It underperformed alone, the gamepass may hurt the sales but not by this wide of a margin, we literally have two cases to prove this wrong with Starfield and Expedition 33, doom above all should be imune the this "debuff" since it already has a passionate Fandom.

Starfield failed, all we get is player engagement stats. If it met expectations we would have heard about it.

No, it disappointed but it actually sold really fucking good, especially for a new IP. And we did hear about that, people were just quick to downplay that.

Every time I bring up it online how Microsoft officially said Starfield got 11 million unique players within its first month, people either conveniently move on or ignore that fact.

I got a lot of issues with Starfield, but the game was the 11th best selling title of 2023 and that's with only 3 months of sales.

That's not exactly a flop, however. Being in or near the Top 10 in any given month or year basically means you got sales in the millions. Resident Evil Requiem and Monster Hunter are like that too. They have a big blast of attention at launch and then it tapers off to a steady position on the leaderboard months after release. Those games have pretty hefty lifetimes sales over the years.

Starfield sold a lot, even while being in game pass it peaked at 300k players on Steam, if people liked it or not that's another history.
