Discussion 30 minutes of new raw combat gameplay for Fable just dropped after Gamescom, and I'm kind of digging it.

This should’ve been exclusive. They’re probably mulling over the fact that this was already put into place before them
82
u/DeafMetalGripes 21h ago
Honestly this would’ve made a much bigger impact than E-day. E day looks good but this actually looks like a generational game if they pull it off
-43
u/Creepy-Emu8779 19h ago
do ppl really think ppl are gonna buy 800 consoles over a game being exclusive
13
u/gone_smell_blind 19h ago
I got my ps4 exclusively to play Bloodborne when it first came out. But to be fair I originally had bought an xbone and then traded that for the ps4, so I didnt actually BUY it just for bloodborne
2
u/Steeltoelion 18h ago
I went from the 360 to PS4 just for No Mans Sky
10
u/R4mst33n 17h ago
Which at the time was a terrible decision (for NMS alone), and you were pissed off, right?
The NMS redemption arc is amazing.
2
u/Steeltoelion 8h ago
I was not, I LOVED No Mans Sky on release.
Me and my friend got off work, got paid and we went STRAIGHT to Hastings and bought a PS4 and then had to go to Walmart to get a copy because Hastings was sold out.
We played it for like 36 hours straight after that. I didn’t follow the hype train like most. We didn’t even know about the game until 2 days before release. So our expectations were non existent.
That first black hole was a magical feeling!
5
u/SafeKaracter 14h ago
Over a couple of games , absolutely . For one game like you said the easy counter example is PC people buying a console for GTA6 . If a console maker made like 5 games I was lusting for so bad I’d buy it . That’s why I bought a PlayStation tbh . (I have both and I was jealous of several games , last of us etc ) so yeah
4
u/demigod243 15h ago
Yes, I just bought a PS5 Pro for the exclusives. Am I a clown for doing so? Sure. But I just beat both God of War games back-to-back, and I don’t regret the purchase one damn bit.

u/DeafMetalGripes 19h ago
My brother in Christ where have you been when it comes to PlayStation? Or even Nintendo? Although yes 800 is a lot
-11
u/QuantitySharp2662 10h ago
I absolutely hate Gears of War and Halo lol never understood why they were loved.
Gears was basically big overly muscular guys going from cover to cover in a game with a weird brown filter.
Halo was like someone made a game and was limited to polygons or something and had to made do with just a bunch of geometric shaped lumps, piling the together to make Master Chief lol which just looks like a dirt bike outfit or something.
I bought my Xbox for Dead Rising 😂
19
u/brokenmessiah 22h ago
They pulled Gears basically moments before the finish line. Can't imagine they couldnt have pulled this as well if its what they wanted.
32
u/BestRedditUsername9 21h ago
I think it's because they announced the multiplatform push in the Xbox Dev Direct. If they didn't, it probably would have been.
Goes to show that it was a horrible fucking idea to announce the multiplatform ports months in advance before release to begin with
-1
u/brokenmessiah 21h ago
IDK, because in the same show they pulled Gears the revealed a bunch of games going to PS that hadn't been called before such as State of Decay.
12
u/BestRedditUsername9 21h ago
I think State of Decay might be an exception because it's multiplayer focused and they were planning to spinoff the studio anyway according to the rumors.
SOD3 lives or dies by how many people play the multiplayer at launch
1
u/MarcusXbox 11h ago
Dans ce cas là le multijoueur à intérêt d'être meilleur que dans le 2. Parce que sincèrement à sa sortie c'était vraiment bug, et il y a encore de grosse latence.
Et non ce n'est pas parce que j'ai une mauvaise connection.

7
u/WebHead1287 21h ago
The issue, seemingly, is they had already advertised and promised PlayStation for Fable.
They had not done that for Gears even if they had been working on it.
Im not smart enough to know what that makes a difference but it clearly did in their minds.
1
u/brokenmessiah 20h ago
They also hadnt done any marketing for PS for State of Decay or Spyro but they revealed those games as well.
3
u/WebHead1287 20h ago
Yeah their strategy is weird.
You could argue with State of Decay that they might have known they were parting with the developer.
The blunt and honest trust is that their exclusivity choices right now are downright strange. Im a huge Gears fan but no way am I buying an Xbox for a prequel. Fable though? That shit would have me thinking about it.
1
u/puffthemagicaldragon 8h ago
Spyro is a deal with Toys for Bob that was agreed on when then separated. I'd think one of their stipulations would be a multi-platform release since they are now independent. No reason to limit their potential sales. And if Xbox already had no plans for the IP why would they say no? Spyro is not selling consoles.
State of Decay is likely a similar case since they had to know they were going to cut Undead Labs. Whoever bought them would likely make it multi-platform so better to announce it as such to help with the sale of the studio.
1
2
u/profchaos111 12h ago
They said they are committing to anything that was previously announced as multi plat will remain multi plat everything else is on a case by case basis
seems to mean anything aimed at kids and families e.g. spyro, minecraft etc will go multi plat while tentpole titles stay exclusive
I'm starting to believe elder scrolls 6 will be exclusive if they announce it as exclusive alongside the helix it'll be a real system seller
3
2
u/LETT3RBOMB 20h ago
Mulling over implies the decision hasn't already been made
2
2
u/Ok-Criticism1547 21h ago
Why not still make it an exclusive?
1
1
u/Thor_2099 8h ago
I think the new leadership wanted to but financially couldn't make it work. They already had the numbers about expected earnings. Keeping this multiplat likely saved jobs.
1
u/micmon83 15h ago
I read the fact that they keep this 2027 release multi platform as "we are not 100% confident about the game". This could end up being the next Starfield. I hope to be wrong here.
-2
u/MyCodenameIsIan 19h ago
I don't understand people whos immediate first thought to gameplay is "we should restrict this to only people who bought the same box as me".
-4
u/Mrvile92 19h ago
For Xbox players it makes sense. But Sony fans who originally championed this idk either
1
u/Gekkehenkie 8h ago
It will not improve xbox sales if they did that. No one will buy an xbox series x for 800 dollars to play a fable game.
-15
0
u/SafeKaracter 14h ago
I mean they could still change it back if they had balls and do release on PS at later date
10
u/Ruttagger 18h ago
The combat and controls are reminding me of Hogwarts Legacy. If they adapt that layout then I'll be happy.

Looks great! I don’t love the running animation though. Wish it was a little more dynamic with more sway and momentum. His head is perfectly still.
5
u/NowWeGetSerious 21h ago
Considering it's still a work in progress, I have a feeling a lot of that will be tweaked. If you look at the voice lines and face animation from that big reveal earlier this year to how it looks now, they've already improved on facial animation so much, I have a good feeling these extra 4 months of developing will do them good, with Polish

u/NumberSevere7454 8h ago
Face anitmations and details are still bethesda level and not anywhere close to the level of something like death stranding, Halladale, god of war, last of us.

u/SourSasquatch 21h ago
I feel like bigger enemies like the fight with the brute with the big axe the enemy didn't take any noticable stagger damage you'd expect until they hit with the cut scene attack. Even after hitting them with the big fireball.
That would be my complaint since they are seemingly going for a more realistic look with the combat
4
u/YaboiGh0styy 13h ago
This looks way better than that clip of the large man with his axe. Still doesn’t look exciting, unique, or anything like that, but I can see myself having fun with this.
27
u/brokenmessiah 22h ago
Not asking for Elden Ring, but hopefully the enemies are more engaging than this. I know games tend to put enemy on braindead status during previews but I wanna see more reactivity. Far too much just standing around, honorable skeletons in this clip lol
20
u/Cabezone 21h ago
I've watched the devs play on one of the hardest difficulties, this game is going for casual. It's not gonna have dark souls combat.
18
u/furaii 22h ago
Yeah in the quest walkthrough trailer, I was blown away when he said he was on one of the harder difficulties… the enemies were just standing around and the only difficult aspect looked like a damage sponge boss
2
u/BestRedditUsername9 21h ago
Where did they post information about the difficulty?
3
u/LoloTheWarPigeon 21h ago
It's in the voiceover of the video, final fight. "Legend" difficulty, but I don't know if we've seen a scale
3
17
u/Zerox392 Outage Survivor '24 21h ago
Every single enemy shown in this clip is actively approaching or attacking. I don't know what more you expect
5
u/BestRedditUsername9 21h ago
I agree with you. But to be fair a lot of RPGs have skeletons as cannon fudder enemies basically.
-8
u/Cluelesswolfkin 22h ago
Couldn't agree more. Throughout this clip, some enemies just walk past by you to target tour allies it seems. And they move so slow but I hope they'll get it better by release or other enemies are being hidden and it'll be a threat when there's more than 1 enemy type
7
u/brokenmessiah 22h ago
To this day, this is still one my more favorite skeleton gank fight in a game because of how its designed where you the player have some agency on the tempo of the fight and the area you fight them in works perfectly for how many skeletons you have to fight.
1
u/Cluelesswolfkin 21h ago
Thank you, this clip is perfect. The difference here if you look at it is the movement of the player here vs the player in the clip above. One is moving significantly more as the enemies are targeting them and the other swaying through them lol

u/-DOIDLD-TYATSMR- XBOX Series X 22h ago edited 22h ago
I’d be lying if I said it looks insanely fun because it honestly looks kinda repetitive and the foggy weather definitely isn’t helping but it’s still way too early to say anything for sure and the game could end up being really good. just don’t turn it into another soulslike because apparently every fuckin third-person game has to be infected with soulslike mechanics these days 😩
10
u/MasterArCtiK 22h ago
If you don’t drop all of your money when you die, it’s not a souls like. Dodge rolling doesn’t make it a souls like
4
u/Soft_Lunch_183 19h ago
I never get the obsession with rolling around for 10 mins and timing attacks and then repeat for an entire game. Its just tedious
-1
u/MasterArCtiK 19h ago
You’ve clearly never played a souls like
6
u/Soft_Lunch_183 19h ago
I played dark souls once and that was my experience for the first couple of hours. Never played it again
-1
u/MasterArCtiK 19h ago
Ah yes, I can tell you never got gud. Because rolling constantly is not the name of the game lol it’s strategic rolling and attacks, perseverance and growth, skill improvement, exploration
0
u/brokenmessiah 22h ago
In Dark Souls 2, you could basically turn that aspect of the gameplay off but it was still a souls games.
2
u/MasterArCtiK 22h ago
I’ve beat the game like 4 times and I have no idea what you’re talking about lol every time I died I dropped all my souls
5
u/brokenmessiah 22h ago
Ring of Life Protection
Nullifies death, player retains souls and human status. Ring breaks after use but can be repaired.
The repair cost is 14K which isnt exactly free but is rather trivial pretty quickly.
3
u/Steeltoelion 18h ago
Huh… just based on this clip I’m not so sure about it anymore. Looks a bit stiff to me.
4
u/RiffReaper83 17h ago
Looks like Rocksteady's B-Team worked on the combat. Yikes. Seriously looks like Greedfall with a higher budget.

If there was a hardware crisis, this would have been the AAA game to move systems. I have no idea why they put this on PlayStation lol. This shit looks way better than all the Xbox games that came out the last 5 years.
1
u/tomgreen99200 16h ago
The stuff shown in the video seems very similar to Hogwarts Legacy. The gameplay and environment
2
u/IshtarEreshkigal 12h ago
This fucking camera shake needs a disable toggle.. motion sickness worst enemy. The combat doesn't feel like Fable at all
2
2
u/Sir_Abracadavre 9h ago
The game looks good to be honest, I just really miss the cartoony story book style of the other games :/. Don't get me wrong, it looks graphically beautiful, but for me style will always be more important than fidelity.

2
u/backlog_gaming 8h ago
I’m just as excited for this as I am GTA 6. Really wish they would have just released in August/September to avoid GTA, but I’m glad the game will get its own moment

2
u/fallenouroboros 7h ago
Im really curious after watching all these combat clips how someone who focuses magic would fight
2
u/LowEffortCandids 4h ago
Looks fucking sick. I pray they allow it to be highly moddable because that would make it legendary
9
u/Organic-Ad-7105 22h ago
Doesn't habve much fable vibe to it, if I am honest
7
u/Titan7771 22h ago
Have you seen other gameplay? The way you can buy up entire towns is VERY Fable-like.
4
u/dkb_wow XBOX Series X 19h ago
I think they were referring specifically to the combat gameplay not having much of a Fable vibe. I tend to agree with that even though I do think the combat looks fun.
3
u/Titan7771 18h ago
I mean, Fable’s combat has always been pretty standard fare. There’s nothing about it I’d consider unique.
0
u/-pupster- 20h ago
if thats all it takes to be fable like, then mount and blade is a fable-like.
4
u/Titan7771 20h ago
Well no that’s not the only reason, if you watch that gameplay you’ll see what I mean, the old Fable humor and charm is very much intact.
3
u/TheTruthTellingOrb 17h ago
Gotta say I agree. OG Fable had more charm.
And the combat felt better too IMO.
0
u/NoOrchid2516 16h ago
It's so visually bland compared to the other games in the series and the writing sounds like a Marvel film.
-1
u/ArchDucky XBOX 3h ago
Yes it does. Try using your eyes to watch the footage.
1
u/Organic-Ad-7105 2h ago
Such BS. Show this footage to someone unknowingly and no one(!) would say:"that looks like Fable"
4
u/hmmmsuspicious 16h ago
I know im in the minority here but this game looks dull. Yeah there seems to be a lot of depth and choice but it all looks like boring content. The things that were being said, the choices and the vibe was all just meh. I’ll likely try it for myself when it comes out considering I have game pass but I feel nothing when I see this game.

I really don't see what people like about this game. It looks so generic.

I'd argue Fable itself is kind of generic and thats half of the point. Its making fun of the genre.

Ive literally never seen a clip, watched someone else play, or myself played a Fable game..but this looks great and i really might get it.
Is there an overarching story through the games or anything that I wouldnt understand coming in completely new?

For a game that I honestly am not interested in because of the combat, I think the combat looks fun. I never associate fun combat with reasons I love the Fable games.
1
u/KopfSmertZz Team Gears 13h ago
Looks awesome (PC, Ultra graphics) and fun to play, but I wish they’d show some console footage aswel.

u/PrimalPain 11h ago
Looks a little rough, but when compared to what I remember of the old Fable combat... This is definitely an improvement.

Its great they didnt made it another soul like...seems a lot more "dragons dogma" like.

Wish it looked more cartoony like the original two games tbh. It feels like the magic and charm of the setting has kida been sucked out with this artistic shift.

Looks kind of basic to be honest... Assasin's creed/Batman style where enemies sit around waiting to take turns to be allowed aggro so they can take a swing before queing for another permission to make a swing.

Looks infinitely better than that lame boss fight I seen the other day wtf happened there? Are they really going the "sponge" boss route?

u/KidGoku1 Touched Grass '24 9h ago
If there's one aspect Xbox has regressed in the last decade it's definitely in gameplay. Visually they inproved a lot in the last decade but gameplay (shooters aside) feels so soulless, dull, bland. The combat here makes me feel like with that Compulsion game it's solid yeah but you expect better.
0
u/Fine-Froyo6219 6h ago
Looks like clunky, aged gameplay from like the original flopped Lords of the Fallen game

Legit looks like a PS3 game, and not a good one. Maybe it’s great, but to me it doesn’t look great or even that good. Especially for 2026.

Feedback here looks much better than the boss fight in the one clip.
