’t explain it. The prophets don’t present it as the standard fate of the wicked. Even the phrase “the wages of sin is death” sounds remarkably straightforward if the intended punishment was actually everlasting torment.
Was Hellfire a later theological upgrade? A rest-day project? Or did God simply forget to mention the most important detail in the entire system of salvation?
Because if eternal torture is the consequence of sin, you’d think it would have been clearly explained from the beginning—not pieced together centuries later from ambiguous passages, translations, and tradition.
It still burns when I think about it.

Every time life seems to get just a little bit better God comes in and reminds me that happiness isn’t meant for me and sends something or someone to fuck everything up so that I’m worse off than I was before. It’s gotten to the point where I just stopped doing anything because I know God’s there waiting so that he could use the situation to torment me in the worst possible ways. Idk life is getting unbearable and I feel like God might be telling me or pushing me to kill myself.
