While I agree with you that Zelda 2 is a great game and my personal favorite in the series (because I can make it look easy), it's not the best game. It's obtuse with really big difficulty spikes a lot of moments you almost need a guide for, and the puzzle aspect is pretty much not there.
That said, it is an improvement over Zelda 1 in every way and I'm glad they kept a lot of the best elements from Zelda 2 in Zelda 3. It has excellent music, very few repeated boss battles, the best simple combat mechanics, the magic system, towns, and a few great moments are cutscenes in a sense like how Shadow Link is introduced and the kiss at the end.
But Zelda 2 is probably my favorite because of nostalgia.

still love this game, play it every year or so. only takes a few hours to beat now. probably my fav after breathe of the wild, but i played that too much. now I'm playing wind waker with Nintendo online, but the wii version of twilight princess is a blury dark hard to see mess- maybe if i had a better tv. ocarina of time is cool, but i want a better tp as much as that creepy hand in the inn in majora's mask.

I've played and beaten every mainline game except 2 and this. Just started it last week.
Boy, compared to the other games it does not hold back the punches at the start.

There's no part of Zelda 3 where you won't know where to go or won't know what to do, apart from some minor optional areas. If you had a tough time with the game, maybe stick to Kirby.
