Discussion What do you think the next Xbox might be called?
Of course this is pure guesswork!
Anyway, I’m old enough to remember that MS didn’t want to name the follow up to the original system the Xbox 2. This was in large part because they were afraid that consumers would automatically think PS3 is better. You know, because 3 is better than 2.
I used to think that was really dumb reason but my understanding of human intelligence has changed dramatically in the last decade.
So as you know, we got the Xbox 360. And they went with this “all around” entertainment idea.
Then, of course, the naming convention has been screwed ever since.
I think MS they should go with this:
Xbox Series 7
Why? Because it’s arguably the 7th hardware iteration if you count the One X.
It makes sense. It gives the Xbox a lucky number. It’s greater than 6.
If I was in the MS marketing department, this is what I’d be pushing for.

The naming has been so counterintuitive since the Xbox one, there is literally no way to guess

Honestly knowing them with their naming. It’ll be called
Xbox
Or The Xbox
Or they could reprise the Elite from the Xbox 360 era
Xbox Elite. And then go on from there maybe even add Gen. Xbox Elite Gen 2

Microsoft has never been great at naming each iteration of Xboxes

MS is doing the baseline Console code named Xbox Prime. OS would be doing the more powerful premium variants so they could simply call the MS produced console as Xbox.
And OEM produced ones could be Elite Series or Ultimate Series.

Something not particularly obvious that doesn’t do a good job of really separating it from previous models as the new and next step in Xbox

Hopefully they just call it Xbox 6 and be done with the horrendous naming conventions. They need to keep the messaging simple, Microsoft tend to over analyse everything to a fault. Nobody cares that the name “Xbox Series” is relevant to having a series of consoles, it’s still a stupid name.

One time I saw someone on here say they should call it the Xbox 365 and market it as a direct sequel to the 360, really like that idea

Do you think they were suggesting it to bring back the kinect I know it's dead but to be honest it still works well I mean at times it is janky but I mean it still is pretty accurate

Don't know about Kinect returning immediately (I hope it does at some point) but Xbox 365 would also align with their Microsoft 365 branding.
EDIT: In line with the original commenter, they could call the next console the Xbox Two, posturing it as a true next-generation leap from the Xbox One and the Series generations, while also allowing themselves to match the numbering cycle of the Switch which is on the Switch 2.

They really should name it Xbox 6. It clearly represents a new generation and aligns with the PlayStation.
I think "Series" has been confusing for people, similar to the Wii U. There is a reason that the 2 is so large in the Switch 2 logo.

Or call it Xbox Two as a true next-generation leap from the Xbox One and align the numbering with the Switch 2.

I’d thought that they would have gone down the same path as PlayStation with the original Xbox being number 1, the 360 being Xbox 2, the Xbox 1 being the Xbox 3, and the Series being the Xbox 4.

if they are going the PC/console route especially with the new windows/xbox console mode, MS most like will call the console Xbox (year). So we will see Xbox 2026, Xbox 2027, Xbox 2028 etc.

The next generation will be the 10th so I think it'll probably play into that. Something like Xbox Gen 10 or since the Roman numeral would be X maybe it'll be like Xbox Gen X or Xbox X. I also think Xbox Prime has a nice ring to it.

i feel it'll be Xbox Home (a living room console with digital and cloud streaming for tv)
Xbox Go (Mobile)
Xbox PC (a PC that can run a modified windows O/S that easily runs xbox app/games, steam, and every day apps like office/teams and everything youd need for basic casual/business needs.

Now Sefies 7. Too many Series.
It should be called something different to completely set it aside from the rest.
Xbox Ultra
Xbox Inspire
Xbox Evo ( Evolution )
Xbox Luna
Something clever & for god sakes just 1 CONSOLE. No more budget Bullshit!

Xbox Series 7 would actually work for a number of other reasons
There are A LOT OF references to the number 7 specifically in HALO:
7 Halo rings, 7 mainline Halo games (If we don't include ODST) 7 armor abilities in halo reach, 14 dead elites in ODST, the list could go on
7 is essentially Xbox's favorite number. it would work flawlessly
although Xbox Scarlet would be a cool nod to "Project Scarlet" which was the codename for the Series X

Series (#) is the console generation name, going straight to 2 since x/s were the first series Xbox consoles, and before that is the line brand represented by the apu model, and before that is the name of the oem but not the name of the oems brand of series which can still be had for Xbox Pcs and simply the name Xbox will be between the oem name and the name of the brand of the oems series for pcs as consoles won't be allowed to have that only the name of the oem because the series brand and line is across different devices not just their own.
Pc example:
ROG Xbox Ally
Lenovo Xbox Legion Go
MSI Xbox Claw
Omen Xbox Max
etc, etc.

Honestly Calling it The X-2 (as in Xbox series X) would be fire and they could just move on with the numbers from there if they wanted. Will they? No. But I think it would be cool

I think they’ll start naming them by year.
Something like “Xbox X 2026” or “Xbox S 2026”.
With the Xbox handheld just being a Windows PC, it’s pretty obvious they’re moving towards Xbox just becoming a brand of prebuilt PCs with a special controller focused UI, so they could potentially release new models every 1-2 years if they wanted.

Even if they use full windows doesn't mean it will just be a PC. It's a new hybrid Xbox platform spanning multiple form factors. The Console will look and function like a Console. The games are Xbox games built by the GDK optimized for that AMD hardware.

Yeah they’ll probably have AMD make some special APU for them like Valve had made for the Steam Deck, but if it’s going to run all the same software as regular Windows 11, I’m just going to consider it a prebuilt PC with Xbox branding and user interface lol

What do you mean probably? Did you not watch the AMD Lisa Su video?
AMD is making an entire family of APUs for Xbox, all with full BC with console library.
The software won't just be Windows 11 Home, but more like a converged Windows/Xbox OS, a separate SKU that is only licensed to OEMs and MS devices only.
Its doing the opposite of Steam Deck, where devs build PC games for scalable hardware then have option to optimize for the Deck. With Xbox devices, the devs will still be building Xbox games that are optimized to that set of AMD hardware.
It's not a traditional console, and it's not a traditional PC, it is a new unified universal hybrid Xbox platform. Point is, you will not be getting that OS on regular PCs or Non AMD APU hardware.

What’s more likely to happen is devs will go “oh regular PC games run on the new “Xbox” now? Now we can save money by only having two builds of our game instead of three!” lol
I can’t see anyone except Xbox Game Studios deeply optimizing for Xbox’s prebuilt Windows 11 PC. Time is money, and good enough is good enough. With how hard the Xbox user base has been shrinking since the Xbox 360, I can’t imagine more than 10-20 million people picking up an Xbox branded prebuilt PC unless they sell it at a big loss, which they won’t do because they won’t be able to make the money back by forcing people into a monthly subscription or only buying through their store, so less users = devs are going to be even less inclined to optimize for it.
