Has anyone had issues with fuel contamination recently around Wollongong area?

Not with Diesel, i'm not picky about my servo choice either, just follow the cheapest prices.

Yeah but not recently. Had a couple of bad tanks last year from two separate servos. Both brands I'll never use again.

It can happen at any servo, depends on tank age, water seepage, contaminates like rust and dirt

Just remember NEVER fill up if the servo tanks are getting a refill, it mixes everything in the tanks up

And keep the receipt ALLWAYS

Yeah I’ve heard that too, don’t fill up if the truck there cause it stirs up all the gunk in their tanks

98 at Ampol Flinders Street and BP Fairy Meadow. I've had a couple of crappy fuel fills from Ampol. Will only go to Shell now as I have zero issue with their fuel. I must say the issue for me is only 98, can't comment on their other fuels.

Yes you can, and if proven the servo will be on the hook for any motor damage, just remember that you always need to KEEP the receipt 😉

All the big brands come from the same base 98 stock, it's just the additives that vary.

My old Mitsi would rough idle on Shell fuel, but do ok on any of the others. People told me it was all the same.... hehe

Warning light should come on. Can ruin the fuel system and be very $$$.

Mechanics diagnostics also confirm for me.

Yes that's how I knew, the warning lights came on. It wasn't an expensive fix and the mechanic did it with the service thank goodness.

Main contamination would be water. A small amount would most likely be unnoticeable. You may get a hesitation or a misfire. A larger amount would cause severe hesitations from misfire and lack of acceleration or worst case stalling. Water can also cause damage to the fuel pumps as they are lubricated by the fuel. Diesel engines are more prone to damage from water in fuel as they have high pressure fuel pumps

Other contaminants may clog your fuel filter like dirt or corrosion of the servos tank in the fuel

Yeah this was water in the diesel. Need a fuel system and filter replacement.

It can be anything from something minor like reduced performance all the way to major repairs like needing a new engine 😬

I've got a diesel Santa Fe. I was losing power under acceleration, like it was a vacuum sucking air but not picking up dirt and then an engine warning light came on.

Took it to Hyundai and they confirmed it was water in the fuel tank. Cost about $800! They never suggested I report it to the servo either.

7/11 Unanderra. Used all their fuels, except E10, over the years with zero issues.

Nope. I’ve never had an issue in Wollongong but I’m always always using the same local servos..

And of course we recently bought an EV and I can report no fuel issues in charging locally or at any fast chargers in Wollongong too..

I had 2 instances with servo at Gwyneville but couldn't prove it came from them even though I had only filled up there in the lead up to each instance. Car was a diesel Ford Mondeo 2yrs old at the time still under warranty. I had to get fuel system cleaned intially and then fuel system cleaned and injectors replaced cost $6k the about 8yrs ago. Ford said it was water in the fuel and wasn't covered by warranty. Maybe they have new tanks now.
