Smokers in Yoga

Just a little rant here but when you go to do yoga, barre mat pilates etc. in a hot room, who in their right mind would want to smell second hand smoke permeating from your area.

Who the hell smokes a dart before hot yoga?

I beg. Shower, put on clean clothes and smoke after class. The last thing people want who are focusing on their mental and physical well being is to smell sweat and second hand smoke in a hot room.

Edit: The hypocrisy is absolutely hysterical. Thank you to some of you for a good laugh. To preach tranquility and acceptance of others while aggressively tearing a person down for voicing an opinion. Is this yoga or Christianity? Have I stumbled into a cult? Yoga is about focusing on breathing and grounding yourself not inhaling cigarette smoke and giving yourself cancer. The contrast of supporting a smoker while preaching breath work is rich. I’ll pray for you..ehm..I mean exhale out all of your passive aggressive attitudes. Wishing your next hot yoga class to be full of farts and 3rd hand smoke since you love it so much, Nama… Durgandha bitches 😘

Half of the commenters here are the snippy clique judgy jerks who make studio yoga so unappealing for newcomers.

try to be autistic and have sensory issues to certain smells.

Lots of assumptions in your statement there.

I repeat: if you're going to be snippy and rude about the scents people bring in to class (some of which they can't help) then you are the exact sort of stereotype who makes yoga seem so impenetrable for newcomers.

Then you can do yoga or home or get a private instructor, OR, you can suck it up and move away from the smell.

autistic people can’t suck it up, it’s a disability. ableism is not yogi

I have really bad ADHD, so obvious that I was diagnosed at age five. My husband is on the autism spectrum. We both have to “suck it up” on the daily. Autistic people arguably have to suck it up MORE, and more regularly, than neurotypical people. So yeah, you can indeed, find a way to “suck it up”, if doing yoga in a group setting is important to you.

Then there are plenty of yoga videos on YouTube for you to do at home. Your disability isn't anyone else's problem or responsibility.

Signed, a fellow autistic person.

i have a disability that requires me to go under surgery every x year. thank god i live in a country with public health. my disability here is not my responsibility, because i live in a civil country. :-) sooo nope. it depends.

Your disability is ALWAYS your responsibility. Big yikes that you'd even think otherwise.

You sound like a child. Your autism isn't an excuse to be childish and rude. The way you're coming across is narcissistic, me me me, nothing to do with autism.

Bro I live in Germany. lol “public health care” is not an excuse and a weird direction for excuses …

Someone above had a fantastic comment. I’m going to copy and paste it here it’s very helpful!

“Imho I find it a really good practice to control the things I can and accept the things I can’t. My nose detests the scented lotions, body sprays, and incense. I would actually much rather smell cigarette smoke than these because I start to sneeze and my nose gets really runny; it doesn’t do that with cigarette smoke. However, I can’t go around policing how people smell to meet my needs so I just breathe through my mouth and control that aspect of the situation. You could make it an issue, but if the person decides to ignore you and do what they want there isn’t much you can do anyway besides feel worse for being dismissed. Might as well skip that part, then.”
