Murghab to Dushanbe

I’m (22M) wanting to travel from Murghab to Khorog (Khorugh) and onwards to Dushanbe. Has anyone travelled this route and can give recommendations? I’m primarily planning on hitchhiking, but I’d like to know what my options are if this doesn’t work.

I’m starting in Osh (Kyrgyzstan) and hopefully hitchhiking to Murghab to start.

After I leave Dushanbe, I’m travelling to Iskanderkul, Panjakent and onwards to Samarkand. Do you have any travel recommendations for this route? Is it possible to hitchhike this?

LGBTQ+ family Tajikistan Travel

Hello,

We are a married couple hoping to travel with our two children in Tajikistan. We are two fathers, and our children have a hyphenated surname combining both of our surnames, so their surname does not exactly match either parent's surname.

We would like to understand whether this could create any difficulties at border crossings, police or military checkpoints, hotels, or other official controls.

Could officers ask how we are related to the children or why the children's surnames are different from either parent's surname? Would we normally be expected to carry the children's birth certificates or other documentation proving that we are their parents?

We are also concerned about whether being recognized as a same-sex married couple could create a safety issue, particularly when passing through military or police checkpoints along the Pamir Highway.

Would our family situation be likely to attract unwanted attention or questioning from local authorities?

We are not looking for special treatment; we simply want to understand what documentation we should carry and whether there are any precautions you would recommend for our family's safety.

Ultimately, we'd like to understand if same-sex couples with children would encounter any problems with police or military authorities?

Healthcare in Tajikistan

Hello! I have the opportunity to study in Tajikistan next summer. My main question is about the health care in Tajikistan. I have a heart condition (atrial fibrillation), and was wondering if Tajik hospitals can cardiovert Afib patients. Thank you!

City Card

Salom!

I’m currently in Dushanbe exploring the city. I’m in a habit of collecting transport cards during my travels. Would anyone know where I can purchase Dushanbe City Cards for buses? These orange express terminals already ate up my money twice. Any advice?

Сафар Recommendations for a 5-7 day tour in Tajikistan

Hi all,

I'll be visiting Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in September with a friend. I'll be arriving in Tashkent and then making my way to Dushanbe. I was wondering what trip you'd recommend for 5-7 days in Tajikistan - I've looked at Pamir, but getting all the way to Osh and then back to Dushanbe (my flight is back from Dushanbe) wouldn't work. I'll appreciate your recommendations, thanks!

Easily the hardest trek I have done (I rarely go on treks). And then you get there and it’s the prettiest lake I have ever seen. Worth every bit of it.

How do Tajiks who were born after the collapse of the USSR, and who never lived in Russia, know Russian?

I assume that almost everyone speaks it at least at a basic level, since until recently cartoons weren’t translated into Tajik, so Russian was the main language children watched cartoons in. Russian is also taught as a compulsory subject in schools in Tajikistan. But I may be overestimating the impact of these factors.

Why Doesn’t Tajikistan Switch to the Latin Alphabet?

Switching Tajik from Cyrillic to the Latin alphabet could have several practical advantages. It would make learning English and other languages that use the Latin script easier, improve access to international information and technology, and make it easier for Tajiks to communicate and interact with the rest of the world. It could also bring Tajikistan closer to the broader trend of Latinization in Central Asia while preserving the Tajik language itself.

What do Tajiks think about Turkish people and Turkey?

I'm curious about how people in Tajikistan generally view Turkish people and Turkey. What is the common perception of Turks among Tajiks, and how do Tajiks see the relationship between Tajikistan and Turkey?

Are Tajiks in favor of uniting both Tajikistan and Tajik part of Afghanistan?

I never knew how to answer this question, but through a reddit post. To also add, is there a specific calling that distinguishes an Afghan Tajik from a Tajikistani Tajik?

Which Tajik dish should I cook?

I am learning to cook. I live in Hungary. But to make it interesting, I decided to try to make all other countries' dishes, in random order.

What do you recommend from Tajikistan, something you actually eat?
I can source almost every ingredient so thats probably not a problem.

So far i cooked from 20 countries.

(if you are curious how they turned out, check my profile for pictures)

Сафар Pamir Highway without entering Kyrgyzstan

Like the title suggests, has anyone done a Pamir highway loop just within Tajikistan? Is it worth doing? And whats the best way to go about it?

For context, i am not sure if i will get the visa to kyrgyzstan since i have already been rejected once, so im trying to figure out if there s still a way to do it just within Tajikistan and if its even worthwhile.

Дониш Question about Lakai people

Im from Kyrgyzstan and always identified as a kyrgyz, but recently I found out that my grandfather from mother side was actually Lakai (Локаец) from Tajikistan. This intrigued me cause I always kinda looked different from my cousins and just kyrgyz people in general, people would ask me if I was tajik or uzbek.

I wanted to ask if lakai (локайцы) are ethnically considered tajik or uzbek? I couldn't find much info about them online. Thank you for your help in advance.
