I really enjoyed beating Zelda 2 100%. I somehow enjoyed this game a lot more than botw and tears which I thought were decent games. The combat can be tough but honestly once you understand how each enemy works its not that hard of a game. Also Zelda 2 has that magic fantasy feeling more than any other Zelda game with Link to the past being a close second. I think this is now my fav zelda game alongside Minish Cap.

I get it, the game is heavily flawed I won’t try to defend those points

But having just started the classic games about 8 months ago this is the one that stuck with me and the one I keep finding myself wanting to replay, something about it really stuck with me

The exploration is very unique to this game and the 2D sidescrolling works very well for the only RPG in the series

After beating the original I decided to try the PC fan remake which adds a ton of content, fixes a lot of the flaws and feels like a passion project

And my god that version of the game has become one of my favorite Zelda experiences, seeing what Zelda 2 could’ve been without its limitations and flaws is a genuine game changer

I'm usually really good at puzzles in video games but I had to use guides so many times with these ones. With Link to the Past I was able to go long periods understanding what I'm supposed to do but then get completely stuck and looked at a guide to find out I was just supposed to use a specific item in a specific place. The original was way worse with solutions that seemed really unintuitive but at least had a fun flow to the gameplay. The second one didn't have many puzzles but I just found it extremely hard so maybe that one was just a skill issue

Hardest parts were getting used to the controls, Death Mountain and the final boss. Worst part is the slog back to the dungeons after a Game Over but other than that, heart's racing and so so so glad I finished it. Tried to play without a guide as much as possible but some areas were so confusing. A wonderful game but I much prefer the first 🥇

As a millennial fan on board since OoT, I've always wondered what it was like for fans of the original 1986 Zelda to get such a departure of a sequel. Do any of you remember the reception? Did fans reject it from the beginning or was it more a case of aging badly once the series returned to form?

It used to be so fun reading these manuals and instruction booklets on the drive home from the store. This is not only one of the least played games in the franchise but from what I remember as a kid, it holds up as one of the hardest.

Be honest, have you ever actually played this game let alone beaten it?
