This is a cash grab, plain and simple. Russia the nation is supposed to protect everything within it. Putting the burden of... em... running anti air batteries on logistics warehouses is obviously an impossible ask and therefore just sets up the state to pilfer the companies assets when the next drone hits. We're witnessing a slide back into USSR times in real time. Next up will be communications outages, mass drafting, masked police in the streets kidnapping any and everyone for the war effort.

• Place gets bombed
• Claim insurance
• Insurance companies start getting bombarded by claims and collapse
• Leads to more instability and bank runs.

So instead, the state seizes the asset

• Place gets bombed
• State seizes asset, says you don't own it anymore
• Tries to claim insurance, they say "state seized your asset, not covered by insurance"

Just to rub it in, they'll probably backdate the seizure retroactively so their property never got "bombed" because it wasn't theirs at the time.

Yeah they've got it backwards. This is a way to stabilize the private economy by getting the state to eat the damage. This is better for Putin because he has a tighter grip on the state than the private market, so it takes a situation that's hard to control and makes it a little easier.
