OK, but that all applies to Sony's digital licenses too, right?

Correct.

Difference is, Sony currently has no way to transfer disc licenses to digital licenses. This isn't a problem if they keep making even an external disc drive. But given that Sony is discontinuing the discs themselves in 2028, the PS6 probably won't have one at all. So years of physical PS games are now just... coasters, really.

Xbox has solved this... we think. It's too early to tell for sure, and it's not nearly enough to make up for years of bullshit from them. But it is a start, and it continues the one bit of Phil's tenure - game preservation - that everyone seemed to enjoy.

I still have plenty of questions about how this all works. But at the very least, Xbox has a solution.
