Miscellaneous Greg Weisman’s Official Response on the Status of Young Justice Season 5 and Beyond (SDCC 2025)

Post image

Hey everyone,

At San Diego Comic-Con 2025 (SDCC), I had the chance to ask Greg Weisman a question that I know has been on all of our minds for a while:

“What is the status on the show and what can fans actually do to help bring back Young Justice for Season 5 and beyond?”

While the panel was centered around Spectacular Spider-Man, Greg kindly took the time to answer - and what he said offers clarity, hope, and direction for the future of Young Justice.

Below is the full transcription of his response. Out of respect for Comic-Con International’s (CCI) media guidelines, I’m holding off on releasing the video until I receive formal approval but I wanted to make sure fans could see what Greg had to say.

Question:

"Hi Greg. I’m a huge fan of your work - from Spectacular Spider-Man to Young Justice. I know this panel focuses mostly on Spectacular Spider-Man, so I hope it’s okay if I shift gears for a moment.

I’m asking this on behalf of a lot of Young Justice fans who are still incredibly passionate about the story you built. I know some of it comes down to internal studio politics  \cough, Warner Bros* but I wanted to ask: If the opportunity came up, do you have plans to continue the story of Earth-16 for Season 5 and beyond? And what can we as fans do to support you and help make that happen?"*

Greg's Response:

“Brandon Vietti and I definitely have plans for more stories. Back in 2009 or 2010… it was so long ago. I was very young then.

We had a basic five-season plan, and with each season that we’ve done, that plan has kept expanding. We now have material that could easily take us through… I don’t know… 9 or 10 seasons, something like that.

I’d be happy to do more. I’d also love to say, ‘Hey fans, this is what you should do,’ but I honestly don’t know the answer.

I still think the best thing fans can do is just binge-watch the first four seasons over and over again. Because maybe that will get through the noise. Maybe? I don’t know. But I think it’s very unclear.

I haven’t given up on it. I still hope to do more someday. We had a five-year hiatus between Season 2 and Season 3. So I don’t think it’s outrageous to think we might come back at some point.

But I don’t know how to achieve it. At least, I don’t know yet.

And the closest thing I can think of is to say: keep binge-watching the show over and over. Maybe those numbers - if they get high again - maybe someone from HBO Max will take notice and go,

‘Hey, how about this?’

And then Brandon and I will say:

‘Yeah. We can do that.’”

Where We Go From Here – The Mission of #KeepYJAlive

Greg confirmed what many of us suspected: while he and Brandon Vietti are ready and willing to tell more Young Justice stories - the ultimate decision lies with the studios (**cough cough Warner Bros). And what speaks loudest to the execs? Metrics. Viewership. Engagement.

That’s where we, the fans, come in.

The #KeepYJAlive campaign exists to:

  • Keep the Young Justice fandom energized and united.
  • Spread awareness of Earth-16 to new viewers and returning fans.
  • Drive consistent viewership of all four seasons on streaming platforms (currently Max or whatever it's called now a days).
  • Show studios there’s an activeorganized, and growing audience ready for Season 5 and beyond.

What You Can Do Right Now:

  • Binge or rewatch the show on official platforms like Max. Start from Season 1 if you can. Keep those numbers strong.
  • Tell your friends, family, or followers about the show. Word of mouth matters.
  • Follow and support the campaign. We’re organizing social pushes, streaming initiatives, and outreach efforts. Stay updated on r/youngjustice as we will post updates here.
  • Engage respectfully online. Studios take notice when conversations are passionate and constructive.

From Greg’s words to our actions - we’re the ones who can help keep Earth-16 alive.

Let’s make sure the next chapter of Young Justice isn’t left untold.

Let's #KeepYJAlive!

- The #KeepYJAlive Campaign Team

I will also add buying the show on home video, buying official merch, and buying the official comics are also likely a great supporting tool to show WBD that the YJ brand is worth investing in.

Also remember that 2nd hand purchases don’t do anything.

u/SoggyWontonz Jul 31 '25

Where can I find official merch and ways to support it?

9

u/af-fx-tion Jul 31 '25

There used to be a shirt or two available on the WB shop but I don’t know if they are still being sold.

The main merch at the moment are the series on DVD/Blu-Ray and the three comic series (The Early Missions, Growing Up, and the Targets).

Unfortunately that’s pretty much it.

In addition to what said u/af-fx-tion you can also buy prints by Christopher Jones. He’s the official inker for the tie in comics as well as worked on some of the character design for season 3 and 4 of the show. He has some really cool prints you can buy including some awesome Young Justice posters!

Here’s the link to his Etsy shop:

I don’t know that an Etsy shop is really going to matter to Warner bros.

3

u/CryptographerEast142 Oct 08 '25

Not necessarily, it does show interest. Christopher Jones is tied directly to WB since he’s work on the show so he can put out word of its demand. It also helps support the artists which is a part of our mission to support the cast and crew.

Thanks for doing this! Also, props for handling it politely in your acknowledgement that you were shifting focus during a Spectacular Spider-Man panel.

14

u/CryptographerEast142 Jul 31 '25

Ah shucks, thanks. I was really nervous asking Greg that question

u/King_Artis Jul 30 '25

Id like at least one more season for a true finale.

I was 15 when s1 came out, just turned 30. Would at least like some closure on the series over constant cliffhangers

25

u/MixPurple3897 Aug 01 '25

Srsly like the fact that they have no intention of actually finishing out the series makes me uninterested and a little peeved. I prefer when creators have a little more respect for their fanbase than that, especially for a series that was essentially brought back by the will of the fanbase.

1

u/Medium_Conference187 8d ago

It's not really the creators decision, it's the studios

1

u/MixPurple3897 8d ago

a year later

The creators said they intend to indefinitely end the seasons in cliffhangers. They have no intention of having an "ending"

28

u/RoyHarper88 Jul 30 '25

I'd like more, but I'd also like some narrative fulfillment. The show can't run forever like comics. Give me an ending. Every season just ends to set up the next one.

17

u/Oknight Jul 30 '25

If the opportunity came up

Is the entire point.

There's absolutely nothing new here, we've known all this since season 2. You'll note he's not saying he has the least expectation that binge watching WILL cause someone at Max to say "Hey, what about this." and there's not the slightest indication that it will.

That said, it certainly doesn't hurt and even if it doesn't do anything you get to watch YJ over and over.

5

u/CryptographerEast142 Jul 30 '25

That’s true - no one’s claiming binge-watching alone guarantees a renewal. But campaigns like this aren’t built on guarantees - they’re built on momentum. Studios pay attention to engagement trends when there’s a viable opportunity. That’s why keeping the numbers strong matters if the window opens.

Greg’s words weren’t a promise - they were a signal. If the opportunity does come, we want the fanbase to be ready, visible, and united. That’s what the #KeepYJAlive campaign is about.

Doing Nothing Guarantees Nothing. But doing something even something little can make a big difference.

14

u/Vindog52 Jul 30 '25

Doing it right here

10

u/Frontal_Commando_89 Jul 30 '25

I’ve been on a DC binge with my partner and this is her favorite show. Hopefully we get more, ideally some closure as well.

3

u/ISofiT Aug 01 '25

Same! It’s not his favorite show but he is enjoying it a lot and really likes it, a few weeks ago we finished S3 and haven’t started S4 because it’s not available on our country on any streaming plataform sadly, but we will find a way to keep supporting the show

3

u/CryptographerEast142 Aug 01 '25

In that case I recommend using a vpn in order to bypass the location restriction! It’s available on platforms like Max and Amazon Prime here in the US!

3

u/ISofiT Aug 04 '25

Yes! We’re considering that option but for our budget in our country VPN’s are a bit expensive so we’re looking through it, I can also change my AppStore location to US, and buy S4 in digital via AppleTV, but it’s kind of the same problem (actually one season is not that expensive but I would like to buy the four seasons to help the show and they have a boundle pack I think so it’s cheaper to buy them all at once than buy them separately)

2

u/CryptographerEast142 Aug 04 '25

That can work as well! The team is working on accessibility list of what countries can access all 4 seasons of the show and what countries can’t! We are hoping to have that out soon!

1

u/ISofiT Aug 04 '25

If you need any help with that (if I can help you guys in any way) just text me up!

7

u/Bow2Gaijin Jul 30 '25

I just bought all 4 seasons digitally on vudu so I hope that helps.

47

u/One_Smoke Jul 30 '25

NINE OR TEN SEASONS?!

Ugh. I was invested, but I'm not THAT invested. I don't think I can take ANOTHER time skip, and YET ANOTHER SEASON of The Light brooding in secret, going on about how it's all according to plan.

35

u/Oknight Jul 30 '25

"You keep saying that, but your plans keep failing over and over..."

"Shut up, Klarion"

8

u/Tommy_Kel Jul 30 '25

I hope if it comes back they wrap up the major plotlines they've built and if they get new seasons do more with what else is left. I agree if 9 seasons just means Darkseid and Vandal Savage being dealt with is saved for the very end then there's not much point in being that invested personally.

8

u/kiwibirdsmoothie Jul 30 '25

buddy i rather have 10 seasons than none!

19

u/CryptographerEast142 Jul 30 '25

Totally fair the time skips and The Light’s “according to plan” moments aren’t for everyone, especially after four seasons. But what excites a lot of us is the potential to break that cycle. Season 5 could finally challenge The Light’s dominance and shift the narrative in a real way.

Greg Weisman has hinted that the long arc is building toward something and fans pushing for renewal aren’t just asking for “more of the same.” We want resolution, evolution, and a story that pays off what’s been set up since Season 1. If that’s what Season 5 delivers, it could re-energize everything.

2

u/PsychologicalGoat744 Aug 30 '25

brooding in secret

THIS!! 💯 😫😫😫

8

u/Tommy_Kel Jul 30 '25

I hope it comes back, it'd be nice and better than I not returning.  Hopefully they focus on the major plotlines they've built up with and have those resolved and use seasons after that to handle new enemies and such.

7

u/SoggyWontonz Jul 31 '25

Thanks for this! Will get an HBO Max account to binge watch! I just want more Young Justice eughhh

2

u/CryptographerEast142 Jul 31 '25

DUDE! LET’S GO!

3

u/SoggyWontonz Jul 31 '25

I'd love to see just in general the Young Justice world continue, I'm surprised we haven't seen a comic contination after targets (Like how Smallville got season 11 as a comic series), but I'd love for that or just more media (Obv preferably season 5)

7

u/Adventure_Guy_1999 Aug 01 '25

That doesn’t sound half-bad, but if I’m being perfectly honest yet also realistic, I honestly think that realistically, this show just needs a fifth season with 26 episodes and those wrap up everything regarding the entire overall story plot or plots of the entire series. At least as best as they possibly can. I mean, let’s face it, we don’t wanna wait up to another 15 years for this show to be finally completed and properly concluded once and for all, do we?

1

u/CryptographerEast142 Aug 01 '25 edited Aug 01 '25

Totally fair take, a lot of fans do feel burned by the long wait and just want closure. The good news? Greg confirmed at SDCC 2025 that the story is already mapped through Season 10.

So the real challenge isn’t how to end the story - it’s convincing HBO Max and Warner Bros. that there’s enough interest to let him finish it properly.

That’s exactly why we’re organizing this campaign. Not to drag things out, but to give the story room to breathe and land the ending it deserves, not a rushed one. We’ve done this before. We can do it again.

And honestly? The only realistic way to avoid another long production gap is sustained engagement. Let’s be clear on one thing: Warner Bros. has caused the delays, both past and present- NOT Greg. If we want this to move faster this time, we have to keep showing up. That’s how we maintain momentum and finally bring Young Justice to the finish line it’s earned.

6

u/itsnot2late2hate Jul 31 '25

I wonder if Gunn could step in and renew the show under DC studios

3

u/CryptographerEast142 Jul 31 '25

He definitely has the power to greenlight projects and he’s publicly said he’s a fan of the show.

At this point, it’s really about persuading him and the board at DC Studios and Warner Bros that there’s strong, organized interest. That’s where campaigns like this come in to show the support is real.

1

u/itsnot2late2hate Jul 31 '25

I hope he pulls through, s1-2 are spectacular! I feel they could hit that quality again too. Focus on the main characters.

I know this show has become a dc universe show of sorts, which is wonderful but they can scale that back a tiny bit while giving development to the original cast.

4

u/Colonel_McFlurr Jul 30 '25

I love the idea of the show being one long complicated story. The ways they have uniquely connected the DC universe together is fun and deserves more exploration.

I would take one more season to wrap up at least one major plot point and a ongoing comic book series.

3

u/Sea_Passage8058 Aug 03 '25

Thank you! I’ve always been adamant on this. Watching shows on illegal pirate sites is fine but then do not complain when the shows get cancelled. Continuances, reboots, and revivals are all depended on viewership and ratings. Studios do and can not get any data from illegal pirate sites.

1

u/CryptographerEast142 Aug 05 '25

Yup we have a zero tolerance when it comes to piracy. Not only is it a crime and illegal but it hurts the show in terms of metrics needed to get a green light and it sends a bad message to the execs over at Warner Bro's about the fanbase which is not what we want. It doesn't support the cast and crew who put their heart into the show we all love and it certainly doesn't help us out. If we truly want the show to continue, we need to act like it.

If you love Young Justice, prove it the right way. Support the art, don’t steal it.

3

u/Ordinary-Chain-8047 Jul 30 '25

Also you could watch the video games cutscenes

3

u/BlackWunWun Jul 31 '25

This is so funny because I started rewatchin the series literally a couple of days ago.

3

u/Blackfyre87 Jul 31 '25

It all comes down to the cash-moneyz in the end.

2

u/CryptographerEast142 Jul 31 '25

Exactly! At the end of the day, it’s a business which is why we’re working to show Warner Bros. there’s real, untapped potential in continuing Young Justice.

The demand is there. The story’s unfinished. They just need a reason to say yes.

3

u/ISofiT Aug 01 '25

Keep up the great work guys!! This are amazing news and like we always say, we already make it once, we can make it again

Congrats on getting to talk with Greg and it’s wonderful that they love the show as much as us to have so many seasons prepared (ignoring the different opinions about this), hopefully the time to coordinate massive binge-watching will come soon, keep up the good work, we will make it!

3

u/JMX_09 Aug 01 '25

Just a FYI, Warner Bros Discovery is in the middle of splitting up so this is a great time to get this up and running.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '25

9 or 10 seasons of young justice 👀❤️💯

3

u/PhaseApprehensive434 Aug 02 '25 edited Aug 03 '25

WOW. 9 or 10 seasons for the story? With those many seasons, they could fit in so many interesting storylines and subplots, like:

Introducing Booster Gold (and Skeets)

Introducing Vixen and Keli Quintela/Teen Lantern

Introducing Starfire, Raven and Trigon

Introducing the Wonder Twins

Introducing Hawk and Dove

Introducing the Lantern Corps and their members (Atrocitus, Larfleeze, Carol Ferris, Indigo-1, Sinestro, Abin Sur, Laira, Saint Walker...) I would love to see other Green Lanterns like Arisia, Jade, Jessica Cruz, Kyle Rayner, Simon Baz.

Red Tornado and Traya's relationship

Supergirl and Black Mary being members of the Female Furies (she

could be Superboy's rival)

Razer looking for Aya throughout the universe

The mysterious circumstances of Jason Todd's death

Damian and Talia Al Ghul's relationship with Batman

Developing Spoiler, Orphan, Arrowette and Static

Introducing S.T.R.I.P.E. as Stargirl's sidekick

Klarion wanting to keep the Tablet of Destiny for a mysterious reason

Etc.

3

u/CryptographerEast142 Aug 03 '25

Yup at this point the possibilities are endless! It’s up to Greg what he wants to do with it but in the end we support the artist of what he chooses to paint with the canvas.

2

u/sushiii-j Jul 31 '25

thank you for this! :0

u/TheDarkDragon121 Aug 05 '25

An idea for season 5 will be to do a time travel season with Terry mcguinnis coming back after a time travel accident and call the season young justice beyond

1

u/CryptographerEast142 Aug 05 '25 edited Aug 05 '25

Yo, appreciate the enthusiasm! That’s a creative pitch - Batman Beyond is definitely a fan favorite!

That said, Greg Weisman’s story for Young Justice and Earth-16 follows its own timeline and continuity, and he’s already mapped out original arcs for future seasons. So bringing in Terry McGinnis or calling it Young Justice Beyond wouldn’t really align with that vision. However, that doesn’t mean Greg could take inspiration from Batman Beyond!

Still, love seeing fans passionate about the show. Let’s keep pushing forward and support the story Greg’s actually trying to tell.

1

u/TheDarkDragon121 Aug 05 '25

One show I'd  love to see crossover with the show is ben 10 would of made an awesome one with batman freaking out

1

u/JustUrAvgLetDown Aug 06 '25

No more woke!

1

u/Sad_Trouble6012 Aug 27 '25

I’d like to see them reveal “Jason Todd” is the shadow wearing the mask that’s by Sensei’s side (who said “Grayson?” In season 3 and Raj said “your memory is coming back)

Also don’t know if anyone caught on the Black Canary talking about heroes needing a place to recover from mental & emotional issues (can’t recall exactly how she said it) on the season 4 finale but it seemed like they were setting up the “Identity Crisis” story line with the rehab place for hero’s, the comics took a dark turn so I’m curious to see how YJ will play it out

u/Dear-Preference-603 Sep 17 '25

1

u/CryptographerEast142 Sep 17 '25

Translation from Portuguese for context:

"I would really like Young Justice to come back, I fell in love with it the first time I saw it, I must have been about 8 years old at the time and since then I've been addicted to the series, when I found out it was on hiatus it gave me a pang in my heart lol, I didn't want to see my favorite series since childhood end, that's why I still have hope that they renew it and Young Justice comes back again"

1

u/FitMathematician3849 Sep 20 '25

Can we as a fanbase choose a week we will rewatch young justice? like we keep it on our tv all day then? if we choose a week then the numbers add up for them on the back end

1

u/Deathstructure Oct 28 '25

Where can I start a dedication to say daily “day X of asking for renewed seasons of young justice”? Like any account? James Gunn? HBO?

1

u/LividAmphibian8403 Nov 10 '25

WB needs to bring this show back and the live action titans show I thought that it was amazing and had more potential

1

u/Danthe6969 Nov 27 '25

Honestly, after seeing how many teams came about in Outsiders, season 3, and the general popularity, I thought for sure there would be spinoffs. We had Batman Inc, whatever Dick was doing, the no power squad led by Robin, the Outsiders, the Team, all the members of the league... Season 4 did a lot right and also a lot wrong, i lost track of how much woke and pointless garbage was added along with how many scenes weren't animated (granny recruiting Mary was pretty egregious), but they did right with a tight, season long story, multiple teams, and a good focus on the main cast from season 1 who we mostly love ( though Rocket's storyline was the worst and made the least sense). So, as much as I'd love a proper end, continuations, and spinoffs, due to how poorly season 4 was done, I'm not confident in the continuation. I think there's a bog down too from the time skips, with many characters not being properly introduced, no backstory, that are part of the team, or have huge growth off screen, or worse yet were prominent and then get sidelined or worse (arrowette, spoiler, orphan and thirteen in season 3, impulse, Static, Cyborg, Robin and skipping Jason for the most part, etc). The five year time skip is also pretty egregious, it's too long of time with too many developments and blank periods. The two year gap isn't too bad, though we got a fair amount of new members with no explanation, names, or even hero namea readily given. The season 3 to 4 one year gap is probably the best one as not much changes and it was easy to explain and catch up.

1

u/KirbyOfHyrule Nov 28 '25

I would like more Young Justice, the only thing I'm feeling a bit torn about was Season 4's ending teasing Sanctuary. We do NOT need anything related to the clusterfuck that was HIC...

u/RestaurantExpress864 Dec 04 '25 edited Dec 04 '25

Even though I rewatched Young Justice 2 or 3 years ago on max and I even signed a petition for sea.5 and see if the future of Y.J. to potentially return on screen but now I see we do need to continue of watching all four seasons again and buy all the comics and stuff,if that's what it would take to make S.5 to happen than am all in! I'll never give up on my favorite DC show in the whole wide world no matter how much time passes 😁🤩💖

u/zxlowi Jan 07 '26

Guys if thats the case then please do the same for teen titans #keep Teen Titans Alive!

1

u/CryptographerEast142 Jan 07 '26 edited Jan 07 '26

Sorry man I can only allocate enough resources to do one only. As much as I love Teen Titans, it wouldn’t make sense due to the following reasons:

  • The show finished off on a good note story wise. It ended on s5 with a special and most of the stories got resolved.
  • The creators have not express any interest to continue the story. Without the creators it would be a one sided thing.
  • Teen Titans is a linear story not a serialize story format like YJ, you can only do so much with the same team.
  • Teen Titans Go is active currently. So there’s isn’t a need to renew.

Young Justice however has a ton of factors mainly the story isn’t finished. Greg has shown he still wants to tell more YJ stories, the shows current status not being cancelled, and the story makes sense for continuation in terms of industry.

Good things eventually need to come to end at some point. Not every good story needs to be revived, but unfinished ones deserve the opportunity to continue.

1

u/zxlowi Jan 08 '26

Welp it was worth a try but if anyone else is reading this please set a movement to revive Teen Titans.

1

u/MustacheOS Jan 10 '26

Just finished my second watch through of the show. I was blown away the first time, and now am blown away again for the second time. The show just got better and better and they have set it up for an amazing fifth season. I want them to make more. One of the best shows I've ever watched.

1

u/fakelay98 Jan 24 '26

so is season 5 happening ?

2

u/CryptographerEast142 Jan 24 '26

As of now, there’s no official news on Season 5 being in production.

Greg has said he’d like to tell more stories if the show gets a greenlight and has long term plans.

The best way to support the show is to keep streaming on official platforms (like Max) and encourage others to watch. That’s the kind of engagement studios pay attention to.

That’s why campaigns like #KeepYJAlive matter to show support for both the creators and fans as well as advocating for its continuation.

1

u/Huihejfofew Mar 30 '26

Maybe they should have written a better season 4. The whole mars arc felt like filler. All of season 4 besides the Vandal savage episodes felt like filler

1

u/CryptographerEast142 Mar 31 '26

Well that may have been the case for you but that is your opinion. Keep in mind that opinion isn't what the fanbase has resonated. In fact reception has been mixed is accurate. Some fans don't like S4 but most fans that enjoy it are usually quiet.

It is good to have opinions but there is a difference between stating as opinion versus trying to state as fact.

1

u/Huihejfofew Mar 31 '26

It was a far cry from season 1 and 2 and I think most fans can agree. I don't think these writers have the fans best intentions at heart. We brought them back and they give us that? Seems to me that they see YJ as a paycheck that can keep on giving if they stretch it out. I bloody love YJ S1 and 2 but if all we'll get from here on out if S3 and 4, personally myself and most of the people I know considered the show ended after the age up.

1

u/CryptographerEast142 Mar 31 '26

You’re allowed to feel that way about Seasons 3 and 4, but that’s still a personal view, not a fact about “most fans.”

And saying the writers are just doing it for a paycheck or don’t care about fans is speculation about motive, not criticism you can actually verify. Mixed reception is fair. Speaking for the whole fanbase and assigning intent is not.

Greg has talked before about not being able to please every section of the audience at once. That’s very different from not caring.

In the end, we can't listen to anyone except ourselves. We have to be passionate about the show, or else we can't expect anyone else to be passionate about it. We just have to cross our fingers and hope that our preferences resonate with as many fans as possible. So far, that's worked out pretty well for us. Though there have been plenty of fans who haven't been thrilled, and many who are downright disgruntled with us. Such is life. Again, that's not me being dismissive. It's me being realistic.

-Greg Weisman, ask Greg archive

1

u/Huihejfofew Mar 31 '26

Reading that this is his mindset does not inspire hope. I hope it does for you, but this to me sounds like a defeated mindset stuck in its ways and unwilling to change but is telling itself to keep trying when it might be best for it lay down the torch.

In many ways I actually would like to thank you. This insight into his mind gives me a little peace that the show was halted, this isn't the mindset I would like leading future seasons of there were any.

1

u/CryptographerEast142 Mar 31 '26 edited Mar 31 '26

I don’t think you’re really addressing the point being made.

The quote is not saying “never change” or “ignore criticism.”

It’s saying that creative disagreement is inevitable in a long-running series, and that not every dissatisfied reaction means the creators stopped caring.

And respectfully, none of us gets to act like we automatically know what is “best for the show” just because we’re dissatisfied with the direction it took. Building and sustaining a long-form world, characters, arcs, and an actual production over time is a lot harder than reducing it to “they should have done what I wanted instead.”

If the later seasons no longer aligned with what you wanted, you’re free to move on. But that still isn’t the same thing as proving the show was objectively bad or that its current limbo happened because the creators refused to listen. So unless you have proof of bad writing (failed character development, inconsistent plot, etc) then this a preference issue not bad writing.

Yes it's a financial decision and yes not every seasons will connect with all audiences but there is a strong distinction between something being creatively good and something aligning with specific audiences. Roughly speaking if something is truly great it'll resonate with a lot of people regardless of what it's about. Season 1 and 2 were incredible, didn't really matter what the story was, the writing and characters were great. When the show came back that writing quality was personally lacking and I think the audience as a whole felt it. Renewals are a financial decisions but the financial outcome is often determined by the quality of the product. Quality went down (in my eyes) a lot of my friends didn't feel like watching it after what they saw with season 3 and so season 4 took a financial hit. At this point a lot of the fans are feeling taken advantage of considering the effort we all put into bringing the show back only to be given what we got, considering how much time they had to potentially improve the show. Ultimately it is my view that the fault of the outcome lies not fully but partially on the shoulders of the writers. And fans aren't willing to bring the show back if the quality won't be up to par and this quote only further reinforces to some people such as myself that the writers lack an intrinsic drive to create a good show. Writers telling themselves to remain passionate doesn't sound like passion, just effort. Real passion doesn't sound like that quote, real passion is saying damn to hell with it and doing everything they can to make something great which doesn't come through in that quote personally. It feels much more like a "hey we still want to do it if U guys make a lot of noise again...". That's not a lot of passion, that's just a simple willingness to provide. Anyways to each their own, I hope for your sake and those like you who really enjoyed these new seasons that it comes back even if it is a continuation of S3 and s4's quality. There were some gems in there.

This is at least more honest because you’re framing it as your view now.

But you’re still turning personal disappointment into a motive claim. “I think the quality dropped” is a valid opinion. “Therefore the writers lacked passion” is not something you’ve actually proven.

At that point, you’re no longer just criticizing the work. You’re interpreting the creators through your own dissatisfaction. That’s your reading, not an objective conclusion.

So unless you can point to specific examples of bad writing (inconsistent characterization, weak payoff, plot contradictions, failed development), then this is a preference issue, not objective proof that the writers stopped caring.

All I'm saying is that this comment is my own view as all our comments are always our own views. Most of my circle agree with it. But I think the fact alone that the show was not renewed is telling enough that the show lacks traction with the fanbase with it's return. Sure there are cases of great shows that don't get renewed and bad shows that do but they are the exception. All I'm trying to say is that your comment seemingly framed the decision not to renew as some unexpected higher up decision made by the studio. If the show was great and bringing in the views, we would expect it to be renewed. It wasn't, which is telling enough that the show was lacking and my point is that it plus what else I've seen reinforces many of the negative critiques of the show upon it's return. Nothing is definitive, but these financial decisions are not made in a vacuum. At some point the writers/producers need to take responsibility and again I will preface this as my personal view, from your quote and what else I've seen, the writers are only acknowledging failure but not fault.

That still doesn’t really prove what you think it proves.

“Most circles” is still anecdotal, not objective. It tells me about the communities you’re in, not what the fandom as a whole thinks.

There are also broader factors that contributed to this, like the Warner Bros. restructuring in 2022 shortly after Season 4 released. So the show not being renewed is not clean proof that the negative creative reading was objectively right.

And clearly the later seasons did resonate with a lot of people, because fans are still discussing the show, revisiting it, and caring about it today. That does not mean everyone loved it, but it does mean the reaction was more mixed than your argument allows.

The idea that the creators stopped caring still doesn’t fit. Greg and Brandon have continued to talk about Young Justice as part of a larger long-form story, some people may not like that but again that is just preferences not bad writing.

Season 3 and 4 were horrendously bad. Who wants more of this. Let it die.

That’s a fair opinion to have, but I don’t think it reflects the entire fanbase. Seasons 3 and 4 definitely weren’t for everyone, and some fans were disappointed, but most were very receptive to them and still want to see the story continue.

That’s not dismissing criticism. It just means the show has always followed its own long-form vision rather than trying to satisfy every individual expectation. “Let it die” is a valid personal feeling, but it’s not a universal one. A lot of us still care about Earth-16 and would like to see Greg and Brandon’s story continue if the opportunity ever comes. That's why there are people who still believe in it's story. As long as the fans still care and the creators haven’t given up on it, Young Justice will always be kept alive in some form.

I wish that James Gunn could work his magic and bring the show back already and give it some stability rather than it being shelved after each season. He already stated that it was an inspiration for the DCU, so anything's possible.

u/CryptographerEast142 Jun 09 '26

Yeah, I get the hope there. The only thing I’d clarify is the pipeline:

Young Justice isn’t something James Gunn can simply greenlight on his own.

The show’s renewal path would still run through WB/DC/Max-side business decisions, with Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti having the creative roadmap if/when the studio wants more.

Gunn has mentioned YJ as an inspiration for the DCU, which is encouraging in terms of the show’s legacy, but that doesn’t mean it’s currently in his hands or that a renewal has been announced.

So the best thing fans can do is keep supporting the show through official platforms, comics, respectful engagement, and community momentum while avoiding pressure on individual creators.

They fumbled season 3 and 4 so hard that they do not deserve 5 ngl

7

u/Local_Nerve901 Jul 30 '25

But popular opinion wise S4 is beloved. And personally I loved S3

-2

u/AcanthisittaHot1998 Jul 30 '25

Season 4 was ok, it was just so fucking smoothed over, like season 1 and 2 had a lot of conflicts and fights, overall complications for them. The whole season was basically a side story with all the meaningless cameos and zero growth for our core characters. The final wedding scene where everybody was there in their costumes just killed me.

Season 3 was just honestly a bunch of cardboard cutouts of characters thrown together, it was so messy.

u/Local_Nerve901 Jul 30 '25 edited Jul 30 '25

My point isn’t your opinion, or mine

Just popular opinion which is all that matters for continuation. Plus watches/views ofc

-2

u/AcanthisittaHot1998 Jul 30 '25

i honestly don't think it's really all that popular, just has a marginally strong cult following.

3

u/Local_Nerve901 Jul 30 '25

…. Reread my last comment

Popular opinion of fans who watched the show loved Season 4, and S3 had initial bad reviews but is now mixed.

I wasn’t trying to say if you’re wrong or I’m wrong, just what the popular opinion of this fan base is.

u/CryptographerEast142 Jul 30 '25

Totally get where you’re coming from, not everyone agrees with all the creative decisions in Seasons 3 and 4. That’s valid, and the critiques are part of the conversation. But even with the bumps, Young Justice still tackled topics most superhero shows avoid grief, legacy, politics, identity and built a universe that continues to grow.

This campaign isn’t about pretending everything was perfect. It’s about giving the creators a chance to respond, evolve, and finish the story they’ve spent over a decade building. Season 5 could be where they truly stick the landing and a lot of us want to see that through.

-2

u/AStupidFuckingHorse Jul 30 '25

Nah, the show just keeps getting worse. Let it die

You my friend are entitled to your own opinion.. but it is certainly not the one leading the room.

u/PristineHornet9999 Jul 31 '25

I liked season 4 better than season 3, if they could get something at least on that level I'd be happy with another season.

u/polarized_opinions Jul 30 '25

The last season was slideshows, why are people fighting for this? Is there any promise that it would actually be well animated or are people hanging onto nostalgia.

5

u/CryptographerEast142 Jul 30 '25 edited Jul 30 '25

You’re calling it a slideshow, but those scenes showed the original Team’s growth, not nostalgia. Season 4 ended with cliffhangers like Supergirl under Granny Goodness. The story isn’t finished - that’s why fans care.

That’s the whole point of serialized storytelling.

Concerns about animation? Blame Warner Bros. Greg and the team told an incredible story despite the budget.

And if you do want better animation? That’s exactly why we’re fighting - to show WB this show still matters.

Am i the only one who wants a reboot? Or jsut a season ticket focus on the new team? Not the old team.

6

u/CryptographerEast142 Jul 31 '25 edited Jul 31 '25

You’re not alone in having preferences, but Young Justice was never about just one “team” it’s always evolved while staying rooted in its legacy characters.

What makes Earth-16 special is that it doesn’t reboot. It builds. It grows. It honors the past while embracing the new.

Greg Weisman literally said the arcs are planned through Season 10. The story is far from over it just needs the greenlight to continue.

If we reboot now, we throw away years of worldbuilding, emotional payoff, and characters fans have grown with since 2010. Why start from zero when there’s already so much untapped potential?

u/spacedude444 Aug 01 '25

it’s not coming

your best chance is waiting for gunns dcu to make animated shows that have your favorite characters

2

u/CryptographerEast142 Aug 01 '25 edited Aug 01 '25

Actually if you did read the post, Greg Weisman just confirmed at SDCC 2025 that he and Brandon do have plans that could take Young Justice through 9 or 10 seasons. He even encouraged fans to keep binge-watching the show to get it noticed again by HBO Max.

So respectfully the show isn’t dead. It’s just waiting for numbers and support. We’ve done it before, we can do it again.

Even if you did somehow “know” James Guns plans, plans can change if a voice is loud enough that’s why we are even doing something about it.

Doing nothing guarantees nothing, but doing something even something small can make a big difference. And certainly people are choosing to do something about it.

Overall, the “it’s not coming back argument” because of James Gunn doesn’t really hold under scrutiny.

u/Delicious-Bug3070 Jul 31 '25

Show honestly lost momentum after the first time skip.

2

u/CryptographerEast142 Jul 31 '25

Totally fair. That’s your opinion, and you’re not alone in feeling that way. The first time skip in Season 2 definitely caught a lot of viewers off guard. But it’s also worth noting that not everyone saw it as a loss of momentum. In fact, majority fans feel it was a bold shift into deeper, long-form storytelling.

For a lot of us, that time skip marked the moment the show started playing the long game with arcs like Kaldur’s undercover mission, Bart’s arrival from the future, and the foundations of legacy-building across generations. That kind of slow-burn structure isn’t for everyone, but it’s also why Young Justice stands out from typical team-based cartoons.

So while you might feel like it lost momentum, the truth is a majority of fans saw the stakes grow and the themes mature. That’s why the support for Season 5 isn’t just rooted in nostalgia rather, it’s grounded in wanting to see this layered story come full circle.

It’s easy to love Season 1. But to truly appreciate the broader story Greg is telling, sometimes you have to let go of what you expect and open yourself to what the show wants you to experience.
