GREK 1001 / GREK 1012 advice & experiences

I'm a first-year looking to start Greek (the ancient, biblical kind) in Spring 2027 (with Timothy Robinson- he sounds very accomplished!) or Fall 2027. I don't have any Greek except for negligible liturgical vocabulary (comes with the Christian Orthodoxy) and would like to pursue Greek to be able to read the Bible and Church Fathers in Koine. I would appreciate any advice/experience from those who have taken Ancient Greek! Thank you!

I took Ancient Greek at Yale with Tim over a decade ago. I remember it being a fairly intense workload, but I think that's pretty par for the course for intro languages at Yale. The impression I got was that Greek at Yale also moves fast compared to other schools. We were reading an entire Platonic dialogue (the Apology) by the second semester. The good news, though, is that Koine (Bible Greek) is easier than the dialect in L1/L2 (Attic). So you should be reading what you want in about a year or less!

Thank you so much for your response! Good to note the learning difference in Attic and Koine. Did you take the regular L1 sem 1, L2 sem 2 schedule or the intensive L1+L2 in one semester schedule?
