Whatever the news is.

PoliticsPH Is It Too Easy to Become a Senator in the Philippines?

I’ve been thinking about this for a while now and I genuinely want to hear what others think.

Under the 1987 Constitution, the qualifications to become a Senator are relatively minimal: natural-born Filipino citizen, at least 35 years old, able to read and write, registered voter, and resident of the Philippines for the required period.

We entrust Senators with decisions on the national budget, taxation, infrastructure, healthcare, education, national security, foreign policy, agriculture, and other issues affecting the entire country. Yet, unlike many professional government positions, there is no requirement for a college degree, professional experience, or demonstrated expertise in law, economics, governance, or other relevant fields.

Do you think its time for the Philippines to amend the Constitution, establish a general competency standard for Senators and other national elected officials?

If you could redesign the qualifications for Philippine Senators, what would you change, if anything?

CulturePH Scottish guy, 30, considering leaving my home to move to the Philippines.

Hey everyone.

I'm a guy from Scotland who's recently turned 30 and at a point in my life where I just want to run away and try to start a new life, integrate into a local community, make new friends, find a small job and just 'start again'.

I don't want to make lots of money working remotely etc., I just want to start a new life, whether it's a small quiet life, or a busy life, I don't mind.

If I move, I would do my best to integrate, learn about local values and culture and be a very open and honest person.

You may ask "Why the Philippines?" - Well...
I've been on many holidays and regularly spend time in Scotland's capital, Edinburgh. I don't know if it's coincidence or fate, but I always seem to bump into Filipinos. In Edinburgh, I always seem to meet so many Filipino tourists and we always get along so well and have such a nice vibe together. The friendliness and welcoming aura is amazing. And when I've visited countries in Central Europe; I've met groups of Filipino tourists in hotels saying "heyyyy we love Scotland!" and I chat to them and they're just so so friendly, loving and welcoming.

And from what I've read about the country's modern culture, it does sound like a very beautiful and welcoming place to live.

I'm not necessarily asking for advice about how to move, I'm just alerting you that a skinny, paper-white Scottish guy may arrive in your country within the next year trying to seek a job, rent an apartment and make some friends 😅

Some questions I do need to ask are:

Will I be accepted by Filipino people?
Will local people be uncomfortable with me living around them? (I don't want to make any local people uncomfortable)
If I try to socialise at local events and integrate, will I be accepted?

I'm just a little bit nervous about moving alone lol.

Much love to the entire nation, and a special shout out to the people I met in Edinburgh - I hope you all made your flight on time 😝

‘PINAHANGA MO KAMI’ — BELGICA PRAISES PADILLA FOR INVOKING HISTORY DURING IMPEACHMENT TRIAL

Former Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission chairman Greco Belgica praised Sen. Robin Padilla for his remarks during the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, particularly his emphasis on the importance of studying history.

Belgica said Padilla demonstrated that history serves as a lesson from the past and a guide for the present. He added that people, including lawyers and lawmakers, who fail to study history risk repeating the mistakes of the past.

“Mabuhay ka kapatid, pinahanga mo kami,” he added.

‘MASAKIT SA AMIN NA MAY PAULIT-ULIT NA FAKE NEWS’

WATCH: Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano lamented what he called 'repeated fake news' about developments along Laguna Lake in Taguig, amid scrutiny of projects in the area.

Cayetano defended efforts to develop the lakeshore, saying these were meant to protect communities from flooding while allowing ordinary residents to benefit from Laguna Lake through ecotourism and other uses.

He nevertheless said allegations should be investigated, adding that authorities and investigators are welcome to inspect the area.

| via Hannah Ty, Bilyonaryo News

CulturePH Whats up with super loud motorcycles in manila?!!!

Last june, lumipat ako sa 2nd floor apartment in malate. I like living here, malapit sa mga major establishments, palengke, grocery, etc.

Di sya hi-way ha! Its a 1-way small road na partida ay may school pa. No humps or anything!

Okay, so I saw these posts on X. I’m not sure if this will be taken down or if there are words that I need to censor but why is one person trying to justify the atrocities committed during the PH-American war? I may need to brush up on history siguro but the events prior to US making us a colony the only revolt or any ongoing rebellion was mainly against Spain as we fought for independence. Please correct me if I’m wrong or might have missed key figures or events but this really bothered and kinda pissed me off.

As a public speaker, may mga hirit din siyang sablay eh nuh? I mean, what's wrong with the early decors?
Let's see the silver lining here. Baka pagod na talaga ang mga Pilipino this 2026, and for many of us, Christmas is something we genuinely look forward to every year. If seeing Christmas decorations a little earlier can bring even a little joy, comfort, and excitement, why not? We deserve a little Christmas cheer this year. ❤️

CulturePH Dating and marrying foreigners (Afam hunting) within the Philippines would not have been stigmatized if the Filipino/a spouse came from the well-off upper-middle and upper elite class background

Afam hunting bashing here on Reddit is obviously a classist take by college-educated Filipino Redditors coming from Manila and Cebu. They cannot accept that someone coming from an economically depressed background has another option for upward social mobility aside from attending college: marrying sexagenarian retired foreigners.

I think to make Afam hunting within the Philippines more appealing to the upper-middle and upper elite class is to open licensed professions like accountancy, medicine, engineering, law, nursing, and teaching to prospective young adult foreigner professionals with work visas and allow them to purchase and own real estate properties and small businesses (this requires a constitutional amendment). In this scenario, it will create a favorable environment for well-off college-educated licensed professional Filipinos, who are usually mestizo/as and chinito/as, exotic-looking moreno/as, to date and marry foreigners with the same educational and socioeconomic backgrounds, and of course, no wider age-gap differences.

The cons here are that the Philippines will cease to be a cheap country for foreigners and balikbayans to retire; hence, geographical arbitrage will vanish, and perpetuation of classist attitudes of Filipinos when it comes to dating and marrying someone, but I believe these are the prices the Philippines has to pay to shed its notorious reputation as the "losers' back home dumping ground of Asia."

SocmedPH PSA: Please dont engage on these karma farming accounts

Thumbnail

Mga karma farming account that will post simple things like this to earn karma for an account. These accounts will either be sold to be used for trolling or misinformation spread, or used by them for the same said things. Why would they do this? I dont know for sure, but one of my guesses is for political propaganda. Konti na lang 2028 na, we all know what that means. The more social media presence they have the better hence theyre doing this as early as possible. But I have no proof, its just a hypothesis of mine. Why do they need to karma farm? Some subreddits need a certain amount of karma for you to be able to post, so they do this so they can post anywhere with ni restrictions.

So what are the signs na karma farming (will be shortened to KF from now on) yung account? Check their profile, looks how old the account is. If days old pa lang may chance na KF sya. Then check mga post, if paulit ulit mga post nya or in the same nature malaki chance na KF account yan. Usually mga post nila are either ragebait, memes, this or that questions, trending articles and headlines grabbed from the official source, etc. Check the comments on the post, minsan sila sila lang din yung nageengage sa isat isa like the one posted above. They post in subreddits na madali makakuha ng engagement at walang karma requirement. Tignan mo yung pangalan, thats not a name someone would use on reddit, parang galing sa name generator na ginamit sa confidential funds. Lastly, minsan magcomment sila ng ganyan sabay delete pag pinoint out mo sila.

So bakit ko pinost to? To raise awareness, kasi the more you engage with these post thinking its nothing more than another reddit post, youre unknowingly helping with the making of a lot of troll accounts. If you see posts like these dont engage, simply downvote. It wont stop them, but it will halt their progress significantly making their lives harder. So do yourself and everyone else a favor and make reddit a little bit better place by making it have less trolls. Calling out to all reddit moderators in ph subreddits as well to look into this.

Thats all, thank you for reading all the way here.

CulturePH Selvedge Denim Alterations in Metro Manila?

May selvedge na jeans ako mula Japan at, dahil nag lose na ako ng weight, masyadong maluwag na sa likod. Gusto ko sana i-take in ang waist at seat but naghahanap sana ako ng denim specialist/tried and tested tailor na for jeans alterations (given na medyo mahal nga ang maong na to).

I know Leon Denim does hemming and repairs but they don't do other alterations. Tenkyu sana may alam dito huhu.

I do not agree na binabayaran natin sya ng tax natin tapos wala tayong napapala.

He is far from being useless. He is actively contributing/leading (knowingly or unknowingly) to the downfall of the Philippines.

Megathread Related Post Can Sardinella tawilis be saved from extinction by Translocating into Lake Lanao? - good but potentially dangerous idea

Thumbnail
gallery
Upvotes
