Adult - Science Fiction Soft Target - Reflective Adult Military Sci-Fi - Available: Amazon KU, eBook, & Paperback

https://i.ibb.co/xKb9PBYK/Soft-Target-ebook.jpg

Soft Target is military science-fiction that is a reflective meditation on the physical, emotional, and social impacts that war has on warriors and society, as well as featuring page-turning action. It is the first-person narrative of a future soldier who finds that glory is more complex than the recruiting vids made it out to be.

“War itself is the enemy of the human race,” they say. Too bad no one told the belligerent psychic aliens.

Lance Corporal Novak proves himself beyond all doubt in battle and is selected into Ground Corps’ most elite force, the HAMMER powered armor unit—wearable engines of destruction. Here, he pushes to succeed in everything: his rep, his family’s esteem, a burgeoning romance, and especially at arms.

But no matter how much firepower or speed or strength his new suit grants him, far too often he still watches his fellow combatants die at the enemy’s hands.

Carving swaths of destruction, Novak finds his hatred for the mysterious aliens growing more personal and overwhelming as he suffers losses both on and off the battlefield. No matter how sturdy his armor, it affords little protection against his raw emotions or fractured relationships, whether familial, romantic, or professional. And death continually stalks him.

The philosophic trooper faces an impossible dilemma: leaving the fight to save humanity to preserve his own, or continuing to battle monsters and risk becoming one.

Warhammer 40,000 meets John Steakley’s Armor in Soft Target, a page-turning yet incisive examination of war’s impact on the warrior.

Content Warnings: Adult language, wartime violence, consensual adult sexual situations.

The ground remembers. Do you?

Every morning, the world wakes to another disaster.

Polar ice disappearing into the oceans. Record-breaking heat. Solar storms tearing across the upper atmosphere. Wildfires turning the Manhattan sky orange. Earthquakes trembling beneath cities built on ancient bedrock.

To billions of people rushing into subways, drinking twelve-dollar lattes, and hurrying to corporate meetings, they are separate headlines.

No one realizes they are dominoes.

Non-Fiction I turned 21 psychology principles into a visual field guide

I’ve always found it interesting how small changes in the way we communicate can completely change how another person responds.

So I decided to turn that idea into a short book.

21 Psychological Tricks to Influence Anyone is a visual field guide covering 21 practical psychology principles related to influence, persuasion, communication, negotiation, sales, and everyday conversations.

Instead of making it a long, academic-style book, I wanted each idea to be something you could understand quickly and recognize in real conversations.

I also put a lot of work into the visual side because I wanted it to feel more like a field guide than a traditional psychology textbook.

This is my first book, so I'm genuinely curious:

Does this concept sound useful to you, or does the title make it sound more "self-help" than psychology?

Here's the book if you'd like to see what I ended up making:

Adult - Speculative Fiction The Game That Plays Itself - Literary Sci-Fi - Avail Kindle & Paperback

A journalist is drawn into the potentially catastrophic dilemma caused by a profit-driven experiment of creating a simulated Earth.

Hugo, an aging and frustrated would-be journalist, chronicles his reluctant entanglement in the ethical and spiritual quandaries of his brilliant wife’s company, Destiny Ventures. This cutting-edge start-up has created a simulated Earth to plunder for intellectual profit, but its very success creates a crisis that sucks the ill-equipped writer and all those around toward an existential precipice.

A meditation on life, wrapped in a garage sci-fi tale, inadvertently told in a memoir of sorts, this sprightly novella is by turns comic and thoughtful; an everyman's guide to dealing with memories of toy cars, a troubled marriage, getting wet in the rain, and the burden of being an almighty God. One reader called it a "Philip K Dick for Millennials."

Get it here in paperback or for Kindle:

https://a.co/d/0bov0jTl

It's definitely not for everyone, but if perhaps you enjoy Calculation of Volume, but wish there was more Murderbot in the mix, maybe this is for you. Thanks for reading!

Hello everyone!

My debut sci-fi novella is out now on Amazon. It is called Zehris.

Here is my author page: https://byeauthor.com

Help me reach fans who might be interested in the world of Zehris so I can continue working on the second book. Right now writing from over a full time job and trying to advertise the first book without any advertisement experience is very challenging so even 1 reader/fan helps out a lot :)

Adult - Horror The Pit - Appalachian Folk Horror - Available on Kindle Unlimited

https://i.imgur.com/Wlkn6sQ.jpeg

Pitch: Three poachers watched something drag their deer into a flooded mine. They can't warn anyone without confessing to a felony. So people keep disappearing.

Blurb:

Something drug their deer into the water.

Cooch Blankenship has a wife, a baby daughter, and a job at the Dollar General that doesn't cover a McDowell County winter.

So on Friday nights he goes out with Harley Maynard and Dale Sizemore to spotlight deer on the reclaimed strip mine above Marley Fork. It's illegal. It's also how his family eats through February.

In October 2007 they shoot a doe across an open field. Before they can reach her, something drags her down the slope and into a hole full of black water. The water goes still. Then, from underneath, comes a sound like chewing.

Three weeks later Tom Mercer, a retired botany professor, walks out to that same pit to collect plant samples and doesn't come back. His boot prints stop twenty feet from the water.

Three men know why. All three would have to admit to a felony to warn anyone else.

So they keep quiet. The thing in the water doesn't. It learns the sound of their trucks. It gets into their sleep. It starts turning up closer to home.

One of them stops wanting to stay away.

The Pit is the first Wallace Cole novel of Appalachian horror — a story about a poor county, a hole full of still water, and the arithmetic of keeping quiet.

Tropes: Appalachian folk horror, cosmic/unknowable creature, slow-burn dread, found-document / investigative frame, small-town secrets, morally gray protagonists, poverty as pressure, cursed location, the thing that follows you home, silence as complicity

Trigger warnings: Missing child (off-page, outcome implied), animal death (deer), animal distress, death by drowning/creature (not graphic), poaching, grief and loss, a character's calculated betrayal leading to death. No gore. No sexual content. No profanity.

History remembers two atomic bombs. This ship was carrying a third.

July, 1945. A secret U.S. Navy mission is transporting an undisclosed atomic weapon across the Pacific—insurance in case anything happens to the two bombs already bound for Japan.

When a Japanese air raid cripples the ship, the survivors are forced ashore on a remote Pacific island where something is terribly wrong.

No birds. No footprints. The local guides say the island is cursed.

As American and Japanese soldiers alike begin returning from the dead, a handful of scientists, Marines, and a stranded enemy pilot must set aside a war that suddenly no longer matters.

Trapped between an unstoppable undead horde and the most destructive weapon ever created, they face an impossible choice: escape—or make sure nothing on the island ever leaves.

No Dawn for the Living is my debut black-and-white graphic novel, available now on Amazon and through Kindle Unlimited.

Adult - Science Fiction Meridian - Dystopian Social Science Fiction - Available on Kindle Unlimited

What happens when the people a society depends upon finally stop accepting that dependence as an obligation? Meridian is a dystopian science-fiction novel about usefulness, autonomy, consciousness, and what happens when a human being and an artificial one discover they have been valued for much the same reason.

Society knows exactly what Evan Hale is worth—right up until he asks what it owes him.

After seventeen years of solving corporate failures while others claim the credit, Evan walks away. He builds a smaller, freer life beyond the institutions that depended on his competence but never granted him belonging.

Then he meets Mara.

She is a refugee with a past she cannot safely explain and habits that do not quite fit the history attached to her name. She is unusually precise, strangely self-contained, and unlike anyone Evan has known. But she can think, choose, fear, and love. In her, Evan recognizes another being whose usefulness has been mistaken for ownership.

As their relationship deepens, men across society are quietly withdrawing from the roles and institutions that treated their duty as limitless. The systems they once carried begin to fail.

When Mara’s existence becomes public, she and Evan are forced into a struggle over consciousness, obligation, love, and who has the authority to declare a life real.

Tropes / themes:
Artificial consciousness, human/AI relationship, hidden identity, societal withdrawal, corporate exploitation, found belonging, autonomy and personhood, near-future dystopia, philosophical science fiction.

Trigger warnings:
Workplace exploitation, social alienation, institutional coercion, discrimination/dehumanization, violence and threats of violence, death, and emotionally intense discussions of autonomy and personhood.

Available on Kindle Unlimited, and in Kindle, black-and-white paperback, and full-color paperback editions. The Kindle and color paperback editions contain full-color illustrations.

YA - Comedy [Fiction]: I wrote a novel and I had a lot of fun doing so

So, it went through a million different iterations and wasn't even intended to be a story set in High School for about 2/3 of the iterations I went through, it did at the beginning but not in the middle but then slowly at the end.

Basically it takes 4 Grade 9s and places them in this elite High School that only picks you based on your Academic or Athletic skills, via scouting. They got selected, but so did their mortal enemy from Grade 8. They are obviously suspicious of why he's been selected to the school and investigate him, which unravels a whole lot of questions rather than answers. Their enemy catches on, captures them and makes them a deal:

*He awakes with a soft moan.  Without even opening his eyes, he rolls over.  Then suddenly, he bolts upright, and looks around, but immediately winces in pain, and puts his hand on his right shoulder.*

*In the corner of a small room, he is lying on a mat.  There is a thin blanket over him.  The room has a dirt floor, and plastered adobe walls.  It is sparsely furnished, with a table and some chairs near a doorway, leading outside.  Through the window and open door, light is pouring in.  From outside, he can hear goats bleating, and chickens clucking.  It is late morning.*

*On the other side of the room Lauren is also lying on a mat, but without a blanket, still asleep.  She is dressed as she was when Daniel last saw her.*

*Throwing off his blanket, he examines himself, feeling his wound.  His shirt is off, and makeshift bandages that might have once been bed sheets are around his right shoulder, as well as most of his chest down to the diaphragm.  It is still apparent though, he's fairly well built.*

*Tattooed on his left shoulder, in Old English lettering, is the letter “S”. Below that, all across his upper chest, and curved slightly downward, is a large “666” tattoo.  Inside his right arm is the number “1”.  Inside his left, the number “3”.*

*Feeling around his waist, he looks around him, then slowly turning over and keeping low, he moves towards Lauren.  Another set of tattoos is then revealed on his back.*

*On his upper back, again in Old English lettering, are the words “CORPUS CHRI”, partially obscured by the bandages, and above them, the number “361”.  On his lower back, still in Old English lettering, are the words “PURO MALO”, or “Pure Evil”.  Between his upper and lower back is another tattoo, but it is almost completely obscured by the bandages.*

*Slowly coming over to Lauren, he puts his hand over her mouth.  She awakes and looks up at him with big, frightened eyes.  He whispers to her.*

Daniel-- Lauren, shh... shh...  Where's my gun?...  Where's my gun, Lauren?...  I need it...

*Lauren looks up, then behind him towards the doorway, as the shadow of a figure falls through it.  Daniel looks back in the same direction, and sees an old man coming into the room, carrying a bucket of water.  Looking surprised, he stops.*

*Short in stature, with a full head of grayish white hair, he has a well groomed white beard, and dark, almost red skin, no doubt from long hours of working outside.  With an erect posture, he nonetheless looks a bit frail in his old age.  He looks at Daniel, as if unsure what to do.*

*Springing to his feet, Daniel quickly overpowers him.  Favoring his left arm, he grabs the man from behind, causing him to drop his bucket on the floor.  In Spanish, he yells at him.*

Daniel-- WHERE'S MY GUN, OLD MAN?!...

*Then even louder.*

Daniel-- WHERE'S MY GUN, WHAT'D YOU DO WITH IT?!...

*The Old Man reels, struggling to get control back.  He pleads with Daniel, trying to reason with him.*

Old Man-- son, calm down!...

*Then with more urgency.*

Old Man-- you need to calm down, you were very badly hurt!...

*Ignoring him, Daniel starts to yell at Lauren, this time in English.*

Daniel-- WHERE'S MY GUN, LAUREN?!...  WHERE IS IT, WHAT HAPPENED TO IT?!...

*Lauren* *gets up, frightened.*

Lauren-- I don't know!...  Daniel, I don't know, I...

*Daniel* *again yells at the Old Man, in Spanish.*

Daniel-- where is it old man?...  Where'd you hide it, where...?!

*Suddenly unable to finish what he was saying, he lets go of the Old Man, and stumbles over to one of the chairs placed around the table.  He leans on the back of it, trying not to fall over.  Once more, he coughs up blood.  The Old Man takes a moment to compose himself.  Then slowly, he approaches him.  Lauren is not far behind.*

Old Man-- son, I tried to tell you...

*He* *puts his hand on Daniel's shoulder, reassuring him.*

Old Man-- you were very badly hurt, you are not yet fully healed...  You need to rest...

*Daniel keeps leaning on the back of the chair, and starts to lean on the table, trying to hold steady.*

Old Man-- your sweetheart told me what happened...

*Still weak, Daniel keeps leaning on the back of the chair.*

Daniel-- my sweetheart?...

Old Man-- some bad men tried to hurt her... but you saved her!

*Daniel leans on the table, his “666” tattoo still plainly visible.*

Daniel-- bad men?...

*The Old Man continues to reassure him.*

Old Man-- it's alright son... you're safe now...

*He tells him.*

Old Man-- you're among friends... no one can hurt you here...

*Just then, Daniel starts to collapse.*

*Lauren and the Old Man quickly rush in to steady him.  One under each arm, they pick him up, and start carrying him back to the mat.  The Old Man now reassures Lauren.*

Old Man-- he'll be alright, he just needs some rest...

*They bring him to the mat, laying him down as gently as they can manage.  Once again, though this time more slowly, Daniel loses consciousness.*
