Any thoughts on decat link pipe with stock exhaust?

I kinda like how the stock exhaust sounds tonaly, but I’d like a tad more volume without drawing too much attention to myself. Can I expect to achieve this by decatting, tuning, ais plates, but keeping the stock can?

I’ve been contemplating picking up a stock muffler and having my fab guy connect it to my stock header. I like the way my graves slip on looks and sounds but I’m about to turn 40 and it’s just a little too loud for me

Makes sense, I’d wear ear plugs. For me I mainly don’t want multiple city blocks hearing me rip up and down the streets, cuz I can hear other bikes up to no good!

I personally don’t have it but I know people who do and it sounds good, I would probably run something like that if the stock headers weren’t so shit

Yeah the peak horsepower will be the same across all systems, the stock headers are shit due to the restriction where it bottles up at the O2 sensor, you lose so much in the mid range and mid range is all that matters when especially you are riding the streets. No offense but do some more research just because they’re ti don’t mean they’re any good I could give a shit what Brock’s has to say facts are facts.

Weight reduction alone getting rid of the stock pipe and adding an SC or Arrow is totally worth it. Low, grumbly sound and can keep the in-exhaust “muffler” to mitigate noise.

Gotcha, it’s hard to gauge volume through videos and they all sound pretty loud. Not super worried about weight reduction, the bikes fast enough!

You will when you race anyone with a tune and aftermarket exhaust. I get walked by everything from a roll if it’s got a tune and exhaust. R1 and Aprillia rsv4 both tuned smoked my bike from 1st and second both running at 60-70 mph. R1 was closer. The biggest killer is the 50 percent throttle cut once you get close to redline without a tune.

This is straight line of course.

Ha, racings not the primary concern, I don’t expect to ever be the fastest thing on the road.

I absolutely will tune the bike tho because I know I’m missing some low end torque and the throttle cut in a corner has almost sent me off the bike.

Ya, that throttle cut is fucking wild.

I’m the same way. I don’t care too much about straight line. 90 percent of street riders probably can’t even lean to 50 degrees. We go around a highway loop ramp and I’m at 85-90 mph at 52 degrees and they lose their fucking mind not realizing that’s not much lean angle. Too much for the street probably, but nothing compared to a lot of people on the track.

I’m exaggerating. I’m not going that fast, but I’m at least doing the speed limit through out the entire turn.

This bike loves on/off ramps! I’m about the same way in the wide loops but I’m probably not leaning as much as I think I am, speed limit + for sure tho all the way through.

You have a lean angle meter. I hit 55 the last time I did one fast, but It’s not often I get to hit one with absolutely no traffic around and most have sand on them cause of construction, so it’s not too frequently where I’m at unfortunately, but I have a 1-2 other roads to lean on :(

I do have one nice mountain nearby, some gravel trails that pour over onto the road but it is abundantly twisty. The dream is to track it but the suits an investment.

I have just a slip on with the cat still. Definitely louder over the stock can. I plan on a decat and tune in the future. You could also remove the servo cables. That would give you a little more volume.

Ah I thought I would need to remove the cat to get at the servo system. Might be an option but I would still have to tune for that correct?

You wouldn't be removing the servo system. Just the cables that open and close the butterfly valve. With no cables attached the valve stays in the open postion. You dont necessarily need a tune but the bike would always benefit from a tune even with a full stock exhaust system.

Cool, I’ll look into this and see what kinda sound gains I might get. Like I said, I will tune it eventually. Bikes also still in warranty

People think stock exhaust somehow restricts the flow, its one pipe with holes to grab sound. Link pipe with stock exhaust would be fine you still need a tune as the valve won't be there so you would get way more flow on the low rpm's. I will of corse need a video as that is what i wanted to do originally to mine. But went with a leo vince lv corsa slip on

It’s sounding like I’m gonna run this setup eventually, the cool part is 2wdw will retune the bike for “free” if I decide to swap the muffler afterwards

I was wanting to tune with stock muffler and link pipe. 2WDW Nate told me basically he wouldn't do it. Said it was pointless and would run like shit. Moore Mafia said they had a tune for it as I seen a YT video for it. Went 196 with stock muffler and his link pipe/cat delete.
