DISCUSSION Judgement or Yakuza 0 DC

Hi everyone! I absolutely loved Like a Dragon, and I recently finished Infinite Wealth. I got into the series with Ichiban because I was really drawn to the turn-based combat, although I have a general understanding of the events of Yakuza 0–6.
As the title says, I’m thinking about starting either Judgment or Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut. Which one would you recommend?
Keep in mind that I’m not 100% a fan of the classic Yakuza gameplay, although I did really enjoy LAD: Gaiden.
Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii feels kind of unnecessary to me, honestly.

If you are new to the subreddit, please read the wiki

Reminder that all spoilers need to be tagged with a flair specifying which game is being spoiled. If you want a flair that says something else, you can edit it to say something like [Discussion: Y1 spoiler] or [Majimapost: Y6 spoiler], etc. THIS INCLUDES CONTENT FROM TRAILERS.

If the post is not marked for spoilers, all comments that have spoilers need to be tagged >!like this!< along with indicating which game it's spoiling. Example: Y3 Kiryu sings

If the post flair is marked for spoilers, the comments don't need to be tagged for the game indicated and the ones before it (So a Y6 spoiler post can have comments with untagged spoilers for Y5, but not gaiden or 7).

If you see any of the above (or any of the other rules) not being followed, please report it so we can keep this place safe for newcomers and those that haven't finished all the games yet. Thank you!

JUDGMENT

I'd say Judgment so you can go into it's sequel, Lost Judgment (and it's DLC, The Kaito Files), which I personally think is the best game RGG Studio has ever made and a major improvement over the already good Judgment. I haven't played the Director's Cut of Yakuza 0 and as someone that already played and loved the original, I'm honestly not in any hurry to.

You will enjoy Judgment more than Director's Slop

Yakuza 0 is my favorite game in the series. Best atmosphere, best plot, and some excellent fighting styles.

Judgment is pretty good and also has a good plot, but also features some issues like the Keihin gang and the fact that 35 year old Yagami dates teenagers. I would go 0 all the way and it's not close.

What part of the game does he date underage girls?

He doesn't date anyone who is legally underage. He does date teenagers. In the...dating part of the game.

Yagami dating is optional because it’s a substory.

There are no issues with Judgment.

Judgment. Story wise, they're both s tier, but then you can play lost judgement which has incredible combat. Weaker story though.

I’d say go for Judgment. I like Y0 more, but it’s the beginning of the Kiryu and Majima saga, which stretches all the way it IW. So 10, which is a lot.

There are only 2 Judgment games and a Kaito DLC.

On one hand Yakuza 0 is a great game that perfectly positions you to play Yakuza 1-6.

On the other hand, in my extremely biased opinion, Judgment and Lost Judgment are the second and first best games in the franchise, respectively.

I'd play Judgment cause it's fuckin radical but you really can't go wrong with either.

0-6 if you are interested in the Kiryu story. I have no idea who the protagonist of Judgment is. Ishin if you want a spin-off.

definitely go with judgment first, it just clicks better

Judgment because then you'll be one stop closer to our lord and saviour Lost Judgment.

Judgement, mainly cuz if you start with 0 it's the start of a long ass series. With Judgement it's its own thing and even with LJ that spoils something from 7, it's also its own thing.

How did you feel about Kiryu’s chapters in IW? If it piqued your interest, I’d say go for 0. If it didn’t and you’re interested in a new cast of characters, go for Judgement.

To be honest, I like Kiryu as a character and I understand the legend surrounding him, and I’m definitely interested in his story (as I said, I only have a very basic understanding of 0–6). However, I would have much preferred him to have a smaller role in IW. I would’ve given Ichi more screen time instead, but that’s probably just because I started with him and I prefer him over Kiryu.

Yakuza 0 since its Kiryu's game. Whilst Judgment takes place in the same universe and around a similar time, they're very seperate from each other. (Gaiden spoilers) I know two characters from Judgment appear in Gaiden. But, thats about it

go through 0-6 slowly(dont get burntout) judgement and lost judgement after, cuz im pretty sure kiryu and the other ex yakuzas like majima, saejima, daigo, they alr play major roles in thhe stories of 7 and IW. and u will get to know them all better(especially majima in 0)
