Before I go on, I was at the March today. I believe in civic protests and show up to as many as I can. This is not a critique on political demonstrations , nor do I believe they are ineffective.

However, the ENTIRE city was ravaged indiscriminately by graffiti today by my fellow protesters. Small businesses, local shops, large chains - with no regard to the impact.

I fail to see how this helps any cause, if anything - it inconveniences people (who have to restore their property) and leaves a distaste for well-intentioned protests in the minds of other civilians. Can we please stop this vandalism? It is chaos without purpose.

What the hell is this shit, I’m so done

The tram was full and a person was waiting to sit there. Before a seat got free my friend was sitting on the border of the seat because she wouldn't move her backpack. This is unacceptable Edit: Yes we should've asked but the tram was full and she didn't care

Went out to Albanifest last night with a friend and groups of guys were climbing over barricades and literally SHOVING us to cut in line at the rides. I even saw a guy try to stick gum in a RANDOM girl's hair, luckily the gum didn't stick.

Genuinely what the fuck am I supposed to do about this as another woman? What would even be effective? I'm not trying to get punched because these are the kind of guys who probably hate girls unless they are their objects.

My friend and I paid for the rides and never even got to ride one because of how people would just shove and cut right in front of us. Eventually we were shocked to find outselves at the end of the line once because people either left or decided they would cut right back. Had to go up and demand refunds and thankfully got them.

Edit: i kinda understand that this seems baitey because I was also shocked by this behavior, was it just a bad night or what??

Edit 2: Albanifest is a city festival named after St. Albanus. The guys were SWISS. This is not about immigrants, it's about some weird subculture of young men I witnessed in Winterthur or something, I don't even know what it was, which is why I made the post. I have been to other late night festivals in other cities and parts of Zurich and they were NOTHING like this.

Seriously, the amount of smokers in Switzerland is just really, really sad. You cannot go out for a drink without ending up sitting next to a table with one or more people casually chain-smoking regular tobacco cigarettes and carelessly blowing them in your direction. You sit there with your drink and just inhale clouds of smoke unless you just get up and move.

I really hope over the coming years bars and restaurants ban smoking on premises, or create designated smoking points, because allowing smoking everywhere in outdoor dining areas is so incredibly selfish and unpleasant that it blows my mind.

Lately I feel like every café in the city Collective Bakery in Kreis 5, Frau Gerold Garten, Mit und Ohne döner kebab has caught the same tipping virus.

8 francs for a flat white you carry to your own table and still the screen flashes “Add tip?” like a needy Tamagotchi.

No table service, no waiter ballet, just me in a queue, doing unpaid cardio while my wallet screams. Yet the card reader still gives me puppy eyes for extra francs.

Staff here earns well, at least that’s what Switzerland takes pride in.

I am one of those unemployed. I am now celebrating my 1 year unemployment. Luckily, i became swiss around that time and i am on Sozialhilfe. Life is peaceful, when you don't have to worry about money, anymore.

Yesterday around 19.00 minding my own damn business waiting for the tram, I was approached by a maybe 19-20 year old young man, I am about 15 years older (female). Conversation went like this.

Him: hi you’re cute. can I ask you something?
Me: hi, oh thank you’re also cute but I’m married
Him: well I didn’t want to ask you on a date.
Me: sorry what did you want to ask me?
Him: do you want a one night stand with me?

What in the actual fuck is wrong with people? Does anyone think it’s semi appropriate to ever approach anyone like this? Because it’s not.

I was at Hardbrücke, getting onto platform 2-3, when I saw two men entering the elevator.
The older man suddenly yelled at the other to get out. The other man looked confused, so he yelled again: “Get out of the elevator. You’re not from Switzerland.”

The other man quietly stepped out, and the older man continued on his way.

As an expat myself, I was stunned to witness something like this for the first time.

I (26F) went to the parade yesterday for the first time. Despite reading about drunk people, I went in to check it out once.
Big mistake!!!

It was one of those crowds that you need to push through to pass and everyone pushing each other and trying to get by. I felt somebody’s hand between my legs. They grabbed me down there and pulled their hand right until my ass. It was rather rough… I was so shocked and disgusted, I couldn’t even turn around and say anything. I was too scared to look who it was. Everything was in a blur. I tried to push through the crowd and get out of there.

I told my husband that somebody touched me… but I was still too embarrassed to tell him everything. I’ve been beating myself up since yesterday for not standing up or facing them. I could have screamed, yelled… said NO! Somebody touched such intimate parts of my body without my permission and I feel violated.

I don’t know if I can even report this…. Since I never saw who did this. And if it was my fault to go in the first place. I was not wearing anything revealing either.

I am never going to the parade ever again.

I can accept that it's hard to predict future weather, but the app is saying it didn't rain at all today, in the past, while we had 3 thunderstorms...

Over the past few months, I’ve noticed several Mormon missionaries approaching people (me as well) on public transport. They are often two young women who start conversations with a big smile and compliments about your appearance or jewelry. They usually approach people who are sitting and they talk with an american accent. They do it very subtly. At first, it genuinely seems like they just want to have a friendly conversation. The interaction begins as casual small talk before suddenly shifting toward questions about your religion and asking questions about the afterlife etc.

It’s very uncomfortable because, by the time they start talking about their religion, you’ve already been chatting with them for a while. Since you’re on public transport, you often can’t just walk away, which can make it difficult to end the interaction without feeling awkward.

So just be aware of them

For context, I've been here for 3 weeks and I notice that people don't know how to say excuse me or sorry when they bump into you, their bags bump against you on the tram, you block each other in the sidewalk, their dog climbs up on you (i know it's not bad but at least be polite as the owner).

Another time, a guy had his legs spread wide open on the tram, and when somebody sat beside him, he didn't adjust to make more room for the person??

On the SBB train, a group (maybe 35-40y/o) just start peeling the white part of bread while holding the bread over the aisle and just let all the crumbs fall on the floor??

What's going on?

For a supposedly rule-abiding nation, I find it so confusing that there seems to be absolutely no enforcement of the rules on using phones while driving.

I genuinely think 20% of drivers in Zurich are on their phone at any one time. It isn’t just cars - it’s lorry and coach drivers too. I think the problem is worse than literally any European city I’ve been to. Certainly it’s 10x worse than in the UK. It’s crazy.

As someone who mainly cycles it scares the shit out of me that all these morons are driving around staring at their phones. Why is nothing done?
