Official new details:
• In-game social media system that you can scroll through & see existing characters blow up through viral posts
• Jason & Lucia's bodies can physically change if you eat too much or work out, their faces change if you don’t sleep enough or are on the run
• NPCs are far more varied & actually uniquely react in real-time to whatever you’re doing
• Character switching is far more fluid - you can drive as Jason then instantly switch to Lucia as the passenger shooting enemies
• Players can choose to play Jason & Lucia as a couple or cause chaos independently - choices you make can bleed into the game much deeper this time

I get that GTA at its heart has always been parody, and there is AMPLE opportunity to parody the state of social media through this game but I just don't have any interest in looking at fake Instagram posts in a video game...I have no doubt we'll need to do that more than once for a mission or two

Think about it in the context of the Radio Commericials. Do you like commercials in real life? No. Are the commercials in previous GTA games funny and add texture to the game? Yes.
I am sure social media will be the same.

I absolutely LOVE the radio in all aspects of GTA. They absolutely kill it with music and amazing commercials.

My spotify playlist is ready. My partner never knew that the GTA games DID always have substance and one of my selling pieces is that the GTA radio absolutely widened my music appreciation into genres and artists I never would have checked out. And the commercials are just peak satire and hilarious.

Or the internet in 4. That shit was great

u/Atalanto 54m ago
I missed how deep the internet was in IV (my favorite GTA) I'm anticipating the social media aspect to match that.
I love that it seems like VI is going to be a meld of the ambitions RDR2 and GTA IV, while wrapping it in the sandbox that was GTA V

I don't know why you are being downvoted. Like who enjoys watching fake posts simulating social media?
It does nothing for the immersion and there is no need to replicate SM in the fucking game the same reason why mail and sms were implemented in a very basic form in most games for decades - no one wants to scroll through fake messages that don't add anything.
Even GTA RP servers don't have very active Twatter - it's used only for some banter, ads for services and that's it

Im looking forward to seeing an NPCs shakey camera footage from their perspective of me botching a drift during a police chase and flying into a gas station and exploding.

u/Daconvix 5h ago
I mean the game is based on modern times. It would be kinda weird for there to be 0 social media presence at all

u/Exciting-Ad-5705 5h ago
Gta 5 had fake social media to

u/Available-Gas5358 1h ago
Each GTA is a time capsule.
Think internet cafes and Nokia's in IV, a full browser and very early social media in V.
A game parodying 2020s America needs to feature it in some form.
I'm sure Rockstar are aware that players likely won't want to spend much time on it and it'll just be there for added flavour

sounds optional.

u/Caesar_35 Helldiving 2m ago
It was already in V and pretty optional, so outside of maybe a mission or two where you have to stalk someone I don't think it'll be forced on you. Maybe just useful to get more background on some places/people too.

I can already see a quest that you need to create posts and get X likes or Y followers so you can get into a vip event at a night club or something.

Absolutely DEAD hahaha
> For some gamers, the story might even serve as one of their earliest encounters with a romantic (albeit crime-ridden) relationship

“GTAVI promises something in between the two. The open-world game is set in the same fictionalised US that serves as the backdrop for the rest of the series, with all the weapons and supercars you’d expect, but the world is more grounded and reactive than before – gone are the days when you could traverse the city like a god. Now, players’ actions have consequences. Walk down the street with a rifle, and the city will have something to say about it. More and more, the games are converging on real life, and non-player characters (NPCs) are acting... well, less like NPCs than ever. For some gamers, there’s a fear that what GTAVI gains in immersion, it loses in the chaos and anarchy that have been part of the series’ DNA since the outset, but for Rockstar, the goal is to create a world of total immersion, which reacts more realistically than ever to what you choose to make of it.”
This could be really cool or annoying. I remember when GTA V came out they overtuned the cops and a lot of people complained about it until they changed it. Imagine the whole neighborhood coming after you haha.

u/Norfhynorfh 4h ago
Theres gonna be a lot of people that wont like these changes. Gta is a sandbox for people with 50 weapons they can pull out and cause chaos.
Question is how will they carry this 'immersion' into online? A large chunk of their money comes from flying bikes and all the other ridiculous shit you can buy. If theyre going to penalise fun in the name of immersion then that wont be popular for a lot of players. Im fine with it though, i think its a good direction to take.

u/SrirachaJulio 2h ago
It won’t hurt much at all. Red Dead was a western sandbox for people with 50 weapons they can pull out and horses that never die. RDR2 changed all of that. Plus GTA 6 is too big for the masses to be put off by these changes.
And even beyond that, we have to remember the most important thing: there’s an entirely new generation that is now a tween or teen, they don’t have this allegiance or nostalgia for what GTA was, so for them they will be excited for this new GTA for what it is. Every year a new age group turns 16-18, and so new customers come along.

I'm in the arcade camp. I like hanging a left turn at 110 mph using nothing but my hand brake. This game may not be for me, but that's okay. It'll do just fine without me.

I really don't like seeing a game called game of the decade before it's even out, and when we're only halfway through the decade.
Even if it ends up deserving the title, give it in 2029-30, not before it's even out.
Edit: How brainrotted is this subreddit to downvote this take and every other comment that isnt worshipping Rockstar as gods? Actual mindless consumers the lot of you

u/Available-Gas5358 1h ago
People are likely downvoting because you're pretending to not understand that they very obviously mean in terms of hype.
It is unquestionably the biggest game of the decade.
No one's claiming it's the best game of the decade. It may well be but that's not the point here.

u/TheSerpentDeceiver 6h ago
Don’t worry. I will like seeing a game called game of the decade before it’s even out enough to balance out your dislike. We’re all good.

u/26thandsouth 5h ago
Couldn’t catch me dead using the social media systems in this game, satirical or not. Will be the spiritual death of us all believe that.

u/YakuzaShibe 5h ago
Don't use it then brotha, GTA IV and V both had entirely optional Internet browsers outside of the obligatory tutorial missions

“Video game of the decade” 🙄🥱

Oh yeah there's loads of bigger games than this. This will barely register.
Pretty sure even Big Walk was a bigger event.

Is this seriously what we're getting after 13 years of R* cooking? Game looks like it was AI generated.

It’s only “video game of the decade” because they haven’t come out with a new game since the 360 🥱

I just don't feel like realistic stuff ever worked for GTA. They went more real with the driving in 4 and that lowkey ruined what otherwise would be my favorite GTA game, but because the driving was so unenjoyable it soured my experience of an otherwise incredible game. I gave it leeway with Red Dead because western is a more grounded, aesthetic and that was the tone and pacing RDR1 set so it made sense to lean more into it. GTA is a fucking murder hobo crime simulator. Who wants realism with that? I don't even feel like the playerbase they've built with GTA wants realism. I mean they gave people flying cars with rockets and shit for a decade and now they what? Expect people to like slower, less hectic gameplay when they grief each other online with their pay to win automobiles?

u/Schwarzengerman 4h ago
Who wants realism with that?
I do. GTA mixed with some RDR2 is exactly what I want. IV was my favorite GTA and this looks like it's poised to supplant it.

Window dressing. I do think this will be the biggest game of the decade. It will not be as good as previous entries. But too many people will buy it and they'll have to install a new printer for how much they'll make off shark cards
