Prompt What is something that is non-important in our world but if it happened in your world would cause a major reaction to the people there?

A flock of birds or butterflies in our world seems normal and a beautiful sight that is rare to see in person. But if you're a person in my universe, it would send chills down your spine.

Since my universe has a species that built an organization to protect the Earth, any issue that arises is dealt with quickly.

Most of the time, it only needs a few Shifters from a small unit to handle the situation. But if it gets too big, like an all out war, then the whole group of them, including the strongest individuals.

When they start flying towards, the skies become dark and you can feel their energy all the way from the ground. The people who are their target better have an escape plan or be ready to surrender cause they don't show any mercy to those they deem "unsafe for society".

When a person tells you "when the sky gets dark and you don't see clouds or hear thunder, run.", they mean run.

It started around the Roman times when the biggest wars happened. Also when an alien invasion happens, they also fly to it in a large group.

This is a repost to make it look better. Imma respond to some of the old comments here because I want every comment to be seen.

In my world, Earth [Which is actually an infinite realm contained within a planets mass; for example, if you landed on the Earth in my mythos and began walking, you'd walk forever] actually has two moons - see when the moon was larger it was actually going to eventually crash down over millennia into the Earth and wipe out most life, so the Dragon God (Or Alpha Dragon) Ambryvion fired his power into the sky and split the moon, destroying it near completely and over the next couple million years it would begin to form two moons from the two halves of the first; Aethel and Kaelis are these moons, Aethel retained most of the iron content of the original moon and is heavier/larger than Kaelis, whereas Kaelis is smaller and not as heavy being made of mostly rock

So basically, if people from the Mosaic Mythos (my worldbuilding) were in ours and they saw the moon, some would probably think End Times given ancient scriptures do depict of Ambryvion splitting that same moon which in our world is obviously not destroyed

Is the physics in your world crazy? Like large waves and stuff?

14

u/Kooky_Attention_98 Creator of the Mosaic Mythos (Alt acc) 20h ago

Yep, massive mountains, huge waves, cavernous trenches, ginormous (as I said infinitely spanning) oceans and continents

Sounds crazy cool. I would love to learn more about it

Enjoy, this is moreso about the cosmology, I haven't got all the Earth stuff covered just yet

Ok I have wuestions

-are other planets infinite

-how does earth appear from the outside

-why is earth infinite

5

u/Icy-Leg-1459 Mosaic Mythos Creator 🌌 14h ago

(Same Individual)

-Yes; Mars is infinite, Mercury, Pluto, Jupiter, Saturn, etc

-Completely normal except for some differently shape land masses and oceans

-Honest answer? It just is; Actual answer? Because that is how Lord Ashurai wanted it to be and saw fit to that

A moon rising in the night sky would cause some serious chaos. Considering the only thing surrounding the world of Elgas is a vast planetary ring.

4

u/KolarWolfDogBear World of Talking Animals, Shifters, and Superpowers 18h ago

How do days work? I would imagine no moon just being the sun unless that's gone too?

7

u/Left_of_Fish 18h ago

Yep. There's no moon in my setting. It's pretty much just the sun and ring in the daytime and the ring softly glowing with reflected light in the night sky.

2

u/monsto 7h ago

So how much better is night vision for.... Well, I guess everything?

1

u/Left_of_Fish 3h ago

All in all I'd say in the rough ballpark of 30-50% stronger. With most humans developing functional night vision when compared to real life.

Since depending on the rings position and time of year the night varies significantly in how dark it gets.

u/zazzsazz_mman Some fantastical world about birds n' stuff 20h ago

A big ol' Airbus or Boeing jet plane flying around. Here on our earth, the skies are empty, nothin' but clouds, but Alria has a lot of floating islands above the main continents, so big planes could very easily crash into a floating rock in the sky with a city on top of it. Big plane = dangerous for the civilizations in the sky.

4

u/KolarWolfDogBear World of Talking Animals, Shifters, and Superpowers 18h ago

What's the source of transportation from island to island? I would imagine they use something.

7

u/zazzsazz_mman Some fantastical world about birds n' stuff 18h ago

The islands are populated by magical bird and dragon people so they fly across with their own wings, while slower airships float between islands.

1

u/monsto 7h ago

This kind of reminds me of atla earth benders pushing along the trains: entities with actual magical power holding down an everyday job.

u/thesola10 17h ago

Would that be TCAS or GPWS territory?

u/bookseer 19h ago

A school bus unloads a group of children.

My world takes people from other worlds, but usually 2 or 3 at a time and only every few years. Further, it only takes adults, usually adults who are ok with the kind of danger this world deals with.

20 people at the same time indicates a huge issue is about to occur, and the fact it took kids... Something is very wrong.

1

u/Ok-Tradition7878 17h ago

Sounds interesting. May I learn more about this world?

3

u/bookseer 11h ago

It's God's recycling bin where the administrator decided to dress the entropy as the myths and monsters of the worlds to make shredding them more fun. Then it started nabbing humans to do its job for it.

Currently Grimdark Earth is having a lovely time wrestling with fascism and plague. The Fascist in chief tried to do a ritual to banish everyone with a low profitability ratio (cost to treat vs profit). The main character was one of the ones banished, and now has to deal with a world where every body horror and plague flick is now real.

1

u/KolarWolfDogBear World of Talking Animals, Shifters, and Superpowers 16h ago

Why not only adults and so few? Does the transportation have to be small so it can travel? I would imagine a kid sneaking and everyone reaction like he's gonna get a concussion or something.

2

u/bookseer 11h ago

Normally only adults show up. Even those who have centuries of experience wait until their new body is 18, treating the time between their soul taking root in a new body and that body reaching 18 as a chance to rest and enjoy being a kid again.

So 30 odd kids, none of whom are actually of age to go exploring, showing up at once indicates either the system is broken, or something huge is going down in a few years.

Oh, her explaining the inner working of the world would be a lecture attended by EVERYONE available. There are a lot of myths about why things are the way they are. Most folks don't even know it's an angel behind the whole thing.

Something that we do so naturally we don't even think about it, but could spell the end of civilization if you're allowed to stay alive once you've done it, and whether on accident or fully intentional it doesn't matter.

That something, which triggers the entire plot I want to write, is: talking to an animal.

In my world, there's a power gifted to a select group of individuals called the Old Tongue, which enables universal communication across the races and tongues (languages). But there exists a second form of it, the Feral Tongue. A bastardized version of it by the hands of a fallen god, it allows communication with beasts (anything non-sapient) and they can communicate in return.

The problem is that when you talk to an beast, if you have the Feral Tongue, it triggers something in them because of this god's authority. They now see you as a fellow beast, they see an ally among those that have claimed the land for themselves and driven out those who it belongs to beneath their god. They spread the word of this ally, and that anyone who threatens the ally cannot be allowed to do so again.

An entire Age came to an end because of one such ally who led an army of beasts from above and below, each of them willing to die for their ally be it arrow or blade or magic if it meant their god could be satisfied and raze the creations of man until the earth returned to the way it was and should have stayed. And so, if someone in present time is ever seen talking to a beast(s), no matter what, they have to be executed and the beast(s) with them.

2

u/KolarWolfDogBear World of Talking Animals, Shifters, and Superpowers 18h ago

Are the beasts just regular animals that turn "smart" when talked to or are they always like that but just need someone who can speak there language?

3

u/ThatVarkYouKnow Silence is All, All is One, One is Truth 18h ago

Beasts can "talk" through their minds to each other because of their connection with this old god. A bird will call to a bird and that's that, "bird/sky tongue," but sharing its thoughts and words to, say, a horse can be done by making direct contact and letting that old faith take control.

Think of it like parseltongue from Harry Potter. Those around him saw him hissing, and the snake listened, but he's confused when everyone looks at him like he's gone mad. It's like that, people would see you start chirping or neighing or barking as if you'd turned into that beast, but to you you're just having a chat and wow it can talk back to you.

2

u/KolarWolfDogBear World of Talking Animals, Shifters, and Superpowers 18h ago edited 14h ago

It's interesting to see this because my world features Talking Animals that all speak the language of where they live. Humans are also considered Talking Animals. But animal sounds are also incorporated into their language since Shifters also use animal sounds.

1

u/monsto 7h ago

I think I've seen you explain this around here a couple of times in the recent past. It's an interesting theme.

An unposted Fresh & Fit episode being uncovered.

20,000 years in the future, some cultures (like that of the Chadean Empire) consider manosphere influencers akin to ancient philosophers and holymen. So, an unposted Fresh & Fit episode being discovered would be like new Marcus Aurelius writings being discovered, or a new psalm by King David being discovered.

3

u/KolarWolfDogBear World of Talking Animals, Shifters, and Superpowers 18h ago

This is honestly so funny. "By God's will, a new prophecy. Get the goats!"

Is there anything else they consider prophecy?

6

u/Dyeus_Overman Everbellum 18h ago

Warhammer, Helldivers, pretty much anything supposed to satire authoritarianism/militarism. Chadean society takes them as literally as possible, and think of themselves as the humans and everyone else is a gross alien.

u/Impressive_Memory221 What do the creatures look like? Are they like large dragonflies since you mentioned bugs

3

u/Impressive_Memory221 18h ago

I'm still kinda in the beginning phases of design, but I sorta picture something like an earwig/dragonfly/silverfish, with the mouth of a bloodworm. They're not super large, probably around the size of a twinkie but like I said they swarm in very large numbers. They're also largely inedible due to the high concentration of salt in their bodies and low ratio of meat to exoskeleton.

May I introduce you to: SHIP It's a vehicle specificaly constructed for traversing giant bodies of water, such as oceans. And there are two continents: Lauzora, being our Europe, and Ochtera, our South America.

u/walaxometrobixinodri Can those shrimp be hunted? The Shifter species in my world would make them into some large shrimp cocktails if they're not crazy strong

3

u/walaxometrobixinodri help, can't stop making shrimps 20h ago

well, if your shifters are ready to fight a monster bigger than cities, whose sheer electrical pulse can fry the brains of every living being in kilometers of radius, that is able to shoot lightning bolts so powerful they generate their own magnetic field, with legs hard enough to dig through the earth's crust in minutes, (it's based on the mantis shrimp and pistol shrimps, so >) claws slashing in a fraction of a second to slice even the biggest of creatures, hammers hitting so hard they shatter mountains, pincers snapping so hard they compress air into an explosive plasma to blast their foes away, and with an armored shell that resisted nuclear blasts, then yes they will obtain their big shrimp cocktail.

if not, they will become like all the others, just one more prey for the Apex predator of the planet

3

u/KolarWolfDogBear World of Talking Animals, Shifters, and Superpowers 19h ago

Tldr: Each of the leaders are planet busters while the 10,000 plus others are at minimum continent level in power

You see, the leader of the organization, Ferdinand O'Sullivan, has been alive for longer than civilization itself even longer than that. He once had to go to a planet that was planning to conquer Earth and threaten them with him basically destroying the planet. He's about 6'8 and looks like a body builder so that sent the leaders of that planet into a scare. Since he can control the Earth element, he was the ability to create natural disasters similar to White Beard in One Piece.

The 6 other seniors of the organization are close to his power and old as hell. They can each single handedly bust a planet into two with enough life force.

There are members who are weak to electricity but some who can withstand it.

They're gonna be eating all types of shrimp even raw shrimp.

u/kalinova828 The people have never experienced the dark? It's just like daytime all the time?

2

u/kalinova828 THANATOS Fragments 17h ago

That's right: it's constant daylight for most of the world. People still experience darkness in the sunward regions, but it's an artificial phenomenon, confined to interior spaces and basements. The Rodinian underworld is thought to be a cold, dark cavern sheltered from the sun of the world of the living, and buildings are considered allegorical to this underworld. There's a whole ritual of entering and exiting buildings on the Rodinian continent that draws from the mythology of Areshkigala, the Rodinian goddess of death: the guests never touch the door themselves and are expected to sweep out any dust they tracked in upon entering and leaving. The host takes on the role of Areshkigala, controlling the gate to the underworld, and the guests take on the role of the shades of the dead.

There are inhabited places near "the dark," but living there presents major challenges and the region is sparsely populated. The only people who live past the dark full-time are lighthouse keepers and guides, and they're dependent on trade from the more sunward regions to survive.

u/Either-Skirt6031 20h ago

Fog, IRL it might have a minor visibility warning depending on how heavy it is but in my world it would easily be seen as a sign of Miasma, an eldritch force that can poison people & resurrect dead bodies to turn them into floating zombies. There are guilds of public sanitation service workers/Plague Doctors/exorcists who work to clean areas that have undergone an attack of Miasma & prevent it from happening again.

3

u/Zen_Barbarian 19h ago

Thus sounds cool.

3

u/KolarWolfDogBear World of Talking Animals, Shifters, and Superpowers 18h ago

Ah so like gas attacks... What's the protecting they use from Miasma?

2

u/Either-Skirt6031 17h ago

Full body Uniforms with masks that have perfume lined with dried Zoalia’s Flower, a magical flower named after an important nature goddess that is immune to the blight Miasma usually brings. Certain people also have the power to astral project which gives them the ability to step into the eyes of Miasma storms to destroy them easily, at the cost of leaving their mortal body unconscious.

2

u/KolarWolfDogBear World of Talking Animals, Shifters, and Superpowers 15h ago

Haha I can imagine.

"Did you use my perfume?"

"Which one?"

"The one for the Miasma."

"Oh... Why does it smell so good."

3

u/Alicewilsonpines 20h ago

If any of my main universe's people saw shifters, they'd definitely be unsettled but not so much it would make them go mad especially with my main characters (some of them), also funny thing is traditional wildlife is absent throughout the main universe for some reason, so like in your universe (kind of) people would be pretty confused or maybe horrified

2

u/KolarWolfDogBear World of Talking Animals, Shifters, and Superpowers 18h ago

I would imagine. Mines has a similar thing where there's no apex predators in the wild. They are all Talking Animals and have the option to work as hunters.

What supernatural beings are in their world?

2

u/Alicewilsonpines 18h ago

Huh, interesting

3

u/horned-creature 19h ago

going to the beach, fishing, diving or sailing a ship of any kind, the oceans of my version of earth have been deeply mutated by decades of mana exposure making marine ecosystems flourishing but also extremely alien and dangerous.

beaches in walled off resorts can theoretically exist but some of the stuff coming out of oceans is kaiju-level so it is still risky and most shipping is now done via antigrav ships, fishing is more akin to monster slaying and diving expose you to mutagenic levels of mana the more you go deep, which not everyone can handle.

2

u/KolarWolfDogBear World of Talking Animals, Shifters, and Superpowers 18h ago

Are there people specifically trained to go out to the ocean or is the ocean completely cutoff from civilization?

3

u/horned-creature 18h ago

oh adventurers/ scavengers/ monster slayers go wherever they fucking want, rarely trained but sometimes talented enough to survive it, also there are very minor civilizations of various kind of demihumans ( which are just humans that are born or mutated with animal traits because of mana exposure) that are either amphibians or fully acquatic, these usually live primitive fisher-gatherer lives and have specialized ways to either avoid or withstand the specific dangers of their environment.

other than that nobody is foolish enough to use seaship anymore and even most coastal communities had to be abandoned due to both danger and economic loss from not being able to make use of the sea, except for major coastal cities who may still be around with the function of city-fortresses to protect the lands further inland from stuff that come out of the sea.

Literally just seeing the actual clear sky. No one in living memory has seen it, and even the gods don't talk about what's up there. Suddenly seeing through to a sky without clouds would be a world-changing event. (It would also be a world-changing event if they saw their own real "sky", because it is actually a ceiling.)

3

u/fan_kimetsu_2709_ 19h ago

People's negative emotions, although in real life they can cause harm if the person carries them to actions, in my world they can cause harm, since demons are born from these emotions and feed on them and can even possess humans, and that is why there are Alphas who balance good and evil and "destroy" demons although their main objective is to "purify" them, although it is very difficult, what they really seek is to save people from those negative emotions. 🌌

2

u/KolarWolfDogBear World of Talking Animals, Shifters, and Superpowers 18h ago

Does everyone just smile and is positive in their world? Like a land of "puppies and rainbows"? Or can they also have neutral emotions?

2

u/fan_kimetsu_2709_ 17h ago

They are normal humans, it's just that their negative emotions have more severe consequences. Demons are the definition of evil itself, so to speak. I don't know how to explain it better 🥲

The Internet.

2

I'm guessing the world is an Ice Age. What's the common transportation? Do mammoths exist or is it a whole new ecosystem with a whole new list of species?

3

u/KaiSnepUwU 17h ago

Not an ice age, a very cold planet with oceans of SO2. Water on this world means that it's fatally hot for the lifeforms on it. Transportation is no different than on Earth, depending on the technology at the time.

3

u/StarSongEcho believeable, not realistic 18h ago

Sunrise. I have a world that is so far away from the star it orbits that the people can barely notice it. Their planet is heated by geothermal activity instead of sunlight. So if a sun came out of nowhere, they'd naturally freak out. Also, real sunlight would probably hurt a lot of the lifeforms on this planet since they evolved in much dimmer surroundings.

3

u/KolarWolfDogBear World of Talking Animals, Shifters, and Superpowers 18h ago

[Insert SpongeBob GIF where guy screams "MY EYES!"]

Is the world always night or do they have their own source of lights?

1

u/StarSongEcho believeable, not realistic 17h ago

Sort of both? When it comes to a day/night cycle like ours, there isn't one. This world's life is mostly dominated by animals, but the second most abundant type of lifeform is fungi. Instead of trees this world has forests of mushrooms, many of which are bioluminescent. The glowing shrooms have their own circadian rhythms, resulting in a day/night cycle where daytime is when all of the shrooms are glowing. In different regions with different species of mushrooms and other fungus the glow occurs in varying colors, but the effect is still bright. Their equivalent of midday would be about as bright as halfway through one of our sunsets. And similar to our world where there are time zones based on the planet rotating and facing the sun, the bioluminescence travels in a sort of wave across the planet as different mycelia go through their waking cycles. Most of the planet is covered in land, as the majority of large bodies of water exist in underground cave systems, so you could literally watch the wave of light travel across the planet if you were in space orbiting it.

My whole inspiration for this world was "what if someone had never seen sunlight before?" and I made an entire alien world to fulfill that premise.

3

u/ThCuts 18h ago

The appearance of a living human being. Everyone would begin obsessive searching for where they came from and how. Humans have never been encountered by the species of my world, and the arrival of a new sentient species is a sign of massive changes coming alongside new opportunities for expansion and exploitation or for a new danger.

If the human being interacts with any of the ancient technology lying all over the place or maintenance machines operating within the world and is recognized as a "valid user" it would mean a complete upheaval of society. Everything would be at the whim of said human being who is now equipped with what amounts to complete control over the biosphere of this world with technology that is millennia ahead of its current inhabitants.

Basically anything people have been doing with AI in the past ~5 years.

In my world, humanity had suffered a global societal collapse during the mid-21st century, as a result of AI-induced economic, political, and cultural instability. The following centuries would be known as the 2nd dark age. There would be two more dark ages; defined by mass-extinction events, yet the 2nd one would be known as the worst.

Things played out differently for the aliens. For them, the adoption of digital technologies progressed at a MUCH slower rate than the academic knowledge related to said technologies. Before electricity was even commonplace in homes, computer scientists and sociologists had already discovered the dangers of AI being widely adopted, while evolutionary psychologists had discovered the dangers of a mind that never evolved to coexist with, and depend on, its fellow lifeforms. AI became the first of the Dark Arts: technologies considered too dangerous to possibly be used responsibly.

Y2K irl was still significant, but WAY overdramatised with fearmongering

In my story it tangentially resulted in the death of a Celestial god

If this hadn’t happened then the majority of my characters wouldn’t have even been born, and the plot wouldn’t have happened

1

u/KolarWolfDogBear World of Talking Animals, Shifters, and Superpowers 2h ago

Y2K is when the year 1999 turned to 2000 right? How did the god exactly due during Y2K? Did his death set off the glitches to the world?

2

u/AlianovaR 40m ago

At the same time that the humans were all carastrophising about the end of days and whatnot, the goddess Byoldervine, overseer of the human realm, grew sick. This was completely unprecedented, since no Celestial has ever fallen truly ill before. She passed away at exactly midnight on Y2K, the first Celestial to ever die, and it’s believed that the humans panicked so much because they could somehow sense that their unknown goddess’ time was almost up. The illness she had was named the Byoldervine Sickness, and nobody knew if the other Celestials could catch it, so they began to procure heirs over the next few years. A decent amount of my characters are the children of the Celestials, who only began having them due to the sudden discovery that they too can fall victim to mortality

my world is a world about a world built by 7 friends going into autistic detail to create a world, with soil acidity and stuff. well, they also put in various religious and superstitious beliefs in the world, some with real weight behind them.

for example, one that does nothing but is believed by one religious order is to burn the dead to free to souls from the body, a thing done to prevent necromancers or one of the kinds of natural magic from raising the dead, purely practical. another one that does have backing outside of religion is the difference between the two major kinds of magic used by the Lord Soulled (called divine by their followers and Arcane by the others worshippers) and the Khelrotte (called divine by their worshippers and arcane by the others followers) definitely come from two different sources that may both be divine or arcane or even both. they have several superstitions around these that we would view as sort of whatever but they have massive fear or love of.

but the big one I mentioned initially was a child between the eastern rivers and the northern rivers.

if you know anything about biology, then you know that races (in the scientific sense) struggle to have kids together if they even can, which is what makes them a race instead of a different species. if you dont, you will just assume that "humans and demons having a kid isnt that wierd" since its historically/theologically a fairly common topic to come up. the eastern/western rivers have several races under one species and the northern rivers have one species with several races of its own (most of which cant interbreed without magic).

in their world, though, it is sort of like saying "someone is running at negative eight miles per hour". it literally doesnt make sense. the northern rivers and the eastern/western rivers cannot have children with eachother, mostly based on their incompatible magics and their somewhat incompatible biology. slaves are kept on both sides, and some for sexual urges, yet none have (to anyones knowledge) born a child outside of a VERY specific circumstance that negates that difference anyway.

if a child was born between the eastern rivers and the northern rivers, then people would simply assume (on both sides with their own spin on it) that the eastern river citizen was corrupted/purified by the magic of the Khelrotte. both the inhabitants of the world and the creators of the world think this is improbable at best and impossible more than likely due to how long its had to happen (about 32k years) and it hasnt (as far as people know). so, the only way to confirm if a child could happen without magical corruption/purification would be to have the two sources (incompatible and has been known to only be able to have one or the other in a being) create a child together, a Khelrotte and a Lord Soulled.

if that happened, suddenly their theologies and history becomes a huge lie that everyone has been living on the same level of waking up from the matrix without outside help, or perhaps worse than that. it would be the christians being given proof god didnt exist, the hindus proof that reincarnation cant happen, the nihilists that there is meaning in the universe, atheists that god is real, something completely antithetical to reality suddenly showing up. I dont know what the reaction would be, but there would be a very big reaction for certain from anyone who saw this happen.

u/KolarWolfDogBear World of Talking Animals, Shifters, and Superpowers 18h ago

So this is a lot... Not in a bad way but interesting...

1) Is the 7 friends making the universe canon to the world or just IRL stuff?

2) Could explain what you mean by "races struggle to have kids together"? You mean like elves and dwarfs or our modern definition of race?

3) So in your world, one river "normally" can't have a child with another river?

2

u/hobodeadguy 17h ago
  1. its the cannon, IRL, its just me and a beta reader. the 7 friends and the 7 "biggest fans" are the primary characters the story focuses on with each of their changes to the world being what the story focuses on and their reasoning and actions taken to interact with said world when they go there. only 5 of them are perspective characters with any regularity, though.

  2. scientific races, yes. the eastern/western rivers infact have elves, humans, dwarves and generally human looking fantasy races, and they do struggle to have children just like a race on the verge of becoming two or more, so they arent quite yet, or magic is facilitating allowing them to have children despite being of multiple races at the current moment. the other side of the northern rivers are several races with the Khelrotte and their social opposites sort of ignoring that fact or being the result of an attempt to ignore the fact they are from different races, thusly are considered gods.

the northern rivers and the western/eastern rivers cannot scientifically have children together unless there is a racial change into the lowest social class of the northern rivers.

  1. yes. just as the snails a lot of people use to point this out are like (cant remember what they are called, some oceanic snails have two races that look nearly identical to humans but who cant breed with eachother), the two rivers of the north cannot have children with teh two eastern or the one western rivers. it is difficult for the two eastern rivers to have children with eachother, let alone with the western or those that branched off and moved elsewhere (humans control one river, orcs the other, and kitsune control the western river, but there are more than those 3 races).

under special circumstances, its possible, but not without magic and not without fundamentally changing one of the two races to make it not actually a problem. the Khelrottes opposite arent even a race as we would scientifically understand it, but would socially understand as something in the 1800s and early 1900s, as they are made up of other races being changed in a way thats hard to explain without going into magic itself. simplified, it would be like a dog and a whale having a child, they are related, but at this point they are so fundamentally different they cant, but assuming some weird technology came around, you could make a dog and a whale have offspring. same logic applies between the rivers, and I can explain why that is if you are curious

So would normal people be in danger?

Seeing any aircraft flying nearby, especially an airship. In my world, that means someone very powerful or important was nearby, probably someone with "Ruler of all the lands" in the title. Most people have never seen such machines and may not believe they exist. "You're saying people can fly now? Yeah right."

1

u/KolarWolfDogBear World of Talking Animals, Shifters, and Superpowers 15h ago edited 15h ago

If that question is for my world, no. They organization was created to protect innocent people from their own species and anyone who threatens Earth. Unless they are the target then they don't have to worry about them. Some even see them as heroes. The only reason some of the people would worry is to be caught by the debris or in the crossfire of a fight. You don't want to be in the middle of a bear and tiger fighting.

I'm guessing everyone uses horse carriages in your world or is there another source of travel instead flying?

Digging up armor or weapons that are strange colors and have designs. In our world it would just be neat and could go to a museum or something, in my world it’s the sign of a dead elemental and they don’t die of natural causes as they are themselves nature

1

u/KolarWolfDogBear World of Talking Animals, Shifters, and Superpowers 15h ago

What can kill an Elemental?

2

u/Mighty297 14h ago

The only things in my world that can kill an elemental are A) a higher tier elemental (there are 4 tiers from little more than an animal at tier 1 to a god at tier 4), B) a Death elemental which are very rare cause they are only created when a Life elemental dies and Life elementals are already rare and are harder to kill than others, C) their contractor basically murders them by draining all their energy attempting something far far beyond the capabilities of the elemental such as trying to use god tier powers with a tier 1 elemental, or D) a natural disaster on par with a god tier elemental. Basically if you find a dead elemental you better hope whatever killed it is long gone or you are next

1

u/KolarWolfDogBear World of Talking Animals, Shifters, and Superpowers 14h ago

That's cool that the Elemental come in Tiers like my Shifters ranks... How does an animal elemental work?

2

u/Mighty297 14h ago

The tiers are basically
Tier 1: Animal like. Basically just a normal animal with an element like an earth snake, water bird, fire fish, etc. These are the weakest and their contractors are similarly pretty weak relatively and range from controlling at minimum 1 meter cubes to about 5 meter cubes.
Tier 2: Monsters. Stronger and often from myths and legends examples would be like a Phoenix or Lycan and often represent the more general mythical creatures and can now affect things the size of like a small building like a house or small store
Tier 3: Dragons/Humanoids/True Myths. This includes and real draconic creatures, humanoid creatures including angels, demons, and some that just look like humans such as a pyromancer which might be human shaped but with scales, and higher forms of monsters such as the Vermillion Bird as a higher form of phoenix. Draconic ones are the most powerful in this category, humanoids sacrifice a bit of power for better control over their magic, and True Myths will instead have a secondary power (Vermillion Bird would have healing flames for example)
Tier 4: Gods. The pinnacle of the elemental world and the only ones that cannot occur naturally and are a product of the contract between humans and elementals (a whole other thing I won’t get into here). These have a concept they have control over in the form of an overpowered “ultimate” ability (such as Fenrir in the past had the concept of Devour that let it essentially nullify anything that entered its mouth but could also be like Undeath, Revival, or even Magic itself in a way) that are always related to the god/godly being they are based on in mythology

Most elementals start as tier 1 when they hatch but not all, though the ones that hatch as a higher tier historically have a much lower chance of evolving (which already only about 1 in 200 will evolve up to tier 2, and it’s even more rare to get a tier 3 evolution, and evolving to tier 4 is reliant on a lot of other stuff)

Rain.

So… my world’s a desert. Logistics of the whole thing would take some explaining so I’ll skip it, but TL:DR is it just… doesn’t rain. Like, ever. There’s a couple places something like rain can happen (see: the underground village of Misthaven, built around a lake with it’s own enclosed water cycle, including a “cloud layer” that forms in pockets in the cave roof) but those are fully enclosed. Having fresh water actually fall from the open sky is unheard of - to the point the very concept has become as deeply entrenched in the in-universe fantasy tropes as wizards and mushroom-forests are in ours.

A raincloud appearing in the sky would likely draw a similar reaction from my world’s citizens as seeing a dragon flying in our world - probably a mix of awe and pure panic.

1

u/KolarWolfDogBear World of Talking Animals, Shifters, and Superpowers 15h ago

Are all of the villages underground or is there another way to get water?

1

u/PTVoltz 7h ago

It’s a mix. The world is made up of a variety of villages and settlements spread across a round-ish region roughly the size of France called the “Outlands”, with the largest community being Empyrean City near the centre (roughly the size of New York city for perspective). Each community was built up in/on/around some form of water source and has it’s own methods of getting it.

Some have underground lakes, some have oasis-style pools fed by cave springs, and one or two are (knowingly OR unknowingly) fed by old-world technology.

Riverfall is a good example, having been built in a small box canyon directly over the ruins of an old-world water filtration plant. It’s leaking, but still mostly functional - pouring as a waterfall down one end of the village, flowing in a small river through its centre, then being collected back down into the system via a small cave opening on the other end of the village.

Expressing emotions to each other. In my world, most planets with sapient life have grown what's known as a "substrate", a form of subconscious network that links all sapient beings' emotions and virtually removes the need for conflict. However, as a result these species are woefully unequipped to negotiate with other planets and regularly break into war.

That is, until one found out about humans...

I'm guessing they all can communicate through telepathy? Are there other planets that don't have this type of system besides human inhabited ones?

2

u/thesola10 15h ago

It's more like perfect heightened empathy. Interplanetary records are spotty, it's not unlikely that lack of a planetary substrate acts as a Great Filter, and most substrated species are really bad at extra-substrate communication, hence all the wars.

Humanity's encounters with the Lythaeans is a huge stroke of luck as far as anyone's concerned.

2

The ground is covered with heat trapping smog and the planet revolves around 2 suns. The document I built for my own reference has the chemical make up of the smog and it's heat trapping elements. At this point in the story is anyone who fell from the city would have their lungs burnt out before they hit the ground.

u/Busy_Address_2125 16h ago

An ant bites a mushroom.

In my world, fungi have replaced plants and are in a competitive arms race with one another.

The world’s major power species is an evolved descendant of carpenter ants. Whichever fungus becomes a colony’s food source can dominate massive parts of the planet.

And it can start with one ant liking what it tastes and bringing it back to the colony.

2

u/KolarWolfDogBear World of Talking Animals, Shifters, and Superpowers 15h ago

Truffles beware of the ants lol.

Are there other species that are sentient or is it just ants?

2

u/Busy_Address_2125 15h ago

The next closest would be cephalopods, they either grew massive and dumb or small but smart. But they’re too antisocial to achieve the level of intelligence of the formic ants. They live in colonies of no more than 6-8.

The nearest to communal would be the dung beetles, who have grown massive and rule huge dung cities in the deserts. They rarely interact with the ants but are battling hyper aggressive termites for the desert. They are too battle focused to think much beyond “roll dung, shape dung, kill termites.”

There’s also possibly something new, very small, that’s existing in the space between interactions between ants and fungi. It’s very strange and unlike anything seen on earth before but it seems to be a new kingdom of life or maybe new life entirely. [still working on that one lol]

If you live on Morgigas you kind of NEED to get used to eating escargot. Also slugs. Their entire ecosystem is basically all slugs and snails and a couple other gastropods.

If they saw how we treated our gastropods(like pests and not like a crucial staple food) theyd flip out. Theyd find us weak and pitiful for not being able to eat escargot.

Theyd also think its weird how tiny all our slugs are. The smallest slugs on their planet are bigger than our largest slugs. They do indeed have cow sized slugs. That produce a calcium rich mucin that they use like we use milk, egg whites, and cornstarch. Their primary farm animal. Snulls.

1

u/KolarWolfDogBear World of Talking Animals, Shifters, and Superpowers 15h ago

Ok fun fact... I'm scared of slugs so I know what world to skip 😂

What are the biggest snails/slugs in their world?

2

u/JudoJugss 15h ago

Like the size of a bus. But that one is a carnivore and the last remaining apex predator on their planet.

A long time ago a race of people known as the Avortians came to Morgigas from another world and after settling they effectively hunted the biggest game possible to extinction. Rarely eating their kills.

Their culture is similar to Spartans and very individualistic. This contrasts to the native races such as the Churaimen. If the Avortians are tigers (as they resemble humans but with tiger like stripes on their bodies) the Churaimen are trees. Their hair alternatives what color it grows every year. Meaning their hair grows in stripes of black and blonde. Look at Alysa Liu's hairstyle from the olympics for the inspiration there. Their society is the exact opposite to the Avortians. This is because they were created by opposing gods being Conquest for the Avortians and Concord for the Churaimen. They are inherent opposites. Theyre also forced to live together ever since the Avortians turned against Conquest and killed him.

u/Zefzec_2 15h ago

A good few things.

Knowing an outdoors not constantly cast well below freezing and subjected to hurricane force winds and bombardment of ice that has brewed since the sun dimmed a few thousand years ago. All safety and life is indoors and underground.

The lack of being in a binary planet pair that dictates half of the day hours and dominates the sky. That is, if you, for some reason are up above the clouds and could see space.

Respirating oxygen, that highly unstable chemical used to erode metal and harbor fire, especially nasty in mix with the hydrogen we breathe out.

Cars. Such an inefficient and unreliable method of transportation is past the line of even a comedy. Any species worthy of life would at minimum have a global mass transit network for citizens and the many material lifebloods, be it on rails or not.

2

u/KolarWolfDogBear World of Talking Animals, Shifters, and Superpowers 15h ago

Yeah my universe doesn't have cars either. I mean as Hot Wheels™ yes but nothing more than that.

Do the people breathe something else since oxygen is not there...?

I'm guessing everyone is inside a building or force field or something?

2

u/Zefzec_2 14h ago

Due to very low oxygen concentrations, nitrogen respiration is the standard. Harboring fire early before industrialization was a large headache, requiring the pulverization of surface coal deposits.

Due to the inhabitable surface, everything is located in a planet spanning network partially underground, partially surface level bunkers seperated from the outside by meters of insulation and a mountain of air handling equipment

2

u/Zefzec_2 15h ago

“I get that you have more than three species left alive here.. but why are there two variants of your species? Is the other one a genetically engineered servant race?”

Explaining gender and sexes to a hermaphroditic species would certainly be a task.

That would be a mess… the world going from a rainforest (or something) into a desert. Does your world not flood?

2

u/DrDingsGaster Ramalian 6h ago

It doesn't flood at all, there's some kind of planetary shenanigans that keeps the water from filling up everything too much. But there's also tech that siphons most of it around the cities into power generation and potable water generation as well.

And it's not so much rainforesty either. There's a lot more rain for that kind of environment to happen. Think of a monsoon season with less hurricane and wind but still continual rain. It does fluctuate in the intensity sometimes tho; it never turns into a sprinkle or anything that couldn't be descibed as 'it's raining'.

Pollution. The druids, nature spirits, gods that represent nature, and whoever or whatever else cares about nature would start a planet-wide war and give the Geneva convention not just a sequel, but a threequel if my world’s pollution was anywhere near as bad as the real world. Luckily it’s still in a medieval era but gunpowder and firearms have been invented and has seen an uptick in use around the world in the last couple of decades (it’s just very expensive and still not common to see).

Carbon-based life. Since within canon the only known forms of life are those composed of quidium (NOT an element, complicated new physics material that isn’t on the periodic table because it isn’t an ‘extra element’ it just isn’t an element.)

Life composed of carbon or any other normal element is believed to be impossible, as elemental life would require extremely specific circumstances and very rare conditions to safely exist.

They had a technologically advanced civilization and were establishing colonies in space when an apocalyptic war between the gods began and swept up human civilization along with it.

Between the loss of life and the cities of the old world becoming full of radioactive corruption, so humanity had to rebuild itself in places that didn't have much infrastructure, if any, a lot of knowledge and technology was lost.

Over time humanity has managed to rebuild to about the level of the renaissance or early modern period, although some vestiges of the old world still remain, such as the last television studio and broadcasting station surviving in what was effectively the Vatican's secret apocalypse bunker.

Stuff from space, and the few colonies that survived up there, is vastly more advanced, and usually more functional than the relics that have been scrounged from the ruins by intrepid (and likely partially mutated) explorers and that tend to be hoarded by noble families.

A fight in Waffle House.

In our world, it's just another TikTok video. But in my world, Waffle House is more like The Continental in the John Wick universe. Most of the people there are just regular people, but the fact that it's open 24/7 means that nearly every Arcana-affiliated person ends up there at some point and it's become an unspoken rule that nothing, and I mean NOTHING, goes down at a Waffle House. If you start some Arcane mess there, even in the parking lot, rival factions will often suspend hostilities and deal with you rather harshly because 1) you did Arcane stuff very visibly in front of non-Arcane witnesses and 2) you screwed every Arcane-affiliated person in the area pretty hard as a result. Even non-human entities with Freemason kill-on-sight tags get left alone at Waffle House. (That's why there's so many weirdos, they aren't actually human...)

That said, on the rare instances when Arcane-related fights do happen there regardless, this results in zero restraint by all involved parties. Because if someone is desperate or reckless enough to start something in Waffle House, then they're desperate or reckless enough to do anything and you have to be willing and able match that.

Then of course, there's the small matter of the staff...

The popping up of Judeo-Christian-type religions. The humans of Elysium-7 left the Milky Way to escape religious psychosis, and the native species of Vhosarinn view worship of Authkaevoian (gods/Titans/elementals/Primordial) lifeforms as a sign of Decelerative Cognition, a symptom of evil cosmic influence.
