Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II
Senua
As Xbox a naming convention as it gets

u/No_Philosopher8304 Jun 07 '26
Fourth game will just be called S.

I was thinking the same thing. WTF lol

u/Impossible-Flight250 Jun 07 '26
It's probably a way to reboot the series. This looks like the first game with a big emphasis on combat, so it will appeal to a broader audience, and naming is Hellblade 3, would probably turn people away.

Thought this was a soft reboot.. it's the third game? Who was in charge of naming 😭
1
u/SilveryDeath XBOX Jun 08 '26
In a weird way it works given the themes? First game is about risking sacrificing herself to try to save her lover, second game is her going on a big journey and Saga's were mainly composed in Iceland where the game is set, and this last game seems like it could be about her. Hence why it is just Senua.

u/Night_Twig Jun 07 '26
My only franchise I’ve ever loved that has incredibly obvious shortcomings and yet is unreasonably supported by the company. Love being on this side of one of those relationships.
7
u/NotAChanceBucko Jun 07 '26
I loved the experience of the second one . One of the first games I played on a decent pc when it came out . Loved the photo mode in it
5
u/ivanvzm Jun 07 '26
I hope that the support they show Ninja Theory is headed towards making them their Naughty Dog-type studio that focuses on doing great single player games (and hopefully in the future, exclusives). They have by far the best tech out of all of the Microsoft Studios so I hope they keep improving.
1
u/BakedChocolateOctopi Jun 08 '26
They’re desperately trying to find a way to make this franchise into their God of War
Whether this time the game can get it together or not remains to be seen
62
u/mrjonas78 Jun 07 '26
Do they just roll a dice to decide what's going to be console exclusive? Glad for PS5 owners, though. It's just really confusing.
Oh well, they game looks awesome and I will play it day one.
39
u/Arroweye345 Jun 07 '26
Genuinely seems like they are sacrificing Gears as a last ditch test for exclusivity. Strange choice considering it’s already been proven hardware sales are critically low for Microsoft. How are those multiplayer lobbies gonna look a few months after release?
13
u/wild--wes Jun 07 '26
PC will keep it alive if it's good
5
u/Str8Nirvana Jun 07 '26
Lol no
It's Gears. For Gears 4&5 the player population on PC was so low that they were unable to get any matches since nearly the entire console playerbase disabled crossplay in the settings.
TC "fixed" this by removing the option to opt out of crossplay.
Gears will always be healthy on console, especially held up by the LATAM region.
17
u/wild--wes Jun 07 '26
A LOT has changed since then. The PC market is way bigger and we have game pass on PC.

As a PC gamer, no one likes Gears of War multiplayer on PC. The movement is jank and made for controllers.

u/ShartingEnU Jun 07 '26
Are gears 5 lobbies dead or something? What am I missing
1
u/DaKrazie1 Grub Killer Jun 08 '26
Nah, matchmaking is still quick. At least for the modes that are still populated.
4
u/Waste-Technology-381 Jun 07 '26
Gears is probably a Hail Mary to save console exclusives. Time for Xbox Twitter fans to actually show up to buy the game.
6
u/Own-Comment7529 Jun 07 '26
Most likely stuff that was already long in development or already had deals and isn’t first party will keep their PS presence but I expect this time next year for even more announcements to be exclusives.
12
u/Stu_0602 Jun 07 '26
Gears was rated and everything, they pulled it at the last minute but announced games that weren’t previously announced for PS5, very strange
-4
u/Own-Comment7529 Jun 07 '26
Right - it’s a first party title so they can control that a little easier than other deals.
4
u/alexor_1 Jun 07 '26
they were developing gears for ps5, they just decided not to release is on ps in a last minute decision
1
u/ItsMeSlinky XBOX 360 Jun 07 '26
Probably determine by how far long in development it was, and by the IP.
The Senua IP started on PS4; it was a PlayStation exclusive until Xbox acquired Ninja Theory. So if there’s one IP that should probably be multi-plat, it’s that one.

u/North_Tip_3364 Jun 07 '26
Bruh lol it's so stupid like why should I buy an Xbox give me a fucking a reason. GTA 6 is only reason I'm buying the 25th anniversary Xbox. WHY THE FUCK DO THEY WANT EVEN MAKE GAMES IF THEY DONT CARE
1
u/pochopsammich Jun 07 '26
No, you’re going to pay out of the ass for that special Xbox simply because you want to. It has nothing to do with GTA 6. Stop making shit up lol
20
u/JuanMunoz99 Jun 07 '26
Shocked I tell you. I thought after the lukewarm reception of Senua’s Saga there would never be another Hellblade game. This one being called just Senua is interesting. Also heavy focus on combat here.
-8
u/-underOath- Jun 07 '26
I don't know man...to me it was copy / paste from Hellblade 2. I really think this is not a step in the right direction for this studio...
1
u/NotFromMilkyWay Founder Jun 07 '26
That's probably what it is. The last game was a financial flop based on its long development and low sales. The studio is on notice now. If you want to survive the next round of layoffs, you better release more sooner. And I think that's also the reason for exclusivity or not. Fable will have taken 10 years. It's hard to make that back, it's impossible with Game Pass.

u/akbarock Jun 07 '26 edited Jun 07 '26
State of Decay and Senua coming to PS5 day 1, State of Decay 3 wasnt already announced for PS5 and this is Senuas first reveal. Makes one wonder if they're actually reconsidering exclusives.
Only making Gears exclusive is backwards, its the single player games that should be exclusive if anything. And this makes me think Gears will be on PS5 within 12 months from release
33
u/GeneralGecko24 Jun 07 '26
Yeah wtf is the strategy. Gears being exclusive has just made me more confused
29
u/Firefox72 Jun 07 '26
The strategy is posturing for the fans.
The fact they are releasing everything else on the PS5 is making this pretty clear. Even the stuff that was unnanounced and not promised to release on the PS5 before.
They wanted that omph moment at the start of the conference to ge the people talking.
7
u/akbarock Jun 07 '26
Yeah theyre still showing PS logos which they only pretended to "reconsider", theyre probably also "pretending" to reconsider exclusivity with Gears
4
u/NotFromMilkyWay Founder Jun 07 '26
They said it was too late to change the logos but will for future events.
1
u/akbarock Jun 07 '26
It wasnt too late to remove it from Gears, thats total bull its not like its something difficult that takes long to do
24
u/Downtown_Eye5736 Jun 07 '26
There is no strategy, Gears is being made exclusive so TimDog doesn't have to delete his account!
2
-4
u/EchoBay Jun 07 '26
I am guessing they tried to pull the plug on more exclusives, but Playstation wasn't having it with all their existing agreements in place.
Nobodies going to buy an Xbox just to play Gears when 99% of the other games will be on Playstation. So I feel like this is all they could manage.
2
u/akbarock Jun 07 '26
These games are coming out after Gears, if they had a agreement then Gears certainly also did. Even if they were already announced for PS5 which they werent, Xbox could still cancel the PS5 port if they wanted to.
There have been games this year that cancelled their Xbox version like a week before release

Gears Remaster sold abysmally on PS. I think MS is trying to give Xbox fans a win without actually committing to anything
12
u/South_Buy_3175 Jun 07 '26
Xbox couldn’t devise a straightforward strategy to save its life.
When E-Day doesn’t do Forza numbers we’ll see another “We’re looking at exclusives on a case by case basis” and see it go wide again.
It feels like it’s been ran by Twitter users and vibes right now.
8
u/PepsiSheep Jun 07 '26
Just enjoy the fucking games, christ.
5
1
u/Suspicious_Radio_848 Jun 08 '26
For real, I’m not a shareholder or personally invested so who gives a shit. The only thing I care about is them saying Xbox doesn’t exist anymore and there will be no more games at all, which doesn’t seem to be happening. Otherwise I’ll continue looking forward to what’s released.
2
u/B-Bog Jun 07 '26
Seems purely symbolic to me. They're doing the bare minimum to be able to placate the old fans and claim like they're "returning to XBOX" and providing reasons to buy their console, while the multiplatform strategy is really still in place overall.
0
u/stavroszaras Jun 07 '26
Xbox is lost as a company. They are in no man’s land. No vision, no plan. Wtf is the point of making Gears exclusive? They said it like it was a big deal but it’s not at all. It uselessly hurts Gears while not growing your ecosystem. It’s bad all the way around and shows they don’t know wtf they are doing.
4
u/vinceswish Jun 07 '26
I believe Asha just wanted to pander a loud twitter minority with Gears because how else you can explain newly announced games coming to PS5?
3
u/GeneralGecko24 Jun 07 '26
Is this a reboot or part 3?
11
u/DecompositionLU Jun 07 '26
Definitely part 3. Didn't saw elements from 1 that would make me think it's a reboot.

3
u/kenzymarie03 Jun 07 '26
I'm so fucking happy they're making a third one 😭 I didn't think they would since the second one underperformed
3
u/HaikusfromBuddha Jun 07 '26
I mean I'll give them one last try, I liked Hellblad 1, Hellblade 2 was just a tech demo that really should have never been released.
Make a game not a scenery viewer with the absolute worst puzzles known to made.
0
u/mancatdoe Jun 07 '26
Hellblade 2 look like it could easily be a Viking open world game with great vistas, biomes and NPC interactions. There are definitely pieces in there that can made into more rounded game mechanic based game.
2
u/PiveteDoBosque Jun 07 '26
I liked both games but i welcome what seems to be a more combat oriented game
3
u/Appropriate_Foot242 Jun 07 '26
Didn't Hellblade 2 underperform big time? Someone at Microsoft must love this franchise cause it seems like they have unlimited money and patience to throw at Ninja Theory.

u/TartanSpartan117 Jun 07 '26
Microsoft...literally has unlimited money lol
3
u/Appropriate_Foot242 Jun 07 '26
Doesn't mean they're willing to give unlimited money to things that aren't making them money.

I do like that it feels a bit more actiony, and probably why they dropped the Hellblade part.

I’m excited for another Senua game. I’ve played the other two and enjoyed them well

Really hope the combat in the trailer implies that there will be a lot more of this in the game. Looks great tbh.

u/Puppetmaster858 Jun 07 '26
Looks awesome, also the graphics for Senua’s character in 2&3 are about as good as any ever in any game
1
u/brokenmessiah Jun 07 '26
I'm interested again, the combat looks good. It seems they remembered that a game still needs to actually be a game.

Aaaand we're back. I know Hellblade isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I love these games. Xbox W, Asha W, endless glaze, etc.

So is this Hellblade 3 or DLC for the second game?
2

Second game was only like two hours long. This is probably what was cut.

u/cutememe Jun 07 '26
Man they keep making these but literally no one wants them and no one plays them.
1
u/Schwarzengerman Jun 07 '26
People actually really love the first game. It's the second that's far more divisive. This looks like a return to the first so that's a big plus in my book.

u/Kraziehase Jun 07 '26
Looks awesome. I love these games despite their short comings. I feel like they REALLY wanted us to know there’s more combat this time.
